The Story So Far...
Charity and Tom took their relationship one step further by sleeping together in Pear Tree Cottage. Chastity found them in bed and had a row with Tom over her relationship with Carl. Meanwhile, Sadie had arranged a family barbeque to announce she had bought Home Farm from Zoe and was annoyed that Tom turned up late with Charity in tow.
Charity stormed out of the meeting after Tom refused to back her up when Sadie asked her to lead. Tom and Jimmy were both annoyed with Sadie's revelation at first but soon came round after a little bit of persuading from Sadie herself. However, Tom decided he wanted to help Sadie and Jimmy out by purchasing a share in Home Farm, to which Sadie reluctantly agreed.
Tom went looking for Charity who was also on her way up to Holdgate Farm and they managed to patch things up in the car, especially since Charity had learned Tom had a share of Home Farm. Tom officially announced to his family that he and Charity are a couple much to Sadie's annoyance.
However, even though Tom declared he loves Charity, he managed to put his foot in it and Charity stormed out yet again. In her dash back home she came across Cain who violently lashed out at her. Matthew luckily came to her rescue and drove her back to Pear Tree cottage, where Charity and Matthew ended up kissing in the car. Carl and Chas spotted them and a debate continued inside the house as to what Charity is playing at.
Matthew left, visibly upset, after Charity brushed off their kiss and claimed she was serious about Tom while Chastity warned Charity about getting in too deep. Tom was also upset over Charity's walk out the night before, while Sadie and Tom organised their house move and Charity cried on Chas' shoulder over her mess up with Tom.
And lastly, Zoe appeared at the King household to tell a shocked Sadie that she was no longer selling Home Farm. Tom managed to calm the situation and told Zoe it was fine. Sadie became visibly annoyed and launched a tirade of abuse about Charity in Tom's direction which caused him to snap and grab Sadie's arm whilst calling her a spoilt bitch.
Chapter 12 - Day Two
Tom wakes up late, after a mostly sleepless night. The events of the evening before still on his mind. He hears Sadie and Jimmy talking loudly downstairs and reluctantly gets out of bed. Suddenly, there's a loud knock at the door followed by a thunderous noise on the stairs and Tom's bedroom door being flung open.
CARL: Dad, dad!
TOM: Carl, what is it?!
CARL: Come downstairs, quick, it's Matthew.
Tom quickly ties his dressing gown around his waist and hurries downstairs to find a distressed Jimmy, Sadie and Carl at the front door.
TOM: What's the matter?!
Sadie and Carl stand apart to see Jimmy is propping a bloodied and beaten Matthew up against the doorframe.
TOM: Oh my god! He's barely conscious, what the hell happened?!
CARL: I was coming out of Pear Tree cottage and saw his car outside the house, the door was wide open and Matthew was hanging out like this! I haven't got a clue what happened!
SADIE: Let me call an ambulance!
Sadie dashes into the kitchen while Tom, Carl and Jimmy sit Matthew on the stairs.
JIMMY: Who the hell would do this? If I find out...
TOM: Come on Matthew, can you hear me? Are you alright?
SADIE: The ambulance is on it's way, should be 10 minutes.
MATTHEW: I don't need an... am..bulance.
JIMMY: Don't try and talk mate, take it easy.
SADIE: This is awful, who would do such a thing?!
Meanwhile, Charity is preparing to confront Tom and admit her feelings for him, but is secretly worried about her kiss with Matthew the night before
CHAS: I hope Matthew will be alright, Carl looked pretty shaken.
CHARITY: Look... Chas, there's something you'd better know but don't breathe a word to anyone y'hear?
CHAS: Alright! What is it?
CHARITY: Last night, before me and Matthew kissed, Cain was up at Holdgate Farm and he threatened me. Anyway, it were Matthew that came to my rescue, he told Cain to get lost.
CHAS: So what?
CHARITY: Well don't you see? It must be Cain who beat Matthew up!
CHAS: Do you think he'd do somethin' like that on his own doorstep though?!
CHARITY: Well it all fits, and he was in a really bad mood last night, I mean really bad!
CHAS: Well, Matthew's bound to tell all when he recovers anyway, so we'll know the truth then.
CHARITY: Yeah, but what if he decides to tar me with the same brush and tells Tom about the kiss?! I mean, Matthew was hardly jumping for joy last night. I'm worried Chas, this could ruin everything!
CHAS: Give the poor guy some sympathy! He's just been battered half to death, I think you're the least of the King's worries at the moment.
CHARITY: So you don't reckon Tom would be very pleased to see me?
CHAS: I dunno, if he loves ya then maybe he does wanna see you, but he might be a bit wrapped up at the moment.
CHARITY: I'll go up tonight, he's bound to be there later after all the drama's died down. I just hope he wants to see me...

