Matthew was sat in his living room once again. He was holding an ice pack to his right eye where Jimmy had hit him. As well as a black eye he also had a cut and swollen lip and a big bruise had formed across his face. There was a knock on the door, which continued to get loader. Matthew got up and answered it, still holding the ice pack to his face.

Matthew: What now?

His speech was a bit slurred because of his cut and swollen lip.
Carl stormed into Victoria Cottage without answering Matthew.

Matthew: Hey!
Carl: What's the matter with you?
Matthew: He started it!
Carl: You hit him first!
Matthew: He deserves all he gets as far as I'm concerned.
Carl: You're unbelievable! You know I hate to say this but I think I miss the old Matt.
Matthew: You know, I bet you haven't gone over there and given him an earful.
Carl: I wanted to speak to you first.
Matthew: I'm touched. What does it matter what I'm going to say, you'll take his side anyway.
Carl: I'm trying to keep this family together. I want Dad to come back and see that everything is OK. Or I want him to see that it's me who's sorted everything out. Him to see that I'm not the screw-up, for a change.
Matthew: That'll never happen Carl!
Carl: Just get your act together. And do it quickly!
Matthew: Look, leave me alone!

Carl walks to the door and opens it, where he is faced by the familiar face of Nikki.

Carl: What do you want? You're not wanted!
Nikki: And I thought you were the nice one.
Carl: I'm not nice to people who betray either of my brothers, or in your case, both.
Nikki: You said yourself that you didn't always get on with Matt.
Carl: It doesn't mean I don't care when he gets hurt.
Nikki: I've just come to pick up some of my things.

Matthew appears in the doorway behind Carl.

Matthew: What do you want?
Nikki: To pick up my things.
Matthew: Carl, let her in. I'll speak to you later.

Carl walks out of the door after giving Nikki a final dirty look. Nikki walks into Victoria Cottage.

Nikki: What happened to you?

She noticed Matthew holding the ice pack, which he had removed from his face and was down at his side.

Matthew: I got into a bit of a fight with Jimmy.
Nikki: Just make it up with him. I presume you've fallen out, looking at the state of you.
Matthew: Why? Because he's my brother. So what.

Nikki sighs.

Matthew: Anyway, how have you been?
Nikki: Fine. Considering.
Matthew: Are you back with Andrew?
Nikki: You must be joking! No, I'm living with my parents.
Matthew: What about your daughter?
Nikki: She's with Andrew at the moment. We've come to an arrangement where we share access, doing it out of the courts.
Matthew: So you're getting divorced?
Nikki: Yep.
Matthew: I've been thinking about you.
Nikki: I've been thinking about you too. I've missed you. Your face looks really bad. You should get someone to take a look at it.

Matthew touches his eye gently and you can tell he is in some pain.
Nikki goes to walk upstairs.

Matthew: Come back.

Nikki turns around.

Nikki: What?
Matthew: Come back. I love you. I've missed you.
Nikki: I have to go back home and sort out the divorce.
Matthew: This is your home. Here with me. I'll pay for the divorce.
Nikki: What about Amanda? I've just come to an arrangement with Andrew.
Matthew: Fight for custody. That's if you want her. She can live here.
Nikki: I don't think you'd like a little girl around the house.
Matthew: I'd get used to it. I'm great with kids. I look after me dad's wife's son a bit. Besides, I'll prove everyone wrong and show them that nothing can put me off you. Look, it's your choice. Please.
Nikki: I dunno. I'll have to think about it. There are so many factors getting in the way. Yes.

She goes up to him and they kiss eachother.

Matthew: We can make this work.

They smile at eachother and they kiss passionately.

I been meaning to comment on this for a while but I have never got around tond to it. I would like to say I think it is brilliant, the King Family are obviously a good base for fan fiction there are so many aspects to them. Keep it up I can't wait to read more.

Jimmy was sat in the lounge of Home Farm with a whisky in his hand. He looked much worse than Matthew, with cuts and bruises all over his face. There was a knock on the door. Jimmy got up and answered it and Carl just storms in.

Jimmy: Oh yes. Come in Carl!
Carl: Shut up for a minute!

