Chas and Carl both stood for a few seconds none of them knowing what to say,Thomas was still standing sobbing as he knew now his dad was definitely not going to let this drop, after a pause Carl asked why did you not tell me , as he pulled Thomas into his chest with a reassuring grip, come on son tell me whats going on who has done this to you, I don't know dad Thomas replied , Chas , Carl said bring Anya in we will see what she has to say, Carl let go of Thomas although he was still sobbing, he took him by the elbows, look lad he said you say I can make it worse, how worse can it get look at you, whoever is responsible for this needs punishing, so are you going to tell me or do I ask Anya, Thomas kept silent as Anya walked into the room , Well sweet heart do you know what has happened to Thomas , Yes Anya sobbed , all the kids in school call us names and they hit Thomas and kick him,OK Carl replied what are the names you get called, they say mum hates us and she wants us to die , and they say mums a witch and am one too, and they told Thomas they was going to get me if he told of them, Anya lip started shaking , as she envisaged what would happen to her now that Carl had found out. Chas took hold of Anya in her arms, its OK sweetheart Chas said no one will hurt you I promise .

Matthew and Jimmy walked through the door, they had got back late from a business meeting and agreed Carl didn't have to go as long as he sorted tea out for when they got back which the did.and was left in the microwave.
Whats for tea Matthew said as he barged through the kitchen door followed by Jimmy , What the hell has happened to him Matt said as he looked over the room at Thomas clearly embarrassed , Right Thomas go and dressed come on we can talk in abit , Thomas quickly put his shirt on and sheepishly walked out the room with Chas and Anya, Care to explain Matthew asked , Yeah hes getting bullied, Thousands I pay for that school Carl ranted what for to have my kids used as a football and a bunch bag, Honestly he continued you would think with all the money I pay they would have someone making sure this sort of thing never happened, Well in all the years I went to comprehensive school I never seen a beating that bad Jimmy replied, maybe they would be better off in an ordinary school. Well the school best have answers tomorrow Carl replied because am not sending him back until its sorted, so did he say who it was Jimmy asked , no Carl replied just that they were skiting his mum saying things about Colleen wanting to kill him , he wont tell me the names .
He needs to toughen up Carl thats whats wrong with him Carl hes a wimp like his dad send him to boxing or something you wrap him up an cotton wool to much, Am telling you Carl hes a prime target for bullies, oh like me you mean Carl snapped takes after his dad is that what it is ,Well let me tell you this Matt I would hate him to be a big bully like you so just lay of him OK.because your bullying days are over, OK calm down I was joking, Matt snapped back , Matthew my son has been beet black and blue and you think I want to joke, Carl said walking out the door into the living room to Chas and the kids. Carl sat next to Thomas , dont worry son we will sort it out he said as he put his arm round him.

Matthew and Jimmy where eating in the kitchen , while everyone else was watching TV in the living room, Did you see how many bruises he had then Jimmy asked Matt yeah Matt replied, he should see a doctor Jimmy said as Matt sat eating like he never cared, Oh he'll be OK if he was that bad we would have known about it before now Matt replied, Am just abit worried Carl usually leaves things to late am going in to have a good look, come on Matt, lets see it can't harm us just to make sure hes OK can it, Matthew rolled his eyes , your just as bad as him Matt said a pair of fairy's you two are.

