What's on my menu by Adele Silva.
Couch or kitchen?
At the kitchen table. Meal times are when I wind down, so I like to take me. relax and do it properly.
Must eat?
Ooh, I'm torn between two things -my mother's side of the family is Italian so I grew up eating a lot of a lot of mozzarella and things like that, but I also really love Japanese
food. I like the simplicity and the fresh flavours, and it's very good for you, too. I could eat sushi all day and not feel guilty for it. I'm quite adventurous with food, and I love trying new things -I
used to detest olives and squid, but now I can't get enough of either of them.
Won't eat?
I'm not a big fan of lamb or venison -I just don't like the taste. And ever since I had to pluck a pheasant on Hell's Kitchen, I haven't been too keen on those either. I think it's a psychological block.
Top tipple?
It has to be my own wine, which I created with Stowells. It was a great process of learning about wines and grape varieties and I got to travel around France and Italy doing all the tasting. I've created my own pinot grigio chardonnay and a merlot cabernet. Before I started this project I couldn't tell a chenin from a chardonnay and I didn't like reds at all -I thought of them as an old person's drink. But now I've learned to appreciate it, and mine is seriously drinkable with a nice blackcurrant nose - I'm really proud of it.
Sweet treat?
I just adore desserts, I have a real taste for sweet things and my favourite is apple crumble with ice cream. The crumble has to be piping hot and really crumbly so the ice cream melts over it. And I got really excited the other week when I was working with the Great British Feast, and there was this gorgeous knickerbocker gory. Then, when I went out for dinner the next day, the restaurant we visited did the real thing, with ice cream, cream and jelly. It's sheer indulgence.
Speciality?
I'm not the world's greatest cook, but I do try. When I'm working I'm more likely to eat out or meet friends in central London. When I do cook I make simple things like chicken with vegetables. I throw together a good salad, too.
Ultimate dinner companion?
I'd have the entire cast of Brothers and Sisters, the American drama that was on Channel 4 a few months ago. I think all the cast are great actors and they all have great personal stories to tell, too.
Secret snack shame-
Pick n' mix sweets, whether I'm in Woolies or at the cinema I just can't help myself. I also snack on Ryvtta and chicken. I guess that's too healthy to be a secret shame - but you can have too much of a good thing.
