Hello everyone! I'm really pleased, because since the official boards shut down, I've missed writing Emmerdale fan fiction! Thankfully I've discovered these boards so I can create a new story! I'll update the story as often as I can, it will involve the following main characters... Charity Tom Matthew Jimmy Sadie CainObviously as the story expands, so will the character base OK, so here goes! I'd love to see feedback on how you think the story is going so far, in particular anything you liked, and anything that could be improved! For King And Country - Part 1Charity sits at her desk in Tom's office. Tom sits at his desk to the side of her, watching Charity intently as she types. TOM: You know, you look so beautiful today. Charity grins and shifts her gaze in Tom's direction, pretending to be embarrassed by his comment. CHARITY: Flattery will get you... everywhere. TOM: Oh yes? Well I might just remember that, the next time I want to compliment you. CHARITY (laughs): Well don't stop now! TOM: I don't know what I've done to deserve you. Tom gazes at Charity who smiles back at him. After a moment, Charity stands up and makes her way over to Tom's desk. She sits on his knee and puts one arm around his shoulder. CHARITY: And I don't know what I've done to deserve you. Charity leans in and kisses Tom tenderly. Suddenly the office door jolts open and the two break apart abruptly. Matthew stands in the doorway. MATTHEW: Oh sorry, is this a... CHARITY: Bad moment? Yeah kinda! Charity gives Matthew an exasperated look that hints he should leave the room. Matthew turns to exit but Tom calls him back. TOM: Ah Matthew! Did you want something? MATTHEW: It was nothing, just a message from Sadie. TOM: Well what message? Charity rolls her eyes and appears annoyed as Tom shifts her off his knee and walks over to Matthew at the door. MATTHEW: She just asked me to tell you that she's got an important announcement at 4'o'clock, and she wants you to be there. TOM: And where is this announcement? MATTHEW: Well, it's here. In the back garden apparently, Jimmy's putting on a barbeque. Tom appears puzzled as Charity fiddles with a pen impatiently. TOM: This all seems a bit spontaneous, have you any idea what Sadie's announcing? MATTHEW: No idea Dad! She just said to be there! TOM: Right... well if that's what Sadie wants, I will! Matthew leaves the room and closes the door behind him. Tom turns to Charity who's standing awkwardly by his desk. TOM: Sorry about that, you know this house, you can't get a minute's peace! CHARITY: Oh don't worry about it, I'm sure there'll be plenty more moments. TOM: I hope so. CHARITY: I suppose I'm banished from this announcement of Sadie's am I? It's just Matthew didn't seem to even acknowledge my existence! TOM: Of course not! I'll take you as my guest! Anyway, it'll hardly be anything interesting, she's probably bought a new dress she wants to show off! CHARITY: Yeah... well, I'd better get changed into something a bit more suitable then hadn't I?! TOM: Do you need a lift home? We can go now if you like, seeing as you've finished everything early. CHARITY: OK, it's a deal! Charity grabs her handbag and heads out of the office door. She takes her jacket off the hook, as does Tom, and they both exit the house and get into Tom's car, driving off towards Pear Tree Cottage. Part 2 coming soon!

Part 2
Jimmy stands over a big smoky barbeque, cooking some sausages and beefburgers as Sadie arranges the chairs and table for the family dinner. Matthew comes through the back door of the house and walks towards Sadie.
MATTHEW: Bad news, Karl can't make it. SADIE: What?! Oh no... but I specifically said everyone had to be here! JIMMY: What's his excuse this time? MATTHEW: Coleen's letting him have the afternoon with the kids while she visits her mum, so he's gone over for the day. SADIE: Any other time he wants nothing to do with them! I don't see why he couldn't bring the children here. JIMMY: I'm sure he wouldn't be interested in what you've got to say anyway! SADIE: Oh yes? We'll see about that!
Sadie smiles secretly to herself as Jimmy and Matthew resume to the barbeque. Meanwhile, Tom and Charity are entering Pear Tree Cottage. Charity flings her belongings on the sofa and heads towards the stairs.
CHARITY: Right, give me five minutes and I'll be with you! TOM: Charity wait!
Charity turns round and looks at Tom expectantly.
TOM: Why don't I come up with you and... help you choose your dress? CHARITY: OK!
The pair head up the stairs together and enter Charity's bedroom that she shares with her cousin Chastity.
TOM: Well, this is cosy! CHARITY: It's not ideal, but we have a laugh.
Tom eyes up the room as Charity begins to undress, removing her shirt button by button. Tom's gaze fixes on Charity and she hesitates removing her shirt.
TOM: Don't stop on my account, or shall I wait outside? CHARITY: No! It's fine... I just suddenly feel nervous around you. TOM: Oh... CHARITY: Don't worry, it's not your fault! It's me... I haven't felt like this for a while, kinda like a teenager on her first date! TOM: I know what you mean! This brings me right back to my youth. Stolen moments here and there, it's quite exciting! Until we're interrupted. CHARITY: Well, there's nobody here now is there? TOM: No... but what if somebody comes back?