They both walked into the lounge.

Carl: You should het some ice on that.
Jimmy: It's OK. I'll be fine.
Carl: What's the matter with you both?
Jimmy: It's him with the problem. He's the physco!
Carl: You started it! I heard you. Winding him up! You do know how to provoke him don't you!
Jimmy: Years of practice.
Carl: This is no laughing matter Jim.
Jimmy: It's not my fault. He's acting pathetic!
Carl: You were the same when you got divorced. You're so hypecritical!
Jimmy: Yeah. Sadie was my wife. Nikki probably won't come back.
Carl: I wouldn't count on that. She turned up just as I was leaving Matt's.
Jimmy: What?
Carl: I don't think she back perminantly. She said she had to pick up some things.

Jimmy walks towards the door.

Carl: Where are you going?
Jimmy: I've got to see her.
Carl: Why?
Jimmy: I just have.
Carl: Leave it. There's no need to.

Carl grabs hold of Jimmy. Jimmy starts crying.

Jimmy: I've messed everything up. My marriage. My life.
Carl: No you haven't. Everything will be fine.

Carl hugs Jimmy with Jimmy still crying on Carls shoulder.

Back at Victoria Cottage Matthew and Nikki were hugging on the sofa. Nikki got up.

Matthew: Where are you going?
Nikki: Nothing.

She goes to the freezer and gets out a new ice pack.

Matthew: I don't need it.
Nikki: Yes you do. Look at the state of you.

She holds the face pack up to Matthew's eye. Matthew grimaces a little.

Nikki: Baby.
Matthew: It hurts!
Nikki: I bet it doesn't.

Matthew just looks at her.

Matthew: You spoil me you do.
Nikki: No I don't. I just love you.
Matthew: I love you too.

Nikki smiles at Matthew and he attempts to smile back.

Matthew: When are you gonna pick your things up?
Nikki: In a minute. Can't hang around.
Matthew: Do you want me to come?
Nikki: If you want. It means I won't have to spend a fortune on taxi fares!
Matthew: Come on then.

They both get up and walk out of the door. They get to Matthew's car and enter.

Matthew: I'd better not see Andrew.
Nikki: Leave it!
Matthew: What about Amanda?
Nikki: Your choice. I can't just take her. I wasn't even going to go back to her a couple of months ago.

Matthew starts the engine.

Matthew: Well she is your daughter.
Nikki: And Andrew's. I'll need a good lawyer.
Matthew: I'll pay for it. I only know the best!
Nikki: Are we moving?
Matthew: So, how do you get there?
Nikki: I'll tell you.
Matthew: So?
Nikki: What?
Matthew: What about Amanda?
Nikki: Lets see what my parents say.
Matthew: I'm meeting the parents?
Nikki: Yeah. I wouldn't worry too much. It isn't their life to control, it's mine.
Matthew: There had better not be any arguments. I've just got into one, I wouldn't want to be involved in another!

Matthew's car speeds of out of the village.

It was the following morning. Carl was outside Victoria Cottage, banging on the door. Edna was walking past, giving Tootsie her morning walk.

Carl: Matt! Matt!
Edna: Do you have to make such a racket this early in the morning? Your family like to make a disturbance, don't they?
Carl: I'm looking for my brother. You haven't seen him have you?
Edna: No I have not! I had better not see either of your brothers after last night!
Carl: I apologiesed didn't I?
Edna: That isn't the point. Why were they brawling in public anyway?
Carl: It's a long story. Just tell em if you see Matt. Please.
Edna: Why? He obviously doesn't want to speak to anyone. Anymore disturbance from you boy and I'll call the police.

Carl just looks at Edna. He walks off into Dale View whilst Edna continues her walk.

Matthew and Nikki were in a wuiet road in Matthews car. It was obvious that they had slept in there that night. They wre just looking at eachother and smiling.

Matthew: Shall we go in then?
Nikki: Yeah. Lets go.

They both got out of the car and walked up the pathway to the house opposite. Nikki knocked on the door. There was no answer. Nikki knocked again. A woman answered the door. She was still in her dressing gown and looked as if she had just got out of bed.

