A Chas and Carl story.......
"Right so.See you later babe.Love you"Chas giggled as she hung up her cell phone as she drove home.She knew it was dangerous,but she would do anything to even hear Carl's voice.She couldn't believe how much she had fallen for the guy.They had been going out for five years now,and she was loving every minute of it.She couldn't wait for him to come home already.They had planned a lovely night in,no interruptions.As she drove up her windy drive,she remembered back a few monthes ago........
"Oh babe,its beautiful!I love it!"Chas planted the biggest kiss she could give on Carl."Glad you like it.I was thinking you would hate it.After all,your so hard to please!"Carl laughed as Chas shoved him playfully."Meanie!But its perfect babe.It really is." Chas ran towards the little cottage her boyfriend had bought,a "small"present for when she came home from visiting her cousin Del in Peru.
Chas stood in the doorway of her little home,fumbling in her pockets for they keys.She dropeed her shopping bags,and typically,they spilt all over the ground."Uuuugh!"Chas rolled her eyes and blew out,then bent down and began to scoop up the groceries.A dark shadow came over her."Need a hand?"Chas looked up to see Carl standing over her,grinning."I suppose"laughed Chas,taking the hand that was being extended to her."Oh dear,"exclaimed Carl,looking down at the ruined vegetables and the squished bacon,"Just as well I brought a takeaway!" Chas laughed."You must have known this was going to happen." Carl raised his eyebrows."Carl knows everything.Go on ahead,I'll clean up here." "Thanks.I'll get the dishes out."Chas dissapeared into the hall.Carl watched her go inside,and when he began to hear the clatter of dishes,he put his hand inside his jacket pocket.He pulled out the small velvet box,which inside was a golden sparkling enegagement ring.He smiled,and popped the box back inside his pocket before Chas came back out.Just to get the right moment to ask,he thought.He bent down and began to clear up the mess.

Carl came in with a bag full of mush ten minutes later."Your dinner's here"said Chas with a mouth full of pizza and microwave chips.Carl put some soap on his hands and began to wash them."Okay,I'll be over in a minute."He looked into the window that reflected the dining room.He smiled at the sight of his girlfriend-and-hopefully-to-be-wife trying to pour him a juice over her pizza.He wasn't going to just propose to her in any old way.He was going to make this really special.Thats why he wasnt going to work tomorrow.He was going to the travel agents to book a romantic weekend away for just the two of them.No mobile phones,nothing.He joined her at the table in the cosy room and took a grateful sip of his drink."So,will you be at the office tomorrow?" "Um,I don't know.Might be.Still not sure."he gabbled.Chas gave him a funny look.God,he would have to get acting lessons one of these days."Ummmm.....so how was your day babe?" Chas gave him another funny look.
The next morning he was leaving for "work"."I might call in to you later,yeah?"Chas asked Carl as she kissed him goodbye."NO!I mean like,do what you want,Im not going to be-well I might be,but I could be-" "ALRIGHT!I wont bother!I'll see you at the Woolie later,im working the late shift." "Right babe.Talk soon"he gave her a final kiss,hopped in his car and drove away.

On his way to the Travel Agency,Carl saw a large billboard sign-RINGS ENGRAVED FOR ONLY £250.CALL INTO O'TOOLES JEWELLERS,LEEDS.Carl smirked and decided to do a little trip after.
Chas sat in the near-empty Woolpack(near-empty,as the usual people were there-Shadrach,Zach) She decided enough was enough.She loved Carl with all of her heart,all of her soul,with her everything.He never kept a secret from her before,why start now?"Hold the bar,Zach,I need to nip out for a bit.No-your not getting free whiskeys"she added when she saw the delight n Shadrachs face.Both his and Zachs face dropped.
Chas arrived in King and Sons Office a few moments later.She went straight in."Did either of you see Carl around?"she demanded to Jimmy and Matthew.They looked up.Matthew smirked."Missing lil Mommy's boy already?Dont' know.Probably went off to his other girlfriends house." Chas contained her anger.She would not let Matthew King of all people,get the satisfaction of seeing her riled.She turned on her heel and walked out.
"Must you be so mean?"snapped Jimmy to his younger brother."She could be our future sister in llaw you know!" "Well,"said Matthew,settling in his armchair."fingers crossed"

CHas came out into the cold sharp air,breathing heavily.For the first time in ages,she felt annoyed with Carl.She trudged through the mud,thinking hard.
"Yeah,I want somewhere nice and quiet,up the country a bit maybe." The travel agent clerk clicked on something with her computer."Okay.How about....Edinbourough?Lovely place.Could get you a good hotel deal too." "Alright sounds good."Carl finished with dealing with him and Chas's secret holiday.Finally,she asked when he would like to book it for."Ummm.."Carl pondered deeply.Then he grinned."How about tomorrow?" The clerk smiled,typing something else on the computer.Carl admired her fast skills."Must be important business then."She gave him out a printed sheet full of details."Yeah,"he laughed,feeling the small box in his pocket."It is."