In the living room Chas had noticed Thomas looked pale , and quickly told Carl who was still trying to pump information out of him, when was the last time the his you Carl asked, I don't know Thomas said , still not wanting to say to much, Today Anya jumped in the they got him today, because demi's brother told me , he said no one like you two and he said Thomas is going to get jumped again,Thomas is this true Carl asked, Thomas still stayed quiet but Chas noticed he was a bit weirery looking, Carl I think It would be best if we called a doctor Chas said, as Jimmy and Matthew walked in. I agree Jimmy said as Matt sat on the arm of the couch next to where Thomas was sitting ,
Still feeling rough mate ,Matt said roughing Thomas's hair, Mind if me and Jimmy have a quick look see if your OK. Carl was thankful for another opinion and quickly encouraged Thomas to show Matthew and Jimmy his body. Come on son lets see what they think , I can't dad Thomas cried, it hurts to much as he stood up and tried to open his shirt, dad it hurts me more know Thomas said as he was struggling , Carl took hold of him to help but as he took hold Carl felt Thomas weaken and fall into his arms , WOOOOOOOOW Carl , shouted catching him in his arms as Carl picked him up he realized Thomas had passed out, They all looked at each other in a panic , Chas Carl shouted get the Car, quick, No Matt said ill get the Car you stay here with Anya , Just hurry up Carl screamed, Here use Carl's car theres more room , K
Jimmy said throwing Matt Carl's keys,
In the car , Carl was sat in the back with Thomas and Jimmy While Matt drove, What the hell have I done to deserve this Carl was crying as he cradled Thomas in his arms , I cant believe this is happening again , he'll be OK Jimmy tried to reassure Carl but it was not working, Come on son wake up Carl was pleading with Thomas , ome on wake up,Thomas woke up a couple of times but he kept passing out again and Carl was getting more and more panaky, Carl will you calm down Matt shouted at Carl Am trying to drive here, I cant they've hurt him Matt thieve hurt Thomas. Jimmy will you Calm him down am driving I don't know why you came , Carl , hes fine hes passing out because of he pain thats all he has had that pain all day his body wants a rest Jimmy reassured Carl,

Matt pulled up outside the hospital and, and Carl and Jimmy jumped out as Matt went to park the Car,
Someone help me Someone help Carl shouted as he barged into casualty with Thomas limp in his arms, My son needs help he screamed as two nurses came running toward him. Its OK one nurse said as she took Thomas from Carl and placed him on A trolley can you give his details while We sort him out, Thomas was wheeled straight into resuss, and the Dr's seen to him right away

All three brothers had been waiting around half an hour when the police arrived at the hospital, Mr King a police man said as Carl stood up waiting for news of Thomas , Yeah thats me , he said shocked to see the police man standing there and not a medic, We have been informed by the hospital your son has took rather a severe beating we need to ask you questions if thats alright, Yes of course Carl replied as he walked toward the family room where the police had led him to.

Can you tell us whats happened the police asked, well All I know is what I found out tonight , Carl explained about him getting bullied and that Anya had been threatened too and to Carl's surprise they seemed to believe Carl but deep down all Carl was worried about was Thomas, We will visit the school tomorrow and we may need to talk to your daughter the police said , Yeah if you have to Carl said , Still waiting on news of Thomas.

Meanwhile outside Matthew had phoned inspector Vaughn , What the hell is going on Matt asked on the phone the kid has took a pasting of some school bullies and their questioning Carl he said, Matt they are doing their job thats all there there to find out whats gone on , We all know he hasn't done nothing stop worrying, well we have more to do Charles , Matt replied ,Carl is in pieces here am telling you , you had best sort this out don't leave it to me , because kids or not their not getting away with this, His bloody mother Matt said without thinking you want to go and question her she seems to be behind every think else thats gone on around here, as he said that Carl was walking up to them and hared, Shut up Matt she wouldn't get him hurt , hes her son , Carl , Matt said will you wake up and stop defending her OK she might not be involved but they questioned you , shes the one who threatened his life, honestly Carl I don't know how you can keep defending her, She's their mum Matt and they love her, thats why , Come on you two leave it out Jimmy interrupted we cant just keep arguing like this , not while Thomas is still ill.

Mr king a nurse called all three turned as if she was talking to all of them, there is a family room you can wait in come this way, erm I know Carl said I just been in here, but the nurse still led the way without saying much and not acknowledging them much either, erm excuse me Matt said you got a problem , Matt leave it Carl said , No I wont Matt replied she is looking at us like scum and I want to know why, Dr will be in in a minute she said rather abruptly witch even stunned Jimmy, hey before you go Matt said ,the nurse turned round and faced Matt , with a stern look on her face , just so you know that lad has not been touched by anyone in this room OK . The nurse let the room and the brothers all looked at one another in shock at the fact people where blaming them.

