Chas walked back home slowly. After she had had the baby she would definitely get a decent job. She put her hand on her tummy, wondering how different this pregnancy would be from the last one. Would Carl be the model parent and boyfriend? How was she going to tell him?
Carl walked down the path angrily. How could she do this to him? Maybe she was scared. Maybe she didn’t want another kid. Maybe she had… Carl stood stock still as the horrifying idea came to him. What if she’d had an abortion?
Chas was waiting for a bus back. A man walked towards her, shouting her name. She squinted, the wind whipping her hair out of her face. She could vaguely distinguish the handsome features she had admired in… who? She gulped as she recognised the man.
It was Cameron.
Cameron: Chas!
Chas: Hiya.
Cameron: I haven’t seen you in a while.
Chas: Yeah, well… you know how it is…
Cameron: Something up?
Chas: You could say that.
Cameron: What?
Chas: I’m in such a mess.
Cameron: Why? What’s happened?
Chas: (beginning to cry) Why does everything go wrong for me?
Cameron: (pulls her in for a hug) Hey, it can’t be anything that bad.
Chas: Yeah. It’s supposed to be one of the best things that ever happens to you.
Cameron: What do… you’re pregnant.
Chas: How stupid am I? I never…
Cameron: (harshly) Who’s the father?
Chas: Carl.
Cameron: Carl King? How did you… you didn’t?
Chas: What do you think?
Cameron: Are you going to keep it?
Chas: ‘Course I’m gonna keep it. I need to go. See you around.
Cameron: You will. You can count on that.
Cameron watched her go. He sighed. Even now, he could feel that baby prickling his heart.
Chas wondered home.
Carl: Where the hell have you been?
Chas: I needed a walk. I need to tell you something.
Carl: Hmm, I wonder.
Chas looked at him, her eyes full of hurt at his icy tone.
Chas: If that’s how you feel, maybe I should bring up our baby in Ireland.
Carl: What do you mean?
Chas: I’m pregnant you muppet.
Carl: You… you… you’re…
Chas: P…R…E…G…N…A…N…T.
Carl felt happy tears fill his eyes. He was going to have a baby! What could bond Chas and him closer together than a baby?! He lifted Chas up hugging her, and crying at the same time. Chas rested her head on his shoulder with a genuine smile. It felt like they were the only two people in the world.

Carl was in the kitchen, making breakfast.
Matt: Oi! Carlos!
Carl: Yeah what?
Matt: Me and Jimbob are getting off now. Should we expect to be graced with your presence?
Carl: Nah, I’ve already messed up one deal, I’ll pass on the next.
Matt: Well don’t do anything I would do while I’m gone.
Carl: I wouldn’t dream of it.
Matt and Jimmy left and Carl felt freer. He turned the radio up and started singing along with Take That’s Rule The World.
Upstairs, Chas began to wake up. She smiled at Carl’s ‘singing’, and walked downstairs.
Chas: Going to the x factor auditions today?
Carl: Hey babe. How come you’re up?
Chas: I’m going to work aren’t I? You divvy.
Carl: You’re not going to work.
Chas: Uh, yeah I am.
Carl: You’re going to rest and take care of you and our baby.
Chas: What the hell?? I’m about 2 months, I don’t think so!
Carl: I do, now go up to bed or I’ll carry you up.
Chas: Do you lack a brain or something? I… am… going… to… work.
Carl: I don’t want anything to go wrong.
Chas: Well what am I going to do all day, sit there thinking which nappy brand we’re going to buy?
Carl: Haha. No, you can look in these for a house.
Chas: What’re you talking about/
Carl: We’re getting a house together.
Chas: Like hell.
Carl: Look for one with a few acres aswell, I want the best for us.
Chas: (laughs and outs her arms around him) Snobby git.
Carl: That’s out of order.
Chas: (cheekily) Oh yeah, what you gonna do about it?
Carl: Hmm…

Chas sighed as she sat on the floor against the bed, gazing bitterly out of the window. She didn't want a baby, what the hell was she doing? She was a useless mum. She knew she couldn't talk to Carl, he would just go and sulk and do his "Look, Chas, please," thing with the puppy dog eyes. Who could she talk to? She knew the answer already and it came to her effortlessly.
Cameron.
Chas was more attracted to Cameron than she was prepared to admit. But she didnt admit it.
Not to herself not to Carl, not to anyone. With all the shocks of the previous weeks, with Carl's suicide attempt, her feelings for Carl resurfacing, their reuniion and now, the baby, she had pushed all thought of Cameron to the back of her mind.
Now some of the momentary excitement of the prospect of being back with Carl were beginning to vanish. She didn't really care much about what Carl thought any more, and as she began to realise this and notice that her feelings for him were somewhat receding.

Chas: Carl? I'm going into Leeds to do some shopping, do you want anything?
Carl: Are sure you'll be OK? I don't you over doing it.
Chas: I'll be fine. Cya later.
Carl: I don't think you should go on your own.
Chas: I'm only going shopping.
Carl: Can you wait until Saturday so I can come with you?
Chas: No, I'm going now.
Carl: I don't approve.
Chas: I don't care.
(Chas goes to kiss him goodbye, but he pulls away)
Chas: FINE!
(Chas opens the door and leaves)
Carl: CHAS?!
Chas: What now?
Carl: You didn't kiss me goodbye!
Chas: You're nuts. Mwah! Bye!
Carl: See you later.

Cameron: Ohh here comes Lady Muck. There was me thinking I'd been stood up.
Chas: Stood up for what?
Cameron: We'll have to wait and see won't we?

A tall dark man stepped out of the taxi with a bag. He had a long fringe combed over his eyes - kind of emo-ish. He was wearing a black T-shirt and he had a cross on a chain that fell to his chest. He looked aroung the village and smirked. It was a massive difference to his home estate in Armagh in Ireland.
Man: OI!!
Alan: Yes?
Man: Where's Home Farm?
Alan: Well... it's... why are you looking for it?
Man: It's nothing to do with you fatty.
Alan: I beg your pardon?
Man: You heard. I wanna know Home Farm is.
Alan: Well, it's down that road, it's rather a long walk
Man: For old bags like you yeah. See you around.
Alan: (muttering) How unpleasant.

There was a knock on the door.
Carl: Can I help you?
Man: I'm looking for Chas Dingle. She lives here don't she?
(pushes his way in)
Carl: Oi!!
Man: Chas?
Chas: Dean?!!
Dean: Long time no see ey?

Carl looked at Dean, taking in his appearance. He was typically Irish - with dark hair and blue eyes and there was no doubt that he was very, very attractive. Just like all the other men in Chas' life. He looked rough, his dark hair was slightly matted, and his clothes were scruffy. And yet all of this suited him.
How many other dark, handsome men is Chas associated with? First Cameron, now Dean. She'd better not forget it's my baby she's carrying...
