It looks like it has been cancelled Mark
From Halesowen News Dismay as charity soap clash cancelled at last minute 4:56pm Monday 11th August 2008
A popular celebrity football match to raise cash for terminally ill children has been cancelled after the Hollyoaks cast pulled out at the last minute.
The Hollyoaks versus Emmerdale match, due to take place at Halesowen Town next Sunday (August 17), was called off today (Monday) leaving organiser Acorns Children's Hospice red faced and facing a funding deficit of £20,000.
Hundreds of fans were expected to flock to the match to glimpse their soap heroes.
The event was billed as a celebrity clash of the titans - but now viewers will be left disappointed as Hollyoaks actors said they could not attend at the eleventh hour due to filming commitments.
A statement released by the charity said: "Acorns Children's Hospice has today been advised of filming commitments for the Hollyoaks cast, which now precludes them from participating in the celebrity football match.
"This is hugely disappointing to us who as a children‘s hospice rely on fundraising activities such as this celebrity football match to generate income to care for life limited children.
"It was hoped the match would have raised up to £20,000, which would have paid for more than a month’s vitally-needed hospice care for local life limited children.
"Acorns Children's Hospice understands many ticket holders will be very disappointed, as we ourselves are.
"Acorns will of course honour a full refund to them.
"It remains the fact that our children and families still need support, and if any ticket holders would like to donate the cost of their ticket towards that care, it would be greatly appreciated by Acorns."
It is the third year in a row the event was due to be staged.
Ticket holders may contact Acorns Children's Hospice at celebrityfootball@acorns.org.uk or call 01564 82 5092. Lines are open 9am until 9pm.