Hello Mr king the Dr said as he walked through the door not knowing which one he should be talking to, Car stood up and shook his hand, Yes Dr Carl said is he OK whats wrong Carl said anxiously, Thomas has an internal bleed he said we need to take him to theater it was most likely coursed by a cracked rib which has cut into his lung he needs surgery to stop the bleeding as soon as possible, will he be OK Carl asked, as long as we get him to surgery as soon as possible his chances will be good , OK Carl replied as the Dr left the room and Carl sank in a chair with his head in his hands, Jesus Carl said this god of ours how much does he want me to take , all this bad luck its killing me , I don't know how much more of this I can handle, Come on Carl it will be OK you heard the Dr he'ii be fine, Oh shut up Matt Carl said your a hypocrite , what Matt replied, Still think hes a wimp Matt hey, do yeah ,well thees my little wimp lying on a operating table and why because he would rather take a beating than tell me because his sister was getting threatened, you know what Matt I wish he was a wimp , because if he told someone instead of being so brave like you want him to be , He might be home in bed instead of fighting for his life on an operating table, but thats OK to you isn't it Matt Carl continued its probably made you feel so proud of him he done it for his sister, Yeah it has Matt replied, and you cant say you don't feel proud come on Carl you must do, What Carl screamed at Matt proud I have no time for feelings like that apart from being scared of losing my son I feel ashamed of myself for not realizing what was going on and him not being able to speak to me about it.

Jimmy just stood and listened he knew Carl was right but he never knew what to say to him , Jimmy loved having the kids there and this was breaking his heart too, he knew Carl and Matt had their differences so he knew he had to be there for Carl because although he knew Matt did care , he knew Carl never thought he did, perhaps he would try to talk to Matt he thought try to stop all the winding up and get them to stop all the bickering , god he thought someone has to do it.

Silence had spread across the room for about 10 minutes when Carl's phone rang, its Chas , Carl said teiry eyed, Jimmy Will you explain I cant handle it, Jimmy left the room to talk to Chas , and left Carl and Matt together in the room, again silence was spread across the room, to them Jimmy was an age, Chas must be making him Tell every detail Matt said, Yeah well Carl said really she should be here, shes been here for him for months now, so she deserves to know as much as anyone, so don't start on her because I want listen Matt OK,Carl Matt said I never meant anything to be honest mate I actually like, sorry I love Chas what she did for you was nothing short of amazing, And yeah I was wrong about Thomas and you know I always loved the kids , Come on mate you know me Ionly wind you up for a laugh , Whatever Carl said as quietness once again spread across the room,

Jimmy walked in the room , so Carl said she OK, she wants to be here , Jimmy looked at Carl its only fare mate she should be here she has looked after him now a while, I know Jim I just said that to Matt , So I said me and Matt would go home to Anya and she could come down , Yeah that would be great, Both Matt and Jimmy stood up to leave Wat about school Jimmy asked erm no way Carl said she ain't going back there, I will try to get back so You can go to work Carl said, No its OK Matt replied we can manage am sure , we can give her your laptop in the office Carl theres only games on it any way, Carl looked up and Smiled at Matt. Matt walked over to Carl as he was putting his jacket on ,I do care mate he said as he shook him on the shoulder as he walked past, I know Carl said as they walked out the door and Left Carl to wait for Chas and news of Thomas.