Woman: Nikki!

She holds out her arms and gives Nikki a cuddle.

Nikki: Hi mum!
Woman: Who's this?
Nikki: Mum this is Matthew. Matthew, this is my mum Sandra.
Matthew: Pleased to meet you.

Matthew holds out his hand to shake Sandrea's but she declined. Matthew takes his hand back and puts it in his pocket.

Sandra: What's he doing here?
Nikki: We've come to pick my things up. I'm moving in with Matthew, perminantly.
Sandra: Why? What about Amanda? You can't. You're married.
Nikki: I'm getting divorced. And you ask why? Because I love Matt. I don't care about Andrew.
Sandra: He's your husband!
Matthew: If you don't mind me saying, Nikki is a grown woman and can make her own choices.

Sandra looks at Matthew, which gives Matthew the sign to shut up.

Nikki: Amanda's coming with us.
Sandra: Andrew is her father and you will be taking her away from us too!
Nikki: It isn't like you can't see her.
Sandra: Andrew hasn't brought her back yet, so you'll just have to wait.
Nikki: Fine. I've got to sort my things out anyway.

Nikki and Matthew walk into the house and upstairs. They enter what appears to be Nikki's room.

Matthew: Your mum's a bit harsh.
Nikki: She just cares. She really likes Andrew. God know's why.
Matthew: At least you still have your parents. My mum died when I was a teenager and now me dad doesn't care, know he has a new wife.
Nikki: Your dad loves you. He had to bring up four boys without the help of his wife.
Matthew: Yeah well, it was the final straw when he let Jimmy look after the business.
Nikki: Just forget about it. You can patch thngs up with your family after.

They start getting Nikki's things together, when there is a knock on the door. They both hear the door open. Nikki walks out to the hallway and sees Andrew.

Andrew: Hey sweetheart!
Nikki: Don't you dare call me that!
Andrew: Why? I am your husband.

Matthew walks up behind Nikki and puts his arm around her. Andrews face drops and he suddenly looks scared.

Andrew: What's going on?
Nikki: I'm moving in with Matthew. Is there a problem with that? Not that you could do anything about it if you wanted to.
Matthew: We decided to give things another go, seeing as we have a special relationship and love eachother.
Andrew: What about Amanda? Are you leaving her too?
Nikki: Don't be silly. She's my daughter. She's coming with us.
Andrew: You can't! She belongs here!
Nikki: Sorry but she belongs with me.

Andrew looks like his world has collapsed around him.

Andrew: I'll fight for custody.

Nikki laughs.

Nikki: Go ahead. Who do you think the court will see fit for her to be with? You, who is a bit of a party animal and irresposible. Or me, with a solid home and decent money and a boyfriend who cares.
Andrew: You can't right away!
Nikki: I won't take her now. I'm not that mean! I'll be taking her in two weeks.

Nikki and Matthew walk downstairs and Nikki takes Amanda away from Andrew.

Nikki: Hey darling! I've missed you. This is Matt. We're going to live with him.

Matthew looks at Andrew and gives him a sly grin. Nikki goes back upstairs with Amanda and finishes her packing. Andrew walks out of the door and Matthew follows him.

Matthew: Hey!

Andrew turns around.

Andrew: What?
Matthew: Remember that little warning I gave you. That still stands.
Andrew: You won. You've got Nikki and my daughter. You have taken my family away from me and now you want to rub it in.
Matthew: No. This is another little warning. You try and win Nikki back or take Amanda, well, lets just say you'll live to regret it. Or not.

Andrew looks at Matthew with terror upon his face.

Andrew: You're mad! This is my family and I'll do what I like!
Matthew: OK then. You do what you like. I'll give you a taster of what you'd be letting yourself in for.

Matthew stikes Andrew in the stomach, which winds him. Matthew then punches him in the face.

Matthew: Just showing you what I can do.

He holds out his hand to help Andrew up.
Matthew then walks back into the house with a big grin upon his face, whilst Andrew is standing in the middle of the pavement, holding his stomach.

