"Right then Shadders, it's errand time for you!" shouts Zak as he plonks himself down at the Dingle table. "Aww y'what? I've just sat down, I haven't stopped all day!" Shadrach moans, giving Zak a pleading look. "Haven't stopped what? Drinkin', burpin' and snorin'? Look here you, you're gonna go into Hotten and stock up on nappies for our Sarah - there's a fella behind High Street that does 'em quarter of the price", says Zak. "Now get goin'!" Shadrach shuffles to his feet and puts a jacket on, huffing and puffing as he does so. "Here, there's a tenner - straight there and straight back alright?!" demands Zak, a menacing tone in his voice.
Shadrach stomps out of the front door and into the yard, tutting to himself as he approaches the van. He jumps in and speeds off down the dirt trail and towards the village. Meanwhile, at the Antiques Barn, Rodney is having a little difficulty with Val, who is beginning to cause a scene. "Look, Val!" pleads Rodney, "I can't help you anymore. You've had every penny I'm ever going to give you so just go will you!" Val confronts Rodney; "What about all those years Paul never knew his real father eh? Did I ask for any maintenance? No! Well don't you think I'm owed some now eh?!" Rodney grabs Val by the arm and begins to escort her out of the barn; "I've never known anyone sink as low as you do Val, and do you know what? It's embarrassing." Rodney tries to fling Val out onto the path but she quickly turns and runs back into the barn. Grabbing the first thing that comes to hand, on this occassion a large vase, she runs past Rodney and around the back of the barn. "Valerie!!!" bellows Rodney, as he gives chase. "You're not getting this back until you listen to us!" yells Val as she darts towards the vicarage with Rodney in pursuit.
Shadrach is now approaching the turning for Emmerdale's main street where he is all set for Hotten, but at the last second a real thirst comes over him and he swerves dangerously into the village and squeals to a halt outside the Woolpack. Jumping out of the van, he grasps the ten pound note given to him by Zak and licks his lips in anticipation. Unfortunately for Shadrach, just as he's about to enter the pub, he spies Lisa coming out of Viv's shop and panics. Thinking on his feet, Shadrach jumps back into the van and quickly reverses down Rodney's gravel drive and right up to the entrance of the Antiques Barn. Now safely out of sight, he decides to wait inside before Lisa disappears.
Realising his surroundings, Shadrach becomes curious as to what Rodney's got to offer. Smirking to himself he picks up a large plate and checks the price tag - £600. "Blimey!" Shadrach whispers as he quickly tucks the plate under his coat and has a quick look to see if anyone has spotted him. Suddenly an idea dawns on him and he flings open the back door to the Dingle van, placing the plate inside. Seizing the oppotunity, Shadrach loads half a dozen articles into the van before hearing Rodney's gutteral roar approaching the barn. "Val?!?! Where the hell are you?!" Shadrach again panics and realises Rodney isn't too far away. He slams the doors of the van shut, albeit one of them remains partially open, and bundles himself into the driver's seat.
Rodney has just approached the top of the barn drive when he notices the Dingle van parked up in front of his business. Rapidly forgetting about Val he focuses his attentions on Shadrach, who is now speeding up the drive and determined to get away! Rodney yells; "Stop!!!" but Shadrach has no intention of carrying out his orders. As the van rolls past Rodney he gives chase as Shadrach tries to put his foot down and escape the village. Just as Shadrach's about to turn the corner and head to Hotten, Rodney dives into the van through the open back door and finds himself an unwilling passenger in Shadrach's getaway race!
Clambering to his knees, Rodney slams the back door shut and crawls up to the vehicle's front end. "Shadrach! Stop the van! You'll get us killed!" Shadrach has now reached 70mph as he tears down the winding country roads of Emmerdale. Rodney quickly glances at his antiques to make sure they're OK and sets about stopping Shadrach in his tracks. "No chance Rodney!" yells Shadrach, "I'm not gettin' done for this! I'll stop the van if you promise not to get the coppers involved!" Rodney puts his hands out in front of him and waves them up and down; "OK OK! Whatever you say just stop the van!" he cries. "Oh and I want a week's worth of beer at the Wooly 'n all!" laughs Shadrach, turning to smile and Rodney in glee. "What?!" cries Rodney; "you're the one stealing my antiques and I'm meant to reward you?! If any of these are damaged I'll be going straight to Zak - now just stop the van!"
Shadrach performs an abrupt emergency stop right on a blind corner and the van lurches forward, the back two wheels inching off the ground. The force of the brakes causes Rodney to sail over the passenger seat and crash through the front windscreen of the van, roll off the bonnet and straight into a deep, muddy ditch. Shadrach looks up from the steering wheel and shakes his head. He peers into the back of the van and smiles to himself. Though his smile soon turns to worry when he sees the great smash in the windscreen. "Rodders?!" he shouts, clambering out of the van and running round the front. "Oh Rodney" chuckles Shadrach as he stops and notices Rodney is lying on his back in a ditch full of thick mud. "Shadrach" croaks Rodney, raising one of his arms to throw his phone onto the grass, "call an ambulance... I think something's broken!" "Oh don't worry Rodney mate" shouts Shadrach, "the antiques haven't got a scratch on 'em!"