It was 3am in the morning and Carl and Chas were still in the relatives room , Half asleep they where both startled as the surgeon walked in,both Carl and Chas jumped up quickly responding to the sound of the door opening, Holding Chas's hand he spoke, Well, well Carl said fearing what words was going to come from the surgeons mouth,Chas gripped him tighter as the surgeon began to speak. Mr king the surgeon said , am happy to say the operation was a was a success and Thomas should make a full recovery,Carl let out a sigh of relief as he looked at Chas and hugged her, letting go a moment later to thank the surgeon for his good work.Thank you , Carl said shaking the surgeons hand , its always nice when we have good news the surgeon replied , Yeah Carl said still looking elated, Can we see him Chas butted in, yes the surgeon replied but not for long he has been through big ordeal and he needs all the rest he can get, you should remember when you see him he has had a major operation so there are tubes and drips that will be removed as soon as Thomas regains conscious, OK Carl said following the surgeon to a nurse who led them to the intensive care ward, Even though the Dr warned them how he might look Carl couldn't help but cry when he saw Thomas with wires coming from him , As Chas held him as he looked down on Thomas , he quickly remembered her lying there like that, You know what he said to Chas , am glad I have you next to me last time I felt so alone , When you was lying there, having someone with me has made it so much easier, Chas just smiled at Carl, Your a good dad Chas said, Oh yeah great I am Carl replied stroking Thoma-s's hair , the dad he can't come to with his problems , thats how good I am Chas, He must be terrified of me Chas to go through all that and not say a word, and me not thinking what was going on , It was me too Carl I should have known too.Well he wont keep anything else from me we have to make sure of that we sit them down from now on ask about school and stuff, Chas was quite pleased he actually said we instead of I he never usually acknowledged Chas when he spoke of his kids they were always his kids, now she felt he was letting her share them and she liked that.
Come on now the nurse said Thomas needs his rest, and you two look like you could do with a good nights sleep too.What do you mean he needs his rest Chas said, in her Chas like way, hes asleep What difference does it make, His brain is still going listening to your voices and he needs a rest, come on now you two need your sleep as well , we may well wake him when you come back, OK Carl said leaning over kissing Thomas's head see you later son he said as he stroked his face, bye mate Chas said kissing his cheek whilst still holding Carl's hand.

It was 4am by the time they got home, and everyone was asleep Carl and Chas went straight to bed and waited until later to let everyone know Thomas was going to be fine, At 7am Anya came running in daddy she said jumping on Chas and Carl's bed, Hello face ache Carl said waking up. where is Thomas gone daddy hes nit in his bed, I know sweet heart we had to leave him in hospital so the Dr's can make him better, Come on go out so I can get dressed and you can come with me if you like, what about school daddy , You don't need to go today Carl replied you can go and see Thomas in hospital instead, Anya left the room as Chas sat up
do you think thats a good idea Carl it was bad enough us watching Thomas without Anya seeing it as well, I never really thought of that Come on I will have to tell her she cant go, they Both got up and got dressed,

When they got down stairs, Matt and Jimmy where already up and Anya was eating cereal, So come on Jimmy said whats happening , hes OK Carl said he was asleep and connected to machines but they reckon that he will be taken of all that today they said the opp went good so am going back in a bit, Be there when he wakes up. Erm do you know someone thinks their going with you Matt said, Yeah I know I wasn't thinking I'll have a word with her she can come tonight, Shes best with us Jimmy said and the police will want a word too Carl said so if am not there tell them to come back please shes not to talk to them without me she got upset last time she'll want me there, Carl , Chas said she was missing her mum Carl she will be fine now you know she is different now , look Carl snapped she says nothing without me and thats final if they don't like it tell them to phone me, OK Chas said, so anyway Carl, Jimmy said don't you think Colleen has a right to know,No I'm don't so no snidey phone call Jim I mean it if the police get in touch thats up to them but were not OK ,Jimmy looked at Carl disapprovingly, What Carl said , you think am wrong , the kids love her bla bla bla, well its about time they know the real truth all we told them is small pieces, because Jimmy , Matt's right, she done all this, she doesn't deserve them, Thomas is in hospital because some one has let this spread round the school, so who do you think has done that Jim we haven't and nobody around here knows their school so it can only have come from her someone she knows who has said something, The penny finally drops Matt said , yeah it has and you know what else, I want her completely out of their lives , am fed up telling them she loves them, when I haven't seen any sign at all, so soon as Thomas is better am going to a solicitor, I want full custody and am not stopping until she has gone out of their lives for ever, Carl your being harsh Jimmy said, No am not Jim if this was me do you think she would do anything different , Jimmy just looked at him , is that a no Jim she wouldn't and you know what she would have wanted money for the rest of their lives of me I want nothing of her just her to leave us alone , so no warning calls Jim I know you have a soft spot, but if you care don't get involved, Carl left the room to get ready for the hospital, and left Matt , Jimmy and Chas all looking shocked,About time he got real about that bitch Matt said, I was fed up with all this but she loves them rubbish, shes a bitch Jimmy pure and simple, Chas walked out to get ready with Carl, they were in the bedroom,You calmed down yet , Look he will be fine Carl , Chas i was serious what kind of mum does what she has done, am not changing my mind the courts will probably say she cant have them back any way now am not on her side, am not giving them up now I mean it Chas, thats why I want us to get married asap, because I want you to adopt them Chas I want you to be their mum, Chas just stood in shock.