Charity removes her shirt and stands directly in front of Tom wearing a red laced bra. She caresses his face and kisses him.
CHARITY: Who cares anymore?
Tom smiles and they kiss again. In the meantime, Jimmy and Matthew sit drinking beer at the table outside, looking bored, while Sadie paces up and down the patio looking at her watch and tutting.
SADIE: Did you tell your father 4'o'clock exactly?! MATTHEW: Yes! I made sure he understood. SADIE: Well then where is he? He was only meant to be running that floozy home! JIMMY: Maybe she's poisoning his tea just as we speak. SADIE: Jimmy! Don't be so blasé about it! I've seen her type before, and believe me she's danger. JIMMY: I don't know why you let her wind you up! Dad's no fool, he'll soon figure out she's a weasel and she'll be out on her ear! SADIE: I wouldn't be so sure... I think your father's becoming quite foolish in his age. MATTHEW: Charming. SADIE: Well it's true! It seems like I'm the only one who's concerned enough to try and get rid of that cheap bit of skirt! Have you tried his mobile? JIMMY: Switched off. SADIE: Typical! Where is he?!
Sadie storms inside the house, as Jimmy and Matthew divert their attention back to their beers. Back at Pear Tree Cottage, Tom and Charity are lying in Charity's bed facing each other.
TOM: I can't believe how carried away I got! CHARITY: Oh come off it, I hardly took any persuading! TOM: You know what, you've made me feel the best I've felt since... well, let's just say you make me feel on top of the world. CHARITY: Good, cause since I've met you it finally feels like my life's getting back on track!
Tom and Charity share a lingering kiss and suddenly the bedroom door is flung open.
To be continued in Part 3!

Part 3
Chastity stands in the doorway, the shock of finding Tom and Charity in bed is apparent by her face.
CHASTITY: Not disturbing anything am I?! CHARITY: Chas! CHASTITY: Sorry... just wanted to get me purse! TOM: I should be going.
Tom starts to climb out of the bed, but Charity pulls him back.
CHARITY: No, wait! Tom, don't go. Chas was just about to leave right?!
Charity gives Chas a look that suggests she should quickly leave. Chastity quickly opens a drawer and looks for her purse.
TOM: No really, I have to go, Sadie's expecting me remember! CHARITY: Well what about me? Thought I was invited? TOM: You are! Look, it's up to you, but if you want to come, we go now.
Tom clambers out of bed and starts to get dressed as Charity goes after Chas who has just got to the bottom of the stairs.
CHARITY: Great timing! CHASTITY: Well I wasn't to know! Anyway, what you doing bringing him back here?! Hardly the most private of places! That room's just as much as mine as it is yours remember! CHARITY: Alright alright... it's just that we were getting on so well, I feel like I'm finally getting somewhere! Just hope you walking in hasn't frightened him off! CHASTITY: Look, are you sure you know what you're doing? CHARITY: Don't worry about me, I can look after myself! CHASTITY: So come on then... what's he like? CHARITY: None of your business!
Charity and Chas grin as Tom comes down the stairs.
TOM: Right, I'm off, are you coming? CHARITY: Yep, two ticks!
Charity runs back upstairs leaving Tom and Chas alone in the living room.
CHAS: So... where's your Karl today? TOM: At home with his kids, where he should be more often.
Tom gives Chas a knowing look.
CHAS: Well, he's a grown man now, I'm sure he can make up his own mind about where he spends his time! TOM: Pity he's not a bit more choosy about it then really. CHAS: And what's that supposed to mean?! TOM: Look, Karl's got a perfectly good wife and two children. They're his family, he shouldn't be ruining his life with the likes of you! CHAS: Oh yeah! Well what makes me and Charity so different? People are probably saying the same about you two! And if Karl is so happy with his wife and kids, then why did he practically beg me to go out with him? You need to get your facts straight and look a bit closer to home, alright!?
Chas storms out of the cottage, leaving Tom dumbfounded. Charity comes back downstairs, ready to go back to the Kings.
CHARITY: What was that all about? TOM: Nothing, come on, we're late as it is.
Charity shrugs and follows Tom out of the door, who now seems to be in a foul mood.
To be continued!

Part 4
Sadie, Jimmy and Matthew are all sitting at the table in the back garden of the King's home. The barbeque is now smouldering and the three of them are quietly sipping on drinks.
SADIE: This is ridiculous. Your father had better have a valid excuse for this! JIMMY: What time is it? MATTHEW: Quarter to five. JIMMY: Well he's only 45 minutes late! SADIE: It's not good enough Jimmy! When I say 4'o'clock, I mean 4'o'clock!
Sadie knocks back another glass of wine. A car is heard pulling up outside and screeching to a halt on the gravel outside.
SADIE: At last!
