Emmerdale lothario, Matthew Wolfenden (aka David Metcalfe) will be setting the pace this summer as he takes on the cycle leg in the Emmerdale team as part of this year's Salford BG Triathlon World Cup on 29 July.
A former British gymnast squad member, Matthew will be drawing on his athletics skills and is joined by Emmerdale's local hack, Steve Farebrother (aka John McNally) and his cousin, Neil Wolfenden who will tackle the swim and run respectively.
Driven by cast member Tony Audenshaw's performance in front of 22,000 spectators at last year's World Cup event in Salford, Matthew is keen to take on the challenge and keep the Emmerdale flag flying high in this spectacular sporting event. Tony raced for Leukaemia Research Fund as a strong supporter of the event's official charity.
Debuting at the event, the team have a strong combination of sporting skills and hope to give relay competitors a run for their money in the adrenalin fuelled swim, bike and run.
Salford BG Triathlon World Cup once again welcomes hundreds of elite athletes to compete at the highest level on this demanding course, claiming vital points for the Beijing Olympics. A true sporting spectacle, the 'people's race' kicks off early on the Sunday as age groupers follow the same course on which the world's best triathletes will compete later in the day.
Commenting on the event, Matthew said: "We're really looking forward to taking part in the event but it's a pretty daunting prospect at the same time! Tony took part last year and got a massive buzz from it so we hope to maintain the same level of performance and have a great time in the process."
