Former Emmerdale actress and writer Susan is 58. She lives on a house boat on the Thames with son Truan, 26.
My favourite things by SUSAN PENHALIGON
BOOK
One of my favourite books is Bird Song by Sebastian Faulks. It has the best description of a deep, passionate love affair that I have ever read. I also love anything by Ian McEwan. It's his attention to detail that really gets me and he has a darkness in his books that I enjoy. I'm looking forward to reading his most recent offering On Chesil Beach.
FILM
I adore films. One I watch over and over is Forrest Gump because it makes me cry and Tom Hanks is such a good actor. Another favourite is The Matrix because of the intricacies of the plot and the visual effects.
SONG
I've Got You Under My Skin by Frank Sinatra is an all time favourite for me.
The orchestration on the track by Frank Riddle, is to die for I really like My guy from the sixties. It was written by Smokey Robinson by Mary Wells. It was around when I was just hutting puberty & getting interested in boys so it reminds me of that time.
HOBBY
I live on a house boat on the Thames and like most actors I have busy times and quiet times, so when I'm free I love to potter about on my boat, fixing things and looking after its upkeep.
Simple pleasures-
Lying on my sofa watching a lovely film with a glass of red wine is my top simple pleasure but I do like to flick through catalogues looking at things that I would never buy. I fold down the pages of things that I like but don't ever get around to ordering them.
Spiritual home-
It's Porthmeor beach in St Ives Cornwall. I am a cornish girl & grew up there. I had my eight birthday party on Porthmeor beach & it's a wonderful memory. My mother collected me from school & took me down there where everyone was gathered as a surprise. It has changed so much since then but it is still one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Susan's first novel For the love of Angel is published on 12th June by Truran books.