Sadie jumps up and walks through the house towards the front door. Jimmy shouts after her.
JIMMY: Go on easy on him Sadie!
Sadie opens the front door just as Tom is about to. Tom is standing directly in front of Sadie with Charity at his side. Sadie looks horrified to see Charity standing there.
SADIE: Where in the blazes have you been Tom?! TOM: I'm sorry Sadie, I took Charity home to get changed and we ended up nattering! SADIE: You've been gone nearly two hours! It's not good enough Tom, you knew I was expecting you at 4! TOM: Calm down Sadie, I'm here now! Anyway, I'm not too late am I? SADIE: Well the barbeque's ruined, and the boys have managed to get through all the drink, so I'm afraid it is too late yes. CHARITY: What about this big announcement though eh? SADIE: Come through to the garden and I'll gladly tell you, come on Tom.
Tom hangs his jacket up and follows Sadie through to the garden, leaving Charity trailing. Sadie arrives in the garden to the raised brows of Jimmy and Matthew.
SADIE: We've had words, and your father has apologised. Though his excuse is a bit weak. JIMMY: Oh yeah? SADIE: Apparently him and Charity were "nattering" for too long when he took her home to get changed. Changed for what, I don't know, seeing as she wasn't invited! Did you invite her Matthew?! MATTHEW: No! I didn't even look at her, Dad's obviously decided to bring her along.
Tom steps out into the garden holding a glass of wine.
TOM: Suppose I'll have to make do with this seeing as you boys have finished off the beer. Were you talking about me just then? SADIE: Oh no! We were just saying, we didn't expect Charity to be coming that's all. TOM: Yeah, I invited her! Is it a problem? SADIE: Not at all!
Sadie fakes a pleased smile but her face turns to disgust as Charity walks through the door.
CHARITY: Alright lads?
Matthew and Jimmy quietly acknowledge Charity who smiles awkwardly. Sadie continues to scowl as Tom puts his arm around Charity's shoulders.
TOM: So then Sadie, are you gonna put us out of our misery? SADIE: What? Oh! Yes... well let's all just sit down first.
Sadie pulls up a chair for Tom who takes a seat. Everyone is seated now except for Charity who stands at the side looking out of place.
TOM: Charity, would you mind bringing another bottle of wine out please? CHARITY: What, now? SADIE: Yes please!
Sadie gives Charity daggers as Charity quickly goes into the kitchen, hoping she won't miss anything.
CHARITY: Wine... wine... ah!
Charity manages to track down a bottle of red and quickly rushes back outside. She purposely leans across Sadie to place the bottle on the table, and helps herself to a glass.
SADIE: Would you mind? CHARITY: Not at all.
Charity smirks as she starts to pour Sadie's wine. She suddenly fakes cramp in her arm and splashes a good amount over Sadie's top.
SADIE: Oh my god! You silly girl!
Sadie jumps up in shock and grabs the bottle from Charity's hand. Jimmy quickly starts to dab a cloth on Sadie's chest. Sadie tuts and pushes him away.
SADIE: Do you know how much this cost! I've a good mind to suggest this comes out of your wages! TOM: Sadie, it was just an accident! CHARITY: I'm so sorry! It was my arm, I get these twinges!
Charity fakes mock concern but is secretly delighted at Sadie's annoyance. Suddenly Matthew comes out of the kitchen with a glass of white wine and throws it all over Sadie's chest, making her shriek in horror.
SADIE: Matthew?! What are you doing?! MATTHEW: Sorry! It's just I heard white wine brings out red wine stains! JIMMY: You plonker! CHARITY: No I think he's right... good thinking Matthew!
Charity grins and takes a seat at the table with Tom, as Sadie continues to frantically rub at her top while Matthew and Jimmy fuss around her.
CHARITY: Sorry about that. TOM: Accidents happen. CHARITY: Are you OK? You seem a bit different since we... y'know? You don't regret it do you? TOM: Of course not! It's just that cousin of yours, I'm not happy about the set up with her and Karl. CHARITY: Chas is alright really y'know! She's not malicious I know that much. I wouldn't worry, I reckon Karl's just having a bit of fun. TOM: He's forgetting his responsibilities though! What about his wife and kids? He's acting like a teenager again. CHARITY: He's his own man Tom, you need to let him make his own mistakes. Have you tried talking to him? TOM: He won't listen, the fool! CHARITY: Look, I reckon him and Chas is just a bit of fun. He'll soon quiten down again soon, you'll see! TOM: I hope you're right...
Sadie comes storming back to the table, now wearing a new outfit.
SADIE: May I have my seat back please? CHARITY: Of course! I'll just go and get my own from inside... SADIE: Wait! I want you to go. CHARITY: What?! TOM: Sadie, if this is about the wine, it was an accident! SADIE: No it's not just that, this is a family gathering and I wanted it to be private. No offence, but Charity is and never will be family, so what I have to say is of no relevance to her! TOM: Well... if you're sure. CHARITY: Hang on, surely as an employee I... SADIE: It's nothing to concern you, I assure you! Now, I'm sure you'll be fine walking back, or I can call you a cab? CHARITY: Forget it!
