Rated 15 for moderate horror content!

Part II
“We’d better go over there in case someone has been hurt,” Rodney said nobly. “Come on Grayson.”
Despite feeling somewhat apprehensive, Grayson put on his most manly expression and followed. “You stay here, Viv,” he said in a deep voice, trying to match Rodney’s valour.
Viv went to the shop’s front window, but did as she was told.
***
Zack swung a heavy punch at the nearest tourist, sending him flying backwards. Though he seemed unhurt despite the force of the blow, it gave them enough time to get inside the pub.
“Come on,” Jack said, responding well to the crisis and pulling Zack in with him. Shadrach, Val and Jimmy they left to their fate. Everyone else was now trapped.
“I don’t know what’s going on here,” Zack panted, leaning with his back to the door. He shook his head, disbelieving.
“Carl, give me a hand!” Matthew shouted at his brother as he struggled to get one of the round pub tables to the door. “Come on, we have to make a barricade!”
“Barricade? What are you going on about?” Carl shouted back from the far side of the bar, where it seemed he had remained the whole time in spite of the uproar. “And what’s wrong with Scarlet?”
Scarlet was in a heap on the floor, sobbing her heart out. She tried to speak but could only sob more.
Matthew stared at Carl, not quite believing he could be so oblivious to everything. A tear stung his eye. How was he going to tell him about Jimmy? He decided to leave that for now, until he knew they were safe. It was just the two of them now, and Scarlet he supposed. “Just help me,” he said hoarsely.
Seeing his brother was serious, Carl did as he said.
***
“What on God’s earth is going on here?” Edna gasped as she left her front door with Tootsie in her arms. She set her down on the ground and peered towards the Woolpack.
“Edna!” a voice cried. It was Rodney, and he was running towards her.
“For goodness’ sake, act your age!” she snapped, still wondering what had happened and who had been screaming and why an ageing man was running towards her in a state of seeming panic. Then she saw that Grayson was running after him. Looking over at the pub, she realised there were people lying on the floor amid a group of what seemed to be tourists.
“Edna, don’t come out!” Rodney gasped, out of breath. “Go back in and lock your door.”
“What is going on?” she asked, quietly now. Fear was welling up inside her.
“We don’t know,” Grayson said. “But... well, it looks as though people are dead. Val, Jimmy, Shadrach... They’re just lying there.”
“Oh lord, no...” Edna trailed off. She had not noticed that Tootsie had wandered away from the garden.
“Look, maybe you should come with us,” Rodney said. Edna did not respond. “Quickly!” He took her hand, and the three of them rushed in the direction of the shop, as fast as they could without leaving Edna behind.
When they were almost there, Edna stopped. “No, wait! Tootsie!” She looked round.
One of the tourists was now standing halfway between the Woolpack and the shop, and she was holding Tootsie in her arms. Tootsie yelped in fright and pawed at her.
“Excuse me!” Edna shouted. “That’s my dog!”
The tourist said nothing. Instead she lifted Tootsie up as if she was going to kiss her. She bit hard, and Tootsie gave one last yelp as her blood was drained from her body.
Edna screamed, but Rodney and Grayson picked her up and pulled her inside.
“Oh my God!” Viv wailed from the window.
***
“Good idea, lad,” Zack said to Matthew, forgetting any hatred he had reserved for him. He helped to bring pieces of furniture to the door to barricade it.
“The other exits!” Jack cried suddenly, rushing away from the door.
“Jack?” Diane said, trying to stop him. “What...”
He pushed past her and ran out to the back rooms to barricade that door as well. Diane went to the front window and peered outside for the first time. Her sister’s body was lying on the tarmac, and Jimmy’s was partly on top of her. Shadrach was a couple of feet away.
Diane whimpered and shook. Suddenly a face appeared at the window, a male tourist, bloody mouth grinning. His eyes were dark, emotionless. Diane froze for a moment, then screamed.
“Come away!” Zack shouted, pulling her away from the window. “Matthew, quick! We need something here!” Together they tried to block off the window by piling up tables and chairs.
The tourist began to claw at the window, long nails squeaking against the glass.

“Oh lord, protect us!” Edna whispered, and then repeated it over and over.
“What’s going on?” Jamie asked, coming through from the cafe after hearing Viv’s wailing.
“Jamie, lock the cafe door now,” Rodney said. “Don’t let anyone out, just lock the door.”
“You what?”
“Do it!” Rodney shouted.
“What’s happening?” Jasmine asked as Jamie rushed to lock the door. She and Sandy were the only two customers present.
“God knows,” Jamie said. “But I don’t like it.”
Jasmine wondered if she might get a good story out of whatever was going on.
***
“What the hell’s happening?” Carl asked, grabbing Matthew by the collar. “Tell me!”
Matthew shook his head, not knowing how to explain. “They’re killers,” he said slowly. “Them tourists. I’m sorry, Carl. They... they got Jimmy.”
“What?” Carl let go of him. “What are you saying?” Rather than wait for an answer, he ran to the window, a part of which they had not been able to block off. He stood, staring out.
Matthew came behind him, putting a hand on his shoulder. “I’m so sorry.”
Carl turned to him, his eyes wide. “But there’s nothing there.”
***
“Scarlet, stop crying,” Daz said. They were both sitting on the floor behind the far end of the bar, keeping away from adults who kept telling them not to get in the way. He had his arm round her, trying to be comforting.
“But... they killed him...” she sobbed. “They killed Jimmy. I’d only just found him!” She started crying again.
Daz just kept his arm round her and bit his lip. He was doing something by staying there to comfort her, he consoled himself. But he felt like a wimp for not helping the other men with the defences.
***
Just then, Jack came out behind the bar and spoke as loudly as he could. “I’ve made the back safe,” he said. “Look, what we have to do now is stick together and try to fight this.”
“And what is this?” Carl cried. “Will someone tell me what’s really going on? Because if this is some big joke...”
“I’m sorry about your brother lad, but Jimmy’s dead,” Jack said, annoyed at being interrupted when he was trying to save them all. “Now look, everyone. We need some sort of plan. We’ll have to stay here, now that it’s fortified. And we can ring for help.”
Zack came in from the front door then. “They’ve stopped trying to break in the door,” he said, sounding confused.
“And there’s noone visible out the window,” Matthew added. “Not even the dead...”
