Emmerdale stars to take part in charity match Emmerdale stars are set to swap drinks in the Woolpack for a crunch charity cricket match in Leyland later this month. Scheming Eric Pollard, played by Chris Chittell, will be joined by Rev Ashley Thomas (John Middleton) and Carl King (Tom Lister) as they bat for victory against Leyland Cricket Club at the Fox Lane ground on Sunday May 25. Proceeds from the game will go to Derian House Children's Hospice in Chorley. The Leyland side will be captained by BBC Radio Lancashire presenter Dave Swanton. Leyland Cricket Club secretary David Smalley told the Evening Post that the game came about after his niece, Leyland actress Kay Purcell, persuaded the soap stars to play. Kay, who played Carmel Morgan in the ITV1 series, stars as Candice in the BBC One drama Waterloo Road. Mr Smalley said: "There will also be a huge raffle with the first prize being a VIP day on the Emmerdale set." Other Emmerdale stars playing include Samuel Anderson who plays policeman Ross Kirk and Matthew Wolfenden who plays David Metcalfe. The match, between Leyland Cricket Club and an Emmerdale XI, starts at 2pm. There will be Kwik Kricket for the children. Admission is £2 on the gate and tickets can be bought in advance from the club. For more details visit leylandcc.play-cricket.com/home/home.asp