Charity storms back into the house, Tom gets up to follow her. Sadie grabs Tom's arm and to keep him at the table. We hear the front door slam.
SADIE: Leave her Tom, I'm sure she'll cool down soon. JIMMY: Come on then Sadie, now she's gone, what is it you want to say?! SADIE: Ok... are you ready for this?

Part 5
SADIE: I've bought Home Farm.
Tom, Jimmy and Matthew sit openmouthed while Sadie smiles.
SADIE: Well... say something! JIMMY: How?! I mean... where did you get the money?! TOM: Zoe Tate's sold it to you?! MATTHEW: Blimey, this is a bombshell! SADIE: It was easier than it sounds! While I was in Cuba, Jimmy told me all about the situation with Tom wanting Home Farm, and Zoe wouldn't buy it. So, I decided to use the savings account... JIMMY: Our savings account?! SADIE: Well yes, but... JIMMY: Hang on a minute! You went behind my back and used all our savings to buy Home Farm?! Wait, we didn't even have another to afford that place! So we'll still be paying a mortgage!? Are you mad?! SADIE: Calm down Jimmy! Let me explain... JIMMY: You've gone too far!
Jimmy slams his bottle of lager on the table and storms inside the house, slamming the door behind him. Tom stands up and faces Sadie.
TOM: Go on Sadie, I'm listening. SADIE: Ok... I approached Zoe with a good deal! She agreed to sell me Home Farm, if we gave her back this place. She said she was fed up of maintaining the estate, and it would be easier for her to move in here with the children! Let's just say I appealed to her better nature! TOM: So why didn't she sell it to me when I asked her to? SADIE: Too much going on with Charity apparently... seems she managed to screw that deal up without even trying! I caught Zoe at a good time I guess. MATTHEW: Hold on, you mentioned Zoe wanted this place back? So did she knock the value off the price of Home Farm? SADIE: Oh, well... TOM: Sadie...! SADIE: It was part of the deal! She would never have budged otherwise! Tom, surely you understand how much better this is for us?!
Tom sighs and takes a large gulp of wine, while Matthew sits smirking at Sadie's predicament.
TOM: Think of all that money we've lost! So what happens now? We all move across to Home Farm and live happily ever after? SADIE: Yes! It gets us away from those awful Dingles next door, we have more room, and I've got the stables for my horses! TOM: Oh I see! This is all about you and your horses! Just thinking about number one again Sadie?! SADIE: Not at all! That's just a benefit! Look, it's a very easy deal guys! We move in to Home Farm, Zoe moves in here. There's a really small mortgage compared to what the property is worth, it could be paid off in 10 years, and in the meantime we have a lot of space and fun, living where you wanted us to Tom!
Tom ponders the thought for a while and walks over to Sadie.
TOM: I won't say I'm not shocked... but I suppose you're right. I did want Home Farm, and now we've got it, well it's brilliant news! SADIE: Oh Tom, I knew you'd love it!
Sadie and Tom hug as Matthew roll his eyes. Sadie smiles, feeling satisfied, over Tom's shoulder.
Meanwhile, Charity is sitting in Pear Tree Cottage, annoyed and confused. She looks at a photo taken of her and Tom at the party with Sadie standing at the side, looking at Charity. She picks up a pair of scissors and scrawls at the photo, scratching out Sadie's face.
CHARITY: You bitch. Just you wait.

Part 6
Tom and Matthew are clearing up the barbeque. Sadie walks through into the living room where Jimmy is standing, looking out of the window. She puts her arms around him and rests her head on his shoulder.
SADIE: Don't be mad at me. JIMMY: Do you expect me to be happy? That money was both of ours, did you not think to consult me first? SADIE: I knew you'd kick up a fuss so I just went ahead myself! This is the best thing all round for us Jimmy! JIMMY: I knew I should've agreed to joint signatures on that account. SADIE: Don't resent me... I was doing it for the family.
Sadie starts to cry, though it's obvious this is an act. Jimmy turns around and comforts her.
JIMMY: Oh don't cry, I don't resent you, I just wished you'd thought of asking me! To be honest, I probably would've agreed with you anyway. SADIE: Really? Well... that's good, because I want us to be a strong partnership you see. I'm sorry Jimmy, I know I was silly but I just got carried away. JIMMY: Well, it's done now, so we might as well move on and look forward to our new estate!
Sadie grins and they hug. Sadie smiles triumphantly to herself.
Sorry it was short, but Part 7 will be coming soon, where there is a shock in store for Matthew!