It was that afternoon and Carl was walking down the village with Chas on his arm. Viv approaches Carl with an estatic smile on her face.

Viv: So, what's this between your brothers?
Carl: None of your business.
Viv: It is when I witnessed a fight between the two of them in the pub. I know Matthew is still upset about Nikki being married but that has nothing to do with Jimmy does it?
Carl: It's family business. That means it is between us Kings and Chas, no-one else. Actually, you haven't seen Matt today have you?
Viv: Why? Has he gone away? Couldn't stand it?
Chas: You! Keep your nose out!
Viv: Well I haven't seen him. Oh wait, yes I have.
Carl: Where?
Viv: Right there.

She points across the road as Matthews car pulls up outside Victoria Cottage. Matthew and Nikki get out of the car together and walk to Victoria Cottage.

Carl: I don't believe it.
Chas: Oh my God!

Viv's happiness gets the better of her.

Viv: She back!
Chas: Shut it you! Lets see whats going on.
Carl: No. I'm going back home.
Chas: What about the pub?
Carl: I'll go later. Don't be late.

Carl kisses Chas and walks of to Dale View. Chas and Viv walk to the pub, with Viv almost running.
They enter the pub and Viv goes over and starts speaking to Diane, Donna and Edna.

Viv: You'll never guess what. She's back! She's back! That married one is back. I've seen her with Matthew King!
Diane: Don't be stupid Viv! Matthew isn't that thick to let her back into his home.
Viv: I've just seen it with my own eyes! Carl wasn't very happy, I can tell you.
Edna: You know, he wasn't in this morning. I thought it was because of last night. Maybe Viv's right.
Viv: Of course I am! When have you ever known of me to lie? If you don't believe me just ask Chas.
Diane: Chas love.

Chas walks over to the gang.

Chas: Yeah.
Diane: Viv says that Nikki is back with Matthew. Apparently you saw.
Chas: Well, I don't know if their back together but she was with him yeah.
Viv: See I told you!
Donna: That might just mean that she had to pick up some things.
Viv: Then why was she getting out of his cat?
Diane: Even if it is true, it's none of our business.
Chas: Quite.

Diane and Chas go over to serve customers whislt Viv and Donna are still talking about it.

Nikki was in the living room of Victoria Cottage looking around her and making herself feel at home. Matthew walks in carrying two suitcases.

Matthew: That's the last time I'm doing that!
Nikki: Stop complaining. I'm here now.

Matthew kneels down by Nikki and puts his arm around her.

Matthew: Yeah. And soon Amanda will be here and we will be like a family.
Nikki: Is that what you want?
Matthew: Of course it is. Why would I say it?
Nikki: I am worried though. I mean, you don't know Amanda.
Matthew: I will get to know her. I'll make sure I will. I'll take time off work and do the things a father does.

Nikki looks at him and bursts out laughing.

Matthew: What?
Nikki: Sorry babe. It's just I can't see you being a father. Not just yet anyway.
Matthew: Oh you! I am sensitive deep down you know! So stop taking the mickey or I might send you back.
Nikki: No you won't.
Matthew: You never know.

They kiss passionately. They head upstairs with them still kissing passionately. Nikki closes the bedroom door behind them.

It was later that evening and Nikki was walking down the stairs with Matthhew following and putting his shirt on. Matthew put his arm around Nikki and kissed her on the cheek.

Matthew: So do you wanna go to the pub?
Nikki: Yeah. Why not.
Matthew: You sure you're up to it?
Nikki: Why wouldn't I be?
Matthew: Well, you and I have been suject to some gossip lately...
Nikki: I can handle that.

Matthew smiles at Nikki.

Nikki: What?
Matthew: I can't believe this has happened. I mean we're here, together.
Nikki: I know. It's mad. Are we going?
Matthew: Yeah. I've just gotta go to the office. Bit of business.
Nikki: Can't it wait till tomorrow?
Matthew: 'Fraid not. I'll meet you back here in about twenty minutes.
Nikki: Don't be too long.

Matthew kisses Nikki and walks out of the door and across the road to King and Sons offices. He enters and picks up the phone.