Part 13
An ambulance arrives at the King house and paramedics jump out to tend to Matthew.
MEDIC: OK let's take a look at him, sit down here love. Does anybody know what's happened? What's his name?
CARL: Matthew, he's been beaten up just down the road there, I found him in his car.
TOM: Are the police on their way?
MEDIC: They should be here in a few minutes, now he doesn't look too badly injured, can you hear me Matthew?
MATTHEW: Yes
MEDIC: OK love, where does it hurt?
MATTHEW: Everywhere!
The paramedics tend to Matthew as Jimmy takes Tom aside.
JIMMY: Look dad, don't think I haven't forgotten about last night. Sadie was really upset and what do you think you were playin' at grabbin' her like that?!
TOM: I know son, I'm sorry. It was just what she said about Charity, it made me angry! She's got no right to speak about her like that, she's the woman I love!
JIMMY: Oh don't be daft dad, you love her?! She's out for everything she can get I can't believe you haven't seen that for yourself yet! Me and Sadie and worried about you that's all. If Charity's turning you into a moody woman beater than we've every right to be.
TOM: Now you're being daft, I'm not a woman beater! And the only reason I'm in a bad mood is because you lot put me in one! Now let's leave it at that, I'll apologise to Sadie later but what you need to realise is that Charity is staying put, so let's just think about Matthew for now!

Part 14 - An Hour Later
Matthew has been taken into hospital for observation overnight after his severe beating. Tom and Jimmy accompanied him in the ambulance leaving Sadie and Carl at home.
SADIE: Oh I don't know what's happening to this family anymore it seems to be one thing after another. First Charity appears then we lose Home Farm and now this!
CARL: Yeah it's all a bit too much I'm sure things will settle down soon. Matthew will be alright, we just need to find out who did it to him!
SADIE: I have no idea but I'm sure he'll be able to tell the police.
CARL: Well, I'm going down Woolpack, you coming?
SADIE: Oh no, I'll stay here, I'm going to have a long soak in the bath.
CARL: Suit yourself, see you later. Oh and give me a ring if you hear anything new.
SADIE: Sure, bye Carl.
Carl leaves the room and heads down the driveway as Sadie makes her way upstairs. As Carl is walking down the road he meets Charity.
CHARITY: Hi Carl, how's Matthew?
CARL: Oh... bad really, but he'll be alright I guess. We have no idea who did it though.
CHARITY: Ah shame, I'm sure he'll be able to tell you though?
CARL: Yeah I'm sure he will. He's had a rough deal this past few days...
CHARITY: Is that meant to be aimed at me? Look, we sorted this out last night, me and Matthew kissing was a mistake and he must've known nothing was gonna happen!
CARL: Well it wasn't fair to muck him around like that, he's always had a thing for you, you know that.
CHARITY: I didn't! I had no idea, I was just kissing him goodnight and then it went from there. Look Carl it meant nothing and I won't feel guilty about it!
Charity storms off in the direction of Holdgate Farm.
CARL: (shouts) Me dad's not in if you're looking for him! He's got a son who's more important.
Charity scowls but keeps going up to the Kings. She arrives at the front door and bangs heavily.
CHARITY: Tom! Are you in? We need to have a serious talk!
Suddenly the door is swung open and Charity is faced with Sadie in her dressing gown.
SADIE: What do you want? Tom's not here, now leave us alone!
CHARITY: Hey hang on a minute! I haven't finished with you!
Charity pushes her way into the house and strides into the kitchen.
SADIE: Get out! How dare you barge in here?!
CHARITY: Look, what is your problem with me? Ever since me and Tom have started to see each other you've been on my back, trying to split us up. I love Tom and he loves me... face it Sadie, you can't win!
SADIE: You're a malicious tart! You don't know love, all you love is money and yourself. Tom's a fool for taking you on and we all know the truth, it's just Tom is taking a while to realise. We'll soon convince him before it's too late!
CHARITY: You scheming bitch!
Charity lunges at Sadie and grips her hair in her hands. Sadie retaliates by doing them same and soon the pair are ramming each other against the kitchen units.
SADIE: Get off!
CHARITY: You won't get rid of me Sadie!
Sadie manages to release Charity's grip and grabs Charity by her face with one hand, slamming her against the wall forcefully.
SADIE: You might think you've won but one day it'll all come crashing down and I won't stop until you're gone.
Suddenly the kitchen door opens and Carl is standing there.
CARL: What's goin' on?!
Charity pushes Sadie off who falls to the floor.
CHARITY: You evil cow. You won't get away with this!
Charity rushes out of the door leaving Carl speechless.
CARL: I... forgot my wallet.
SADIE: Now do you see what she's like! She attacked me!
CARL: Are you alright?
SADIE: Yes, no thanks to you!
Sadie pushes past Carl and rushes upstairs, fuming.