I was quite interested in the story, it is good that there is only afew characters to start with, so it does not get to confusing. It is easy to understand without getting boring and the scenes are not too explicit but left to the imagination to know what's happend like with the bedroom scene. Well done. ;D

Part 7Jimmy and Sadie walk out onto the back lawn holding hands. Tom and Matthew are just clearing away the last of the barbeque. TOM: I see you two made friends quickly enough! JIMMY: Well Sadie's right Dad, Home Farm and its estate is a goldmine! And we can afford it. TOM: Well, I'm prepared to give it a go. To be honest, I have found this place a bit pokey! SADIE: Exactly, think of all the freedom up at Home Farm. TOM: And another thing... I don't want you and Jimmy to be forking out for a mortgage, so if you agree, I want to buy a share in Home Farm. JIMMY: That'd be great! Sadie? SADIE: Well... oh, I had hoped we could stand on our own two feet for once... no offence Tom! It's just, me and Jimmy, we need to feel independent. JIMMY: Hold on... SADIE: But we'll think about it Tom, thankyou! Sadie kisses Tom on the cheek and pats his shoulder affectionately. Tom and Matthew go inside. JIMMY: What did you do that for?! That was a perfect opportunity to keep some of the money you've spent on that place! SADIE: Listen! If your dad owns part of that, it could lead to Charity owning part - he's taken to her and I don't like it! If they end up married, there's no way back and she will end up with either part of that estate, or a very large amount of cash! JIMMY: Oh get real Sadie! Do you really think Dad won't see through her?! I think you're reading too much into this, in a few months, Charity will be old news. SADIE: I'm not so sure, I'm really not so sure. Meanwhile, Charity is looking at the photo of herself, Tom and Sadie at the party. She screws it up and throws it in the bin before picking her coat up and walking briskly out of the cottage. At the same time, Tom pops his head around the patio door at Holdgate Farm. TOM: I'm just going out, shan't be long! JIMMY: Dad, wait! TOM: What is it? JIMMY: Sadie and I... we've decided to take you up on the offer. You buying part of the estate would mean no mortgage, and I know Home Farm means a lot to you. It'd be daft not to agree. TOM: Great! Sadie? SADIE: Oh, yes... like Jimmy said, it would be daft. Thanks again Tom. TOM: My pleasure! Tom leaves with a grin, while Sadie glares at Jimmy. SADIE: I didn't agree to anything! JIMMY: Which is why I did! You're overreacting Sadie, we'll make sure we get rid of Charity OK? And then we can enjoy life at the manor! In the meantime, Charity is halfway to Holdgate Farm when she spots Tom driving towards her. He slows down and winds down the window. TOM (shouting): Charity! Charity! Charity puts her head down and pretends to ignore him, still walking ahead. TOM: Oh don't be like this! Get in the car so I can explain! CHARITY: I don't wanna hear it! TOM: Charity! Come on, give me a chance! Charity stops and turns around. She smiles a coy smile and walks towards the car, getting in at the passenger side. CHARITY: Go on then, I'm listening. TOM: Look, don't be offended that Sadie asked you to leave, I think she just wanted to be centre of attention and for it to be special. CHARITY: Oh so I'm just a piece of muck, there when it suits? And as for practically making me waitress...! TOM: I'm sorry, I should've handled it differently, but you left in such a hurry I thought it'd be best to leave you to it. CHARITY: I'm obviously nothing to you Tom! I mean, it was only an hour ago we were in bed together and now I'm just a skivy right? TOM: Not at all! Don't say that! You know how much I care about you, the situation up at the house was just difficult, Sadie is difficult. I didn't want to upset anyone, so I'm sorry you were! CHARITY: Do you really mean that? TOM: Of course! You mean a lot to me, an awful lot. CHARITY: You mean a lot to me 'n all. Charity smiles sweetly at Tom who puts his hand on hers. TOM: Does this mean I'm forgiven? CHARITY: OK, but don't go expecting anything else just yet! So then... what was Sadie's big announcement after all!? TOM: Oh yes! I nearly forgot... she's bought Home Farm and I've offered to buy a stake too! Charity's eyes nearly pop out of her head and her mouth hangs open in disbelief. It's like all her Christmas' came at once! CHARITY: I can't believe it! Zoe sold Home Farm?! What, all of it?! TOM: Apparently! Sadie struck up a deal with Zoe when she was vunerable or something, and we're moving next week! Zoe will live in Holdgate Farm, so it's basically a straight swap. I'm really happy, I've loved that place for many years. CHARITY: Wow... that's big news! So I take it this means I'll be working there? TOM: Well, yes! Are you OK with that, I mean, after everything that happened? CHARITY: I don't know... it'll bring back memories, but I've gotta move on right? Can't let Chris hold me back. TOM: That's settled then! Prepare to move premises next week! Now, where were you going just now? CHARITY: Well, to be honest it was to come and see you. TOM (laughs): What are you like?! Do you want to come back to mine for coffee? Oh listen to me, I sound like a tired cliché!<br>CHARITY: I'm taking you up on the offer anyway! Tom smiles and they head up to Holdgate Farm. Part 9 coming soon, where Matthew finally gets his shock! (Sorry it wasn't in this one )

Part 8
Tom and Charity arrive at Holdgate Farm just as Sadie and Jimmy are about to leave.