Chas and Carl were both stood in their bedroom , Carl waiting for a response, Chas wondering if Carl was really serious about her adopting them , Car was getting worried about the amount of time it had took Chas to answer him, And as he spoke Chas could sense the disappointment in his voice,

Take it thats a no then Carl said as Chas was still in shock, Erm am just a bit shocked thats all Chas replied, Well then Carl quickly asked, Carl, Chas said you cant just go round adopting anyones kids you cant ask me to do that, so you wont then Carl replied, Its not that I wont Id love to but am not sure I will be able to, How would you of liked her to just ask her new boyfriend to adopt your kids Carl am not their mum Carl, Colleen is and I cant see her allowing it thats all. Well I never threatened them did I she did and to be honest Chas am past caring how she feels Thomas is in hospital because she has a big mouth and I don't want her near them ever again , so if your not with me thats up to you but am fighting her with or without you.
Carl stormed out the room leaving Chas stunned as the door slammed behind him. Chas carried on getting ready for the hospital and left Carl to sulk .

Where's Carl , Chas said as she got in the living room ,erm he went th hospital I think Matthew said, What Chas replied he went without me, yeah Jimmy replied he Just walked right past us and went, you two had words Jimmy replied, I don't know he just gets mad ideas thats all Chas said, he wants me to adopt the kids, and whats wrong with that Matt said, Its not like they will get their own mum back is it , Leave it Matt Jimmy replied, Oh come on Jimmy Carl's give up defending Colleen why cant you, she's going down and thats all there is to it Matt continued, I am not being the one to take kids of there mother Chas said and thats final I don't care if Carl don't like it I wont do it its horrible when your child calls someone else mum and am not doing it .Chas got her keys and put her coat on and set out to follow Carl .
As she walked into the ward she could see Thomas was still asleep and Carl was stroking his , She was sure he had been crying but she didn't want him to know she thought that .
How is he then Chas said as she approached Carl, they said he will be awake soon they took him off all the sleeping meds so he will wake when he is ready. Oh good Chas said,feeling awkward, You didn't have to come Carl said as Chas touched Thomas's face, I wont even answer that Chas replied not making eye contact.they paused for a while both unsure of the others thoughts, Carl , Chas said I have lost a son its hard , no I never done what Colleens done but hurts like hell to know Aaron thinks of another woman as his mother, and its kind of screwed him up a bit aswel, but I will still b their step mother and if you want to go for full custody, Carl interrupted ,I do, then I will support you ,and Yes Chas continued if that means bringing the wedding forward so we have a better chance then yes I would love to, Thats if you still want me Chas said teasingly, Carl looked up at Chas you know its what I want Carl replied.

Hello mate Carl said as Thomas opened his eyes , you feeling better now, no Thomas replied feeling the effects off the operation. Oh well Chas replied you will be feeling better soon it takes abit of time thats all, Carl sat Thomas up to make him more comfy and started quizzing Thomas about the people who had hurt him.

We need to find out who did this to you son Carl said so they don't do it again,but they will dad they always do , no they wont Carl replied you and Anya are not going back I know you wanted to go back there but its time you went to a school nearer to our home any way so you can tell me anything now and there wont be anyone waiting to get you, tears started welling up in Thoma's eye's as he looked at his dad, am scared dad . I know son but there's no need am not letting nothing happen to you any more. Carl hugged Thomas as the nurse walked over towards them, oh see your awake then she said as Thomas smiled back at her just realizing where he was, how did I get here dad he said to Carl, oh never mind that Carl said just lets get you better so we can take you home hey.

