A LIFELINE charity is calling on York businesses to help celebrate its 40th anniversary.
York Samaritans aims to raise £000s of pounds when it holds an auction of promises this autumn, but is looking for donations from local firms to help make the event a success.
Soap star Chris Chittle, who plays Eric Pollard in Emmerdale, is expected to act as auctioneer, and the auction will be held in the Guildhall, on October 23, at 7pm.
Branch chairman Ben Mawson said: "We're looking for local businesses to donate a service or product to act as a lot which we can auction on the night.
"We're trying to aim for services such as beauty relaxation treatments, or tickets to local events or shows."
York Samaritans, based in Nunnery Lane, has had a major revamp, enabling the charity to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. advertisement
Mr Mawson said: "Since we decided to go for 24-7 status, we've had a big push on recruitment and we've now got over 100 volunteers.
"Our offices have been completely refurbished to make sure we are fit for purpose and our helpline went 24-7 at the beginning of June.
"But longer opening hours mean we've got increased overheads, and this auction of promises will hopefully provide the extra funding we need."
Anybody who would like to donate to the auction can phone Mr Mawson on 07738 853598 or email ben.mawsonmole@btinternet.com