SADIE: Oh we were justing heading down to the Woolpack, are you coming? TOM: Nah, me and Charity will just stay in and relax I thing. We've had enough excitement for one day! SADIE: Not even for a celebratory drink? CHARITY: Thanks Sadie, but... we'll leave it for now eh Tom? TOM: OK, oh and while you two are here, there's something I'd like to clear up. Charity and I are a couple.
Jimmy raises his eyebrows and Sadie frowns, but then fakes her congratulations.
SADIE: Oh how nice! I hope you'll both be happy, now make sure you take good care of him Charity? CHARITY: Don't worry, I will.
Sadie gives Charity daggers as Charity grins and walks into the house.
TOM: Right, well I'll see you two later. JIMMY: Yeah, see you Dad.
Tom walks into the house, closing the door and Sadie and Jimmy make their way to the Woolpack.
SADIE: I knew it! She got her claws into him already! What are we going to do Jimmy, this could jeopardise our future at Home Farm! JIMMY: Don't worry about it just yet, we'll deal with her in good time. Dad's a fool though for even believing she's remotely interested!
Meanwhile back inside Holdgate Farm, Tom and Charity are settled in front of the fire with a bottle of wine, when Matthew walks in.
MATTHEW: Oh sorry, didn't realise anyone was here. TOM: That's alright son, were you after anything? MATTHEW: No it's OK, was just gonna read the paper but I'll go in the study, don't wanna play gooseberry.
Charity smiles sweetly at Matthew who, clearly embarrassed, hurries out of the room.
TOM: I worry about that lad sometimes, it'd be nice to see him with a girl of his own one day. CHARITY: Maybe he's just waiting for the right one, it's not like there's a lot of choice around here. TOM: No, you're right, and it's lucky I snapped up the best girl in the village!
Tom kisses Charity, who responds to the kiss.
TOM: I love you Charity.
Charity stares wide eyed at Tom, shocked at his revelation. Tom smiles at her expectantly.
CHARITY: Wow... that's a shock! Are you sure? TOM: Of course! I don't just say it to anybody, I do love you Charity. CHARITY: Well... I feel the same. TOM: Good, that's a relief! CHARITY: Come here you big softy.
Charity pulls Tom closer for another kiss and rests her head on his chest, grinning silently to herself.
TOM: Do you miss the baby? CHARITY: What? TOM: The baby? Do you miss it, the one you gave to Zoe? CHARITY: What's that got to do with anything? TOM: Sorry, it was just a question. I've been pondering it for a while, wondering whether you feel sad deep down. CHARITY: Well, no, I don't. I know I made the right choice in the end, what sort of life could I have given to it? TOM: Would you have kept him if you'd known you'd end up with me? Because things could've been different then. CHARITY: Well, if I had kept him, I wouldn't have been able to get this job, and would've have gotten to know you so well would I? TOM: I suppose. I didn't think you had a heart of stone like everyone says. CHARITY: Oh, been listening to idol gossip have you? TOM: Not at all, it's just... it's difficult for me, I've never been involved with someone who has so much history! CHARITY: But that's what it is Tom - history. No need bringing it all up now and ruining the night. TOM: Sorry, let's just forget it.
Charity jumps up off the sofa and starts to put her jacket back on.
CHARITY: No, I'm sorry Tom, I think I'd better go back home and let you think through your doubts about me before we decide to go any further. TOM: Oh don't be silly, you're overreacting now! CHARITY: See ya Tom.
Charity storms out of the living room and out of the front door. Tom sighs and buries his head in his hands. It's now dark outside and Charity can't see where she's going. She suddenly bumps into a dark figure.
CHARITY: Oh my god! Cain! What the hell are you doing here?! CAIN: Just going for a stroll and noticed you dashing out of Playboy Mansion! CHARITY: Oh shut up Cain, get out of me way.
Charity tries to get past him, but Cain holds her back.
CHARITY: Cain! Get your hands off me! CAIN: Calm down! I only wanted to see if you were alright, seeing as we never speak these days. CHARITY: Yeah well that suits me fine, and if you must know I've never felt better, now you're out of my life, now let me past! CAIN: Not until you tell me what you're playing at with him. CHARITY: Who?! CAIN: The old man, who d'ya think?! Don't tell me you seriously like him, he's old enough to be your grandad. It's sick, you've lost it Charity, and I'm surprised he hasn't seen through you yet! CHARITY: There's nothing to see through, you just don't understand the fact that I like someone more than you! And guess what Cain, he's ten times the man you are.
Charity tries to force herself out of Cain's grip but he becomes irritated and grips her around the throat.
CAIN: You're a poisonous bitch! And I can't wait until you're back in the gutter.
Suddenly Matthew comes running down the driveway.
