Stars line up to back pool
EMMERDALE cast members will take part in a football match in aid of a town's swimming pool.
The stars will take on Tadcaster All-Stars at Ings Lane, Tadcaster, next month.
The town's swimming pool was shut on June 7 after lifeguards spotted loose tiles on the floor of the tank. An appeal was then launched to raise the £100,000 needed to repair hundreds of tiles.
The football match has been organised by Emma Shooter, whose two-year-old son Ben is in the ITV show.
Joining the soap star team that includes James Hooton, who plays Sam Dingle, Kelvin Fletcher, who plays Andy Sugden, and Ben Freeman, who plays Scott Windsor, will be reality TV star Jeff Brazier and Big Brother Six winner Anthony Hutton.
Jeff Brazier, who is better known for his on-off relationship with infamous reality TV star Jade Goody, used to play professionally for Leyton Orient Football Club.
The day's activities will also include a bouncy castle and a climbing wall, plus there will be a barbecue and a bar serving food and drinks.
Emma said: "The closure of the pool was a great loss to the community as a whole. My daughter had swimming lessons there, as did many other children.
"It is in all of our interests to get it open as soon as possible and we just wanted to help."
Glen Johnson, the pool's facility manager, said: "The fundraising is going very well. We have already reached £80,000 towards our target and the football match is a key event to help us reach that £100,000.
"We are very thankful to Emma for helping us and we are extremely grateful for the time that the cast is giving up to help a community swimming pool."
The match will kick off at 3.30pm on Sunday, November 25.
Tickets are available from the pool or Taylor's Butchers, in Bridge Street, Tadcaster, costing £5 for adults and £2.50 for children.
A family ticket, admitting two adults and two youngsters, is also available for £12.
Details of all other fundraising events can be found at www.tadcasterpool.org.uk
