I’m so sorry it’s taken me so long to update this (argh, PhD) – but thank you so much to the people who have been encouraging me to write more! Here you go... (You might want to go back and read the last chapter first, so you remember where we’re up to!)
Please continue to note that this is a grown-up sort of story and should probably be 15-rated.

Carl was not about to let the love of his life walk away like that, just when they had made a connection again. After half a moment's hesitation, he ran after Chas, grabbed her arm and pulled her round to face him.
"What are you doing?" Chas yelled, struggling against his grip. She was about to slap him when he grabbed her wrist so that she couldn't. "Carl!"
"You just can't believe anything good of me, can you?" Carl said, in a voice that sounded genuinely hurt. "I couldn't just be happy that we might get together again."
"Hold on, sunshine!" Chas continued to struggle against Carl's grip, but it was tight. "Together? After what you did? After the things you said?”
“My head was all over the place then, Chas. If I hurt you-“
“Yeah, you did.”
“If I hurt you, it was because I was afraid of being close to you. But I miss you, Chas. I miss you so much!”
On seeing the sincerity in his eyes, Chas stopped struggling against his grip, though this did not cause him to loosen it. And she did not object – Carl had always been the only man who could really handle her. You wouldn’t think it to look at him, but he could be so firm. When they had been together, it had given her the control she needed. And when he came over all strong and dominant... oh, the sex was electric. She bit her lip at the memories that flashed up in her mind.
Carl did not realise what thoughts were running through Chas’ head, but he saw her eyes widen, giving her an endearing, almost helpless look. That look that had always said ‘I might be tough, but I need you to take care of me’. The look she gave when she was ready to submit.

Wow, you've all been so sweet and encouraging - thank you! Well, here's the next bit, and there's a cliffhanger  --- Carl's grip was intense, and Chas would have been lying if she she did not find it erotic. She held his gaze, but her heart was no longer hard to his affections. It was as if something inside her was melting - and just then, more than ever, she needed to be held by someone who loved her. Carl would not have risked kissing her if he had not seen that look in her eyes. But because he sensed her barriers coming down, he knew he was safe. He let go of her wrists suddenly, and pulled her fully into an embrace, kissing her tenderly. Chas closed her eyes to keep back the tears, and put her arms around him, making sure he didn't pull away. The kiss became deeper and closer, and they did not stop for a long time. When their lips finally parted, it was gently, and they pulled their heads back only enough to look into each other's eyes. There was a love between them that could not be faked, and neither of them doubted it just then. In the heat of such a moment, their romance seemed like the brightest star in the sky - constant and indestructable. "Carl," Chas whispered. She felt as though there was something to be said, and invitation to be made... but the feel of him, the smell of him so close to her, was stopping her from thinking clearly. "Come back to mine," Carl said softly, and he looked at Chas for a response. Something flashed in Chas' eyes.

Sorry for the delay - here's some more! Be warned that the story is drawing to an end now (sorry!), and I think the next instalment will be the conclusion.

Chas slapped Carl hard across the face - so hard that he staggered sideways slightly. "What was that for?" he asked, practically whining. A moment ago he had been so close to her, and something inside him was stirring, ready to take her... And suddenly they had let go of each other and his face was stinging.
"I'm sorry, Carl," Chas said. He realised she was sobbing, which was a rarety of itself - she was not one to let people know they had hurt her. "I'm sorry, but I can't do this."
"Why?" he asked. He put his hands on her arms and tried to pull her closer, but she resisted.
"Back to your place!" she cried. "Back to your place, so we can lie in the bed where you've been doing that slapper Lexi!"
Carl shook his head, but could not find the words to make it better.
"Why her?" Chas asked, now regaining her composure. She put her hands on her hips. "Tell me, why her?"
"I... I don't know, Chas. She was just there. And it seemed to make you jealous. I know it was wrong, but it felt good to think you still had feelings for me."
Chas raised her eyebrows, but did not speak. It was rare that she had nothing to say, but just then she was not sure whether to be flattered or hurt by what he had said. He had been trying to make her jealous, and that was a dirty enough trick. But he had used Lexi just to get an emotional response out of her - it almost seemed sweet, even if it was underhand and deceitful and cruel.
Seeing the conflict in Chas's eyes, Carl knew he had a moment to turn the situation to his advantage before she started shouting again, and he used it. He took hold of her more firmly, and pulled her towards him, not caring whether she resisted or not.