MATTHEW: Oi! Get your hands off her!
Matthew runs towards Cain, holding a baseball bat.
CAIN: Oh look who it is, the guard dog! What you gonna do, hit me with your stick? MATTHEW: I'm serious, let her go, you're on private property here as well, so if I'd be defending myself against an intruder.
Cain smirks and drops Charity to the ground who's gasping for breath.
CHARITY: You psycho! CAIN: Next time, you might not be so lucky. MATTHEW: Just get out! CAIN: And you might not be so lucky either.
Cain smirks and walks off in the direction of the pub leaving Charity on the ground.
MATTHEW: Are you alright? CHARITY: Yeah... just a bit sore. Don't worry, I'm used to that. MATTHEW: Something should be done about him. CHARITY: Oh there's no point, he could be locked up for years but still find ways at getting at me. Look, thanks for that, I'm not sure if he would've backed off if you hadn't come out when you did. MATTHEW: It's OK, just glad I could help. Look, are you sure you'll be alright, I can drive you home if you're worried he might wait for you? CHARITY: Yeah cheers that'd be nice. MATTHEW: Come on then.
They both get into Matthew's car, and set off for Pear Tree Cottage.
MATTHEW: So... this thing between you and my dad, is it serious? CHARITY: Not really. We just like each other, I guess it's just a bit of fun at the moment really. We enjoy each other's company. MATTHEW: Yeah so it seems! CHARITY: You don't need to worry y'know. I know Sadie and Jimmy aren't exactly my biggest fans but I'm not out to get anyone. Tom knows the score, we're both just having a laugh and getting on well! MATTHEW: Fair enough... right we're here. CHARITY: Thanks for the lift, and thanks for sorting Cain out, I appreciate it. MATTHEW: No problem, anytime.
Matthew smiles and Charity gives him a peck on the lips. Her hand lingers on his face and she moves in for another kiss as Matthew and Charity start kissing passionately in the front of the his car...

PART 9
As Charity and Matthew continue to kiss, Carl and Chastity are walking up the road.
CARL: So, are you glad to have me all to yourself? CHASTITY: Ooh I thought you'd never come back! CARL: Ah, irresistable see. CHASTITY: Don't get too cocky, there's plenty of other men vying for my attentions!
As Chas and Carl walk past Matthew's car, they stop dead after looking inside.
CARL: What the... CHAS: Charity!
Charity and Matthew break their kiss and look startled at the watching pair. Matthew jumps out the driver's side door.
MATTHEW: Look, it isn't what it... CARL: Looks like? Yeah right! CHAS: Charity, what are ya playing at?! It's only a few hours since you were in bed with his dad! MATTHEW: What?! CARL: You and dad?! CHARITY: Look! Let's all calm down! Or do we want the neighbours hearing every word? CARL: Come on, inside.
The four walk inside and sit on the couch.
MATTHEW: Come on then Charity, explain yourself. CHARITY: Look, things aren't serious between Tom and me, just like things aren't serious between us two! CARL: So, you're having the best of both worlds? CHARITY: Look, I just wanted a bit of fun! Is wasn't intended to get heavy! MATTHEW: It's alright, it was a mistake. CHAS: Charity, make your mind up eh? CHARITY: OK OK... I'm seeing Tom, but I was a bit worse for wear and Matthew, you were a shoulder to cry on! It's nothing serious OK. CARL: Right, now that's sorted let's crack some beers open eh? MATTHEW: Not for me, I'm goin' home.
Matthew swiftly walks out of the door and down the garden path. He stands outside the wall and wipes a tear from his eye before getting back into the car. Meanwhile, back inside Charity and Chas are having a row.
CHAS: I can't believe you just did that! I thought things were serious between you and Tom?! CARL: If me dad find's out about this he won't be happy y'know, he relies on trust. CHARITY: Look, keep your nose out right?! CHAS: Don't speak to him like that, he's right! When are you gonna just settle for what you've got eh? CHARITY: Chas I can't believe you're acting like this, you don't even like Tom! Matthew was just a one off, I've already explained. CHAS: It's you I'm thinkin' of, the last thing I want is you back where you started in the gutter! CHARITY: Well, don't bother worrying about me eh, I can sort myself out OK?
Charity stomps up the stairs as Chas and Carl sigh in defeat.

PART 10
The scene skips to a few hours later, at 10pm. Tom is sitting nursing a whisky on the living room sofa while Sadie and Jimmy discuss paperwork and moving dates for Home Farm.
SADIE: So, we move out of here on Monday morning and then have the whole day to unpack and sort out the basics. Zoe has agreed to have her removal van ready so it'll be a straight swap. JIMMY: Well, it's Friday now, so we've got the weekend to organise ourselves I guess. I'm gonna take a look at the contract before we do anything, just in case you've missed any fine details. SADIE: Don't you trust me? JIMMY: Of course, it's just I know a lot more about buying and selling than you ever will sweetheart!