Mr king the nurse said the police have been in touch they need to interview Thomas , OK Carl said when will they be here, well as soon as they are informed he is awake really so they will be here soon.
Thomas had heard the conversation between the nurse and Carl and was looking worried. will you stay with me dad he said when I tell them, yes Thomas don't worry about it Carl replied, OK Thomas said his voice shaking , so do you want to tell me first or what Carl asked , yeah OK Thomas said , To late Chas interrupted their here, Dad am scared Thomas protested again, Its OK am here just tell the truth. the police walked over , familiar faces approached Carl , you lot again Carl said thought they would send someone that knew what they where doing Carl joked. No sorry mate us again the chief wants it treated as part of the original investigation and thats our case, plus your children know us now so they might open up more to us, OK Carl replied but how can you put a case of school bullying in with the murder of my father, well thats what we are here to find out so if you don't mind can we get on.

Carl watched as Thomas started telling all what happened lying shaking in his hospital bed with Car and Chas by his side giving him support Thomas start to reveal the names of the boys who where involved with attacking Thomas and to Carl's horror they found out that at least two of the boys where not even from his school and where alot older than Thomas but had hid in the grounds waiting for him ,Anger started welling up in Carl's stomach as he started to suspect the police were right this was not a matter of ordanary school bullying but Thomas had been targeted, Thomas told how the older boys would hold Thomas down and let the younger ones punch and kick him, he got warned not to say anything as they knew his mum and sister and they would be next, Thomas told the police the boys said they were getting revenge because his dad was a grass.

As Thomas gave the name of three boys who were in his school the police officer raised a eye brow, Joesph Taylor Thomas said when the police asked him to repeat what he said,he is in my class , he always bully's all the kids Thomas said he brings weapons into school and I think one of the older boys is his brother because he says our kid to him when he tells him to hit me, Thomas looked at his dad , he hit me with one of them big metal things that you put on your fingers and he sed he would hit Anya as well , They wanted me to get them some money, but I couldn't find none at home so they kept hitting me , Thomas started crying as he was reliving the terrible events that had took place the last few days of school, Carl and Chas were sitting watching in horror as the police wrote things down also in horror, OK son we have finished now you can relax now its OK , Carl grabbed Thomas and held him as the police stood up, we will be in touch is all they said as they went to leave. Tell me Chas you still think she deserves to be their mum , Chas just looked at him her face told Carl exactly what she thought, I know I need her approval Chas but no matter how much it costs me I want her gone out of their lives forever, with that Carl got up , there is some-think I need to do and he stormed out the hospital, Carl , Carl Chas called but she couldn't stop him, I will be back in the minute sweet heart Chas said to Thomas who was now wondering what was going on and sensing it had something to do with his mother, OK he said trying not to sob.

Outside Chas phoned pear tree where Jimmy and Matt would be by now , Edna was in the office complaining about the state of the village when the phone went, Jimmy took the call while Matt was seeing to Edna and Anya was sitting playing on Carl's laptop,
Matt Jimmy shouted we need to go , what were its Carl we need to go now sensing there was trouble Matt started putting his coat on , you don't mind looking after Anya for a while do you Edna Matt said she loves dogs and she likes gardening don't you Anya Matt said handing Anya her coat, what Edna said , Look nits an emergency Carl's son Thomas is in Hospital and we are needed there OK Edna said but I expect that rubbish to be sorted a.s.a.p. yes of course Jimmy replied it will be our priority they all left pear tree, So come on Jimmy said whats up, its Carl, Chas thinks he has gone to Colleens he is in a right temper he has just found out she has something to do with Thomas getting beet up we need to get to him before he does something stupid .We should leave him to teach her a lesson you meen Matt replied.Yeah well Jimmy said he does somthing daft he might lose rhe kids and she will have won then wont she they woulkd have a mum and a dad in nick that what you want Matt.
