10 years on and two families reign supreme of Emmerdale:
The Kings and The Sugdens.
The King family is headed by Matthew King, who took the business after Tom passed away after suffering a major stroke. Matthew became even more ruthless now his father had gone - he was the only reason he would have any morals. Matthew slowly took over Emmerdale and now owns most of the cottages as well as the local businesses. He's married to Kim King (formerly Tate). She came back when she heard Zoe was selling Home Farm after the collapse of the Tate Empire. She got very close to the new owner, Matthew and they were soon married.
Matthew and Kim are a very passionate couple. Kim loves Matthew's wealth and power and spends most of her time riding her horses, throwing parties up at Home Farm and lording it over the villagers. But she is not content with Matthew and has been having a very risky and dangerous affair with a member of the King's rival family: Daz Sugden.
Kim's weakness is her beloved son James, who is nothing but a layabout playboy who got his nose put out of joint when at his wedding to Victoria Sugden his nephew Joseph Tate whisked her away with him to Barbados when a dodgy business deal landed in him hot water and he had to escpae James was left looking like a fool and after a fight with Jospeh which led to them both falling into the pool and then a high speed sportscar chase, Joseph and Victoria got away. The Sugden's blame James for being the reason Victoria decided to be leave the village.
The only other King left in the village is Max King, he lives in Mill Cottage with his wife Libby King. Libby and Max got together after Libby found out her sister Tamsin and Andy had been having an affair and that Tamsin was pregnant. She swore that Tamsin was nothing to do with her or the Charles family and would now have to survive with the little money Andy got from the farm. Max owns the vet practice and works there with another vet: Debbie Dingle, who managed to get through Vet School with the help of Zak and Lisa who looked after Debbie's son Jude in term time. Now she can bring Jude up in Smithy Cottage where they live, she promised to Jude that nothing would come between them like what happened with her own parents. The receptionist at the vets is Belle Dingle.
The Sugden Family had a good turn of luck when their farm turned out to be on top of one of the last remaining un disturbed coal mines in the UK. They kept this news quiet and asked Matthew if they could purchase the farm. It didn't make a lot of money so Matthew sold it to them for a bargain. Then they started to mine the coal for fortunes and soon became the new millionaires. In a freak accident at the unveiling of the new drill Jack Sugden fell through a barrier and down a deep pit, falling to his death. Diane Sugden is now the matriarch of the Sugden Family and lives with Victoria up at Holdgate Farm. Matthew was not happy about being ripped off by the Sugdens and therefore the rivalry continues. When Andy and Tamsin decided to push for custardy of Jude Dingle, Andy illegitamate child they decided to buy Farrer's Barn and the Antiques barn and turn it into a state of the art barn conversion. They lost the custardy battle but it still made a great home for Andy and Tamsin's daughter Marie.
Shortly after Jack's death Diane decided that family was very important and so she adopted Daz who she thought of as her own son. Daz is now a director at Sugden Coal Co.
The Skelton Family is now huge: Jarvis and Edna married. Edna's son's family moved upto the village full time, and so did Jarvis's daughter's family.
The Daggert/Reynolds are back at large: Ollie and Danny are living together in Jacob's Fold with their two children, Jack (7) and Cynthia (5). Pearl has moved to a retirement home, when Len died and she started to suffer from dementia.
Marlon and Donna live in Victoria Cottage with the triplets: Mark, Mary and Audrey. (9)
Victoria Sugden and Joseph Tate emigrated to the caribean on the run from the police after Joseph
