She didn't claim that she'd grown to love him and she was certainly after his money from the start. If she really loved him I don't think she would have found it so easy to leave or sleep with Jimmy even if she did use to be a prostitute - she must have known that would have hurt Tom as well as scuppering Sadie's plans. I don't think if you love someone you can do that to them.

Neither do I think Tom really loved Charity. She was a much younger, better looking girl than he could have dreamed of prepared to sleep with him. It was just his ego that was flattered or he couldn't have called off the wedding and refused to see her like he did. If you really don't agree why not do a poll?

Chapter 9


Sadie caught up with the boys outside as they were getting into Matthew’s car.

‘Are you 3 ok?’ She asked them.

‘Yeah, we just need to get our head around all of this, so we are going to go for a drink and discuss it!’ Jimmy told her.

‘Do you want me to come with you?’ She asked.

‘No, I think it would be better if it was just us three to discuss it – Ok?’ He told her.

‘Ok, I’ll stay here with Tom then!’ She answered.

Jimmy nodded and got in the car with the other two and they drove off. Sadie was secretly pleased to be able to stay with Tom, just incase Charity showed up, though she was the least important person at the moment at the moment, but you couldn’t be too careful.

Meanwhile, the 3 boys reached the Woolpack and went in. The actual journey there had been rather quiet, infact nothing had been said at all. When they had got their drinks and sat down, they more than made up for it.

‘So, what do you think to the situation of Katie?’ Jimmy asked his brothers.

‘Well, it’ll be nice to boss someone younger around for once!’ Carl chirped in.

Matthew and Jimmy looked at him, in disbelief.

‘I don’t believe you, we have just been given a bombshell that we have suddenly aquired a ‘new kid sister’ and all you can say is ‘Well, it will be nice to boss someone younger around for once, you are, you’re unbelievable!’ Jimmy told him, whilst matt just stared at him and gave him a disbelieving grin.

Carl looked at them both.

‘Well, I’m just saying, making a bit of light humour of the situation!’ He said, trying raise a laugh.

‘Well, it isn’t a situation that is that funny, really or hadn’t you noticed/’ Jimmy continued.

‘Alright, keep your hair on, I’m just saying it might not be too bad having a ‘new kid sister’ especially given who her Mum is!’ Carl defended himself.

That stumped the other two. Carl was right for once.


‘That’s the most intelligent thing you have said in a long while!’ Matt sarcastically said.

Carl looked at him and huffed.

‘Thanks, I didn’t hear you too come out with anything positive about the whole situation, did you?’

Jimmy grinned, Carl was right again, Matthew hated others getting one over him, hence his quick attack on their kid brother. Matt, in the meantime, gave Carl a forced smile as if to say ‘Shut up!’

‘Ok, shall we go tell Dad, what we’ve decided, er, I take it we have accepted Katie into the fold?’ Jimmy asked them.

Matthew and Carl looked at one another and then Matthew said:

‘Yeah, on both counts!’

‘But let’s finish our drinks first!’ Carl chipped in.

‘I hope she is going to be Ok to know, it’s going to be strange to now have a ‘sister’!’ Jimmy considered.

‘I’m sure we will be fine with her, she shouldn’t be too hard to get to know or get along with, like we have already said, we know she comes from good stock, so I can’t see it being a problem’ Matthew replied, ‘And instead of being 4 brothers, there’s going to be a sister now too, no big deal!’

The other two agreed with that statement. After they finished their drinks, they headed back to Holdgate to inform their Dad on what they had decided. Tom held his breath as his sons revealed their decision to him.

‘We’ve decided it should be Ok having a new sister around, after all she’s a part of Cathy, so that should say everything!’ Jimmy told him on behalf of all of them.

‘It’ll just be strange having a ‘new kid sister’ instead of being 4 boys that’s all! Carl put in.

‘But no doubt we’ll get used to it, like we have already said, her being a part of Cathy says a lot about her!’ Matt completed.

They all looked at Tom’s face for an expression, including Sadie, and wondered what he was going to say. All of a sudden he spoke.

‘Well, I’m really pleased that you’ve come to that decision because she does want to meet you and get to know us all, and I want that too, and also to get to know her too, after all she is one of us!

With that he gave a huge grin and said:

‘I’ve got a daughter!’

Chapter 10 next
Katie tells her mum all about her eventful meeting at her Dad’s and how good it was to finally meet him.

And how will the meeting between her and her new family go?