Sadie gives Jimmy a playful smack on the leg and looks over to Tom.
SADIE: Are you OK Tom? You've been very quiet since Charity left. TOM: I'm fine. In fact, I think I'll get an early night. SADIE: Oh? Well aren't you going to stay and discuss the arrangements for Monday? TOM: Nah, I'll leave that upto you two, I'm too tired for facts and figures tonight. See you in the morning.
Tom swiftly jumps up off the chair, places his glass on the sideboard and heads upstairs.
SADIE: There's something wrong with him, do you think it's to do with her? JIMMY: Who? SADIE: Charity! JIMMY: Oh don't worry about him, I reckon he's seen through her and is just brooding for a bit. I'm sure he threw her out before. SADIE: Well I hope so, the next time I see her face it'll be too soon!
In the meanwhile, Charity is on her bed crying softly to herself when Chas walks in on her.
CHAS: Charity? Oh don't cry! CHARITY: Oh Chas, I've made such a mess of everything! CHAS: Tell me about it, what were you playin' at with Matthew?! CHARITY: I don't know! It was just spur of the moment. I knew he fancied me so I just wanted a bit of an ego trip I guess. Now it's all gonna go wrong! CHAS: Are you just worried about spoiling the high life with Tom or do you really like him? CHARITY: Oh I don't know, things were just goin' so well! Then Tom started goin' on about my past so I stormed out and bumped into Cain. CHAS: Cain? CHARITY: Yeah, he was really heavy Chas, and I mean heavy. Matthew came out and managed to get him to leave and then offered me a lift home. The next thing I know I'm kissing him in his car! I was just emotional after the row with Tom and the thing with Cain. Do you think Matthew will tell Tom what happened? CHAS: I dunno, he did seem quite upset, I reckon he thought he was well in with ya, until he found out you'd slept with Tom. CHARITY: What a mess eh Chas? I'm just gonna have to wait and see what happens tomorrow now.
Just up the road, Matthew is sitting in his car silently sobbing after being shunned by Charity. In the meantime, there is a knock at the door of Holdgate Farm which Sadie hurries to answer.
JIMMY: Who's that at this time? SADIE: It had better not be... oh Zoe! Do come in! ZOE: Thanks.
Zoe smiles weakly as Jimmy and Sadie seem surprised to see her.
JIMMY: Hello Zoe, what brings you here? ZOE: Well, I'm not stopping long, I just needed to come and see you as soon as possible really. SADIE: Is there a problem with the sale? ZOE: I'm afraid so... there's no easy way for me to say this, but I'm sorry I've been thinking, I don't want to move out of Home Farm after all. JIMMY: What do you mean? ZOE: I'm afraid the sale's off.
Look out for Part 11 later this week!

PART 11
SADIE: What?! JIMMY: You must be joking! ZOE: Look, I'm sorry, I've had time to think about it and I just don't want to move out of Home Farm, I've got a lot of fond memories there. SADIE: You can't just muck us about like this! We were just about to sign contracts! ZOE: I've made up my mind, I really do apologise for the inconvenience. It's better I realised now than in week's time. JIMMY: So, that's it is it? You just waltz in here and the deal's off. Well, we want every penny of that money back. ZOE: Don't worry, you'll get it, I'll even add on a little extra as a consolation... SADIE: Hold on a minute! We don't need your hand outs! You've made a big mistake here Zoe, I've got no trust in you anymore. ZOE: If you were in my position you would realise how difficult it is for me to leave and you caught me at a bad time, I was having trouble with Christopher and...
Suddenly Tom appears from out of the hall.
TOM: It's alright Zoe. You don't have to explain. I'll have Matthew come round tomorrow and collect all the revelant documents, plus our refund. ZOE: No problem, I'll make sure it's all ready. Again, sorry for the inconvenience.
Zoe makes a quick exit as Sadie scowls at Tom's interference.
SADIE: Tom! You can't just let her get away with it! TOM: Sadie, calm down. I'm too old for this, just let her get on with. We didn't need Home Farm, yes I was getting used to the idea but we're perfectly OK here. JIMMY: Maybe Dad's right, I mean we haven't lost anything and we can use that money for a new investment? SADIE: I knew you two weren't keen on the idea, you're a pair of cowards! No wonder that *sleeper has got you wrapped around her finger!
Sadie goes to storm out of the room but Tom grips her arm and pulls her towards him.
TOM: What did you call her?! She's no *sleeper! You have no idea you spoilt bitch! JIMMY: Dad! Oi! Get your hand off her!
Jimmy pulls Tom off Sadie who winces as her arm is released from Tom's grasp.
SADIE: What has gotten in to you?! That really hurt Tom!
Sadie quickly dashes out of the room and she is heard to be sobbing in the background.
JIMMY: Lay another finger on her and god help me!
Jimmy rushes to see to Sadie as Tom stands shocked at his own actions.