Part 15
Charity is walking back down to Pear Tree Cottage in a furious mood when Carl comes running up behind her.
CARL: Charity, hang on a minute.
CHARITY: (rolling eyes) Oh what do you want?
CARL: What was all that about with Sadie?!
CHARITY: Oh she had that coming! Anyway, she started on me first she just can't handle the fact that me and Tom are an item!
CARL: Or maybe she just doesn't trust you, like the rest of us!
CHARITY: Who's us? I don't care about the rest of you, it's Tom I want!
CARL: Well it's not what it looked like last night...
CHARITY: (sighing) Carl I've been through this with you! Matthew was a one off mistake, it'll never happen again not with him or anyone! I was mad at Tom and wanted some comfort, now can we drop it!
CARL: Alright, if you say so. Just don't go taking my dad for a ride alright, otherwise you can deal with all of us.
CHARITY: Look, stop worrying and let me get on with my life! I love Tom and he loves me so nothing's gonna spoil that! Sadie can do all she wants but she's just gonna have to get used to it.
CARL: She's pretty shaken up back there!
CHARITY: Well it'll teach her not to take me on again won't it!
Charity turns and walks off briskly in the direction of the village leaving Carl standing alone.
Meanwhile at the hospital Tom and Jimmy are beside Matthew's bed.
TOM: You alright son?
MATTHEW: As best as can be expected.
JIMMY: Who was it Matt? Who did it?
MATTHEW: Not now Jimmy... I'm still trying to get me head round it!
TOM: Leave him for now, the truth will come out in due course.
JIMMY: The longer we leave it the more chance the person who did has of getting away scot free!
MATTHEW: I'm talking to the police tomorrow so they can take my statement, it'll all be on there.
JIMMY: Then why can't you tell me and dad now?
MATTHEW: I need to think things through, make sure I've got everything right!
TOM: Jimmy, leave it alone!
JIMMY: Well, just make sure you do the right thing OK?
MATTHEW: (rolling eyes) Yes boss.
TOM: Jimmy I could murder a cup of tea, will you do the honours?
JIMMY: But...
TOM: Go on, get some sandwiches too while you're out there.
Tom thrusts a five pound note in Jimmy's hand and shifts his eyes in the direction of the door. Jimmy takes the hint and leaves the ward.
TOM: So is there anything you want to tell me now he's gone?
MATTHEW: Actually, there is...
TOM: Go on, it won't go any further.
MATTHEW: Well it's not really anything to do with the attack.
TOM: So what is it?
MATTHEW: It's about Charity.

Chapter 16
TOM: Charity? What's Charity got to do with anything?
MATTHEW: Last night, I took her home after she came out of the house. Did you two have a row?
TOM: Well... yeah, but I still don't see what this has got to do with anything!
MATTHEW: Dad, when we got back to Pear Tree Cottage she made a move on me. She kissed me and then told me to come inside. Carl and Chas saw it too.
TOM: What?! Matthew...
MATTHEW: Dad don't ask me for reasons because I don't know why it happened. She was just all over me and I had to practically push her off. Carl and Chas were coming back home and saw everything so we all went inside and she tried to worm her way out of it. She said she loved you and I was a mistake. Honestly dad she's a tart and she's taking you for a ride.
TOM: I don't believe this, I can't handle it!
Tom jumps up from his seat and grabs his coat. Matthew holds onto Tom's arm and looks directly at him.
MATTHEW: Dad... I'm sorry, it's true. Ask Carl or Chas and they'll give you the same story!
Tom snatches his hand away and strides out of the hospital, breezing past Jimmy who is on his way back into the ward.
JIMMY: What's up with him?!
MATTHEW: Oh he just remember an important meeting... typical dad, getting wound up over business when his son's lying half dead in hospital!
JIMMY: He'll never change. So, how are you feeling now?
MATTHEW: Not bad, still tender but I'll survive. Nurses reckon I'll be out by middle of next week.
JIMMY: Well that's good news, we can get back to normal and set about going after the thug who did this.
MATTHEW: Ah leave it Jim, I'll deal with things me own way.
JIMMY: Well, I suppose you might as well know the Home Farm move is off. Zoe came round yesterday and called the whole thing off. Sadie's livid.
MATTHEW: Ah well, I was never that keen anyway.
JIMMY: (laughing) Me either but you know what Sadie's like, I was actually quite relieved when Zoe came round! Even dad didn't care, in fact I'm not on very good terms with him at the moment.
MATTHEW: Oh?
JIMMY: He lashed out at Sadie, she was devestated.
MATTHEW: You're joking?
JIMMY: Afraid not, he gripped her arm because she was slagging off Charity. I tell you, that girl is creating too many problems for this family, I'm worried dad's getting far too involved.
MATTHEW: You don't know the half of it mate...