Matthew: Dean... It's Matthew King here... I'm fine... Look I've got a little job for you... Lets talk tomorrow... Midday at the yard.

Matthew puts the phone down and a smug smile appears across his face.

The Woolpack was buzzing with gossip, mainly the return of Nikki. Louise was talking to Viv.

Louise: I don't think she's back for good. Matthew won't want to be with a married woman.
Viv: I saw her. She's back. I saw the look on that Matthew's face.
Louise: He may have been glad to be getting rid of her.
Viv: No...

The door opened and in walked Matthew and Nikki hand in hand. There was a hushed silence that had fallen across the pub. Matthew and Nikki went to the bar.

Viv: See, I told you!
Matthew (to Louise): A pint and a vodka please. Oh, and a bottle of champagne!
Louise: Coming up.

Matthew and Nikki looked around the pub, all eyes fixated on them.

Nikki: Is something the matter?

There was still silence.

Matthew: They might just be shocked to see you love!
Nikki: Well I don't see why. They all know we love eachother.
Matthew: Well they found out you were married. I bit shocked to see you back with me, seeing as you have a husband.

Matthew laughs. They both look around them again.

Nikki: Ladies and gentlemen of Emmerdale. We have an announcement. I have moved back in with Matthew.
Viv: Is it true you have a child?
Matthew: What has that gotta do with you?!
Nikki: It is true that I am both married and have a daughter but I'm getting divorced.
Matthew: And Nikki's daughter is coming to live with us. So, I guess you'll all wanna have a bit of a gossip about that. Cheers!

Matthew smiles and raises his glass to the whole of the pub sarcastically. There was still silence around the pub. The heavy doors opened and in walked Jimmy and Carl. Matthew and Nikki looked over at them. Jimmy's face dropped and Carl had a look of hatred across his. Everyone turned around and looked at them.

Matthew: Hey brothers! Fancy a glass of champagne?
Carl: What the hell are you doing here?
Nikki: We've just been telling this lot. We're moving back in with eachother.
Jimmy: Bitch!

Jimmy stormed out of the pub.

Carl: See! Now look what you've done!
Matthew: It's not our fault he's a bit loopy!
Carl: Are you dead set on breaking this family up?
Matthew: Hey! Look who's talking! You seemed to have done a rather good job before dad went away.

Nikki walks out of the pub.

Matthew: Nikki!

Nikki didn't turn back. She walked outside and caught up with Jimmy.

Nikki: Jimmy!
Jimmy: What? Shouldn't you be back in there with you're you're boyfriend, celebrating?
Nikki: I've been meaning to talk to you. Please.
Jimmy: What is there to talk about?
Nikki: You and Matthew...
Jimmy: I don't want anything to do with him! Look at what he did to me!

Jimmy pointed at his face, which was still rather swollen and bruised.

Nikki: He's your brother!
Jimmy: No he isn't.
Nikki: Why are you acting like this? You said it didn't mean anything. I mean how could it? It was a drunken mistake.
Jimmy: Maybe it was. Maybe it wasn't.
Nikki: Lets talk.

Matthew appeared outside and was walking towards Nikki and Jimmy.

Matthew: Nikki!
Jimmy: Looks like you're wanted! See you around.

Jimmy gets into his car and speeds off down the road.

Matthew: Why were you talking to him?
Nikki: Trying to put things right.
Matthew: No need. He doesn't want to make it up just yet and I most certainly don't!
Nikki: This isn't his fault! He hasn't done anything wrong.
Matthew: Apart from sleeping with my girlfriend. Then winding me up. Then saying I was pathetic. Then beating me up in public and you say he hasn't done anything wrong!
Nikki: I caused all this so I should put it right.
Matthew: Like I said, there's no need to. Alright, if it makes you happy then I'll try speaking to him.
Nikki: Now.
Matthew: I was thinking later in the week!
Nikki: Whats stopping you now? He's free. We can celebrate any other time.
Matthew: Fine.

Him and Nikki walk across the road and Matthew gets in his car.

Nikki: Good luck! I'll be back home.
Matthew: If I get another beating this time I will blame it on you!

They kiss and Matthew goes off down the road.