"WHERE WERE YOU?!?!"yelled Chas when she heard Carl arrive in the door later.She stormed out into the hall to meet him.St the sight of his cheeky smile,her heart nearly melted,but she remembered she was angry at him."You worried 'bout me?" Chas crossed her arms,not hugging back when he greeted her."No"she said shortly.She went back in to the sitting room and resumed watching TV.Carl didn't really mind the spot of bother,he knew it would be okay tomorrow.
Chas was still mad at him.They were getting ready for bed.Over dinner and throughout the evening,Chas and questioned him about his whereabouts that afternoon constantly.He only had shaken his head and laughed,which had infuriated her even more.She stopped really talking normally to him then,except for "Turn up the radio," or th occasional "move over".She went into the bathroom to brush her teeth."Oh yeah,"called Carl from the bedroom,"don't make plans for tomorrow.I have a surprise tour for you!" Chas,who had a mouthfull of foam,ran into the bedroom.Her heart couldn't help it this time,he was so sweet when he done things like this.She gave him a big hug."Why?What did I do to deserve this?"she grinned.Carl smiled back at her."Nothing,"he said,kissing her nose,"its just you're you"

The nest morning,they were packed and ready to go."Where are we going?"asked Chas pleadingly."Can't tell you.Sorry"said Carl,shrugging.Chas stared at him for a while.She was kind of suspicious about all this.What is he doing?Why is he doing it?Where was he yesterday?Carl got into the car and Chas followed suit.When they were all strapped in,he began to drive.She started pestering him the minute the engine revved,desperate to know where they were going.Carl still refused to answer all questions relating to the trip,and sat there tight-lipped.Eventually Chas gave up,sitting back in her seat."When will we be back?" Carl smiled."Not sure yet.I'll tell you when it happens." "What?  " Chas was really confused now. Carl looked at her."Never you mind nosy." Chas sighed."Fine.I'll find something else to keep me occupied as im getting nothing out of you."She looked around,and saw Carl's phone lying on the dashboard.She reached across.Carl saw her hand pick up the phone.He panicked,remembering that there was some information about the ring in the texts."NO!"he yelled,before reaching out and grabbing the phone out of her hand.Chas got the fright of her life."What now??I suppose its some secret girlfriend I don't know about?" "What are you on about Chas??" "I KNOW!DON'T LIE TO ME CARL!" Chas was getting more angry and upset by the second.Carl looked at her increduosly.His eyes locked on hers,taking them off the road.Chas stared at him,and then right through him.She saw a large truck driving towards the Carl,approaching quickly on Carl's side.For a split-second,for a tiny fraction of time,everything seemed to be in slow motion,almost peaceful.Carl was blissfull unaware of what was happening.All Chas could do was scream,watching the oncoming vehicle powerlessly. |

Sorry about that,i never wrote something,it must ave really annoyed you sorry bout that!
The only noise were the sounds of sqeuling brakes,a smashing noise as the truck ploughed into the car,and Chas's screams.Then,silence.Chas was knocked out cold....
"Yes,backup needed please.A woman and a man......look around 30......." the fireman said into the walkie-talkie that was strapped to his collar,peering into the wreckage.He terminated the call for help,and he and another fireman started to talk to the black-haired woman who was unconcious in the front seat."Miss?Miss,can you hear us?" the other fireman said,shining a torch into her eyes.The fireman with the walkie-talkie checked her wrists."I have a pulse here,Bill." Bill shone the torch down past her legs."Looks like shes trapped.We need back-up to help cut her out." a crowd had gathered by now,staring at the heap of metal that used to be Carl's car.Chas opened her eyes slowly.She could hear voices but she couldn't understand what they were saying.Her legs were killing her.She tried to look down but a fireman pushed her gently back."You've been in an accident,Miss.You'll be okay,an ambulance is on its way." Carl,thought frantically.She turned her head to the side,but couldnt see him.A piece of the truck was there."Wheres Carl?"sha asked the men,panicking."Is that the man who was with you?" Their questions were drowned out by a siren wailing in the distance,coming closer and closer....

Chas awoke again,to find she was in the back of an ambulance,speeding along.The firemen were gone.A medic was standing over her,examining her.A female medic was holding her bruised hand,murmering,reassuring her.Chas was too weak to speak,or to move.Her one thought was of Carl,where he was,what had happened.She drifted in and out of consciousness.She closed her eyes,and when she opened them again she was being pushed quickly on a hospital trolley,down many corridors.....the next time she opened her eyes,she was lying in a hospital bed.A doctor and two nurses were busy arranging pills on her bedside table and sticking things into her."Ah,"the doctor said,spotting that she was awake,"Miss Dingle?You were in a car crash.Are you alright?" "No,im not bloody alright.Would you be okay if this happened to you?" The doctor looked at her."Its alright now,Miss Dingle,no need for that.You had to have an emergency operation,to fix some internal bleeding.Its okay now,we maneged to stop it.We took some blood from your cousin Sam Dingle,as you were losing a lot of blood.You're not well enough to be discharged just yet,so just hold on a few more days and you'll be flying!" The last thing Chas wanted was to fly.Then,she fell unconcious again.
She awoke a few hours later,to find Shadrach,Zach and Lisa gathered around her.The felt a burning pain in her arm,and saw there was a drip inserted in there."Oh,love.We were worried sick."sobbed Lisa,red-eyed,throwing her amrs around her."Careful,love."laughed Zach,even though his eyes were red too.Shadrach came over shakily.He kissed her forehead."Thought we'd lost you for a mo.But you're a tough one,hard to get rid of, our Chas!"They spent an hour or two with her,then left.The doctor re-entered."Wheres Carl?"demanded Chas,staribg him right in the face."Fine!Hes just fine."said the doctor breezily,before checking her temprature.

Days passed,relatives came and went,and still no sign of Carl.The doctors said he was critical,but that he would be fine.Everyday,her leg got better a little more,the cuts and bruises began to clear up,but scars remained.Soon she managed to walk about holding on to her drip.She soon tired of the excuses about Carl.A nurse came in to bring her dinner,and Chas decided the time was now."Please,"begged Chas,gripping her arm weakly."Please tell me how Carl is.Can I see him?" The nurse looked at her."I'll be back in a second,"she said quietly,and left the room.The doctor came in a few moments later.He closed the door behind him.He pulled up a chair to her side,and sat down."You werent well enough to tell you,"he began slowly,not meeting her eyes,"but Carl fell into a coma at the scene.We brought him in ahead of you,and he seemed fine.He was extremely critical,so critical that even his brothers and sister werent allowed in to see him.Then,last Tuesday,he had a heart attack,and his organs failed.Im so sorry,Chastity.We done everything we could." "But-but your saying he's dead"Chas said,her voice rising,"But hes not!We had too much planned!No he's not!This is one big joke!"she cried.She stared at the door,expecting Carl to saunter in and tell her he fooled her,and so did the doctor,and the nurses too."Im so sorry,"the doctor repeated,"we done everything we could.But he's gone." "He's not!He CAN'T BE!"she yelled.She couldn't breathe.She felt like her lungs were going to burst open from the pain of it all.She kept repeating it in her mind,but the truth was trying to sink in-that he was gone,and he wasn't coming back.Tears streamed down her face,not able to stop."Its okay-you're in shock,thats all."said the doctor quickly.A nurse came in,and the doctor stood up."I'll be back in a while.Im so sorry."he repeated again,before exiting.Ther nurse sat down in the chair he vacated,and pulled some tissues out of a box and mopped her face.She tried to talk to her,but Chas kept sobbing hysterically.After a while,the nurse got up and left.Chas was left alone,in the cold empty hospital room,crying,her heart breaking.

I dont really know about the process following someones death in a hospital,so I am just going to say Carl is in the mortuary???
Just a little tip-look up Missing You by 1st lady on youtube before reading this....Its such a sad song....
Anyone who doesnt want details about dead bodies please skip this chapter.......
That evening,Chas lay in bed,not wanting to talk to anyone,not wanting to take her medication.A nurse came in."Do you want anything?"she asked kindly.Chas remembered her,she was always kind and cheerful."Can-can i please see him-" she choked out.The nurse nodded. "I'll arrange it for you".
Soon,Chas was being wheeled down to the mortuary.She folded her arms and stared at them the whole way,while cold tears leaked out her eyes.Eventually,they reached the mortuary.The nusre who was pushing her wheelchair hesitated before entering the room where Carl was laid out."Are you sure you want to do this?"she asked,kneeling down beside Chas.Chas nodded,still looking at her hands."Yes"she croaked.The nurse stood up,and knocked on the door.
"We'll leave you alone with Carl,"said the nurse when they were inside,and her and the mortician left the room.Chas could see the table that Carl was laid on.She wheeled herself up to it.A white sheet was covering him.She pulled it back gently,and stared into Carl's face.Nothing had changed,except he was very pale,and there was a horrific gash across his forhead.She picked up his hand and remebered all the memories,while tears spurted out under her closed eyelids.
Half an hour later,the nurse came back in with the mortician close behind."Its time to go,Chas,"she said softly.Chas stood up shakily and kissed Carl's cheek."See you in heaaven babe" she murmered,tears rolling down onto his closed eyes.The nurse began to wheel her away."Miss Dingle?"the mortician said suddenly.The nurse turned the wheelchair around."We found this inside Mr.King's jacket." he produced a small velvet box,He reached out and dropped it into Chas's hand.Chas opened the box.Sitting inside the box was a beautiful golden ring.She picked it up.Engraved around it was I'LL LOVE YOU ALWAYS.On the inside there was a message,in tiny writing so that Chas had to squint to read it CHARL-CHAS AND CARL,TOGETHER FOREVER.
