Matthew back when the house collapsed and when he found out it was Sadie's fault he kicked her out of his life

Sadie left Emmerdale, unknown to herself that she was in fact expecting Matt's baby.

So Sadie came back a month before she had the baby, Matthew wasn't pleased to see her but took her back into his home

It was March the 4th, Sadie gives birth to a little girl at 3.15am, it was 4.30 in the afternoon of the 3rd of March when her water broke. Matthew was in a meeting in Liverpool when he got a panic phone call from Sadie saying she's in labour, before he entered the meeting he told the others that he's got to leave his mobile and his beeper on.

Tim- expecting a very important phone call about a new business venture

Matthew-not exactly my girlfriend is due any day now

Tim- oh congratulations do you or your girlfriend know the baby's sex

Matthew- we don't know

The phone call

Sadie- Matthew!

Matthew- Sadie, are you all right? are you in labour?

Sadie- yeah I am

Matthew-......... right ok don't you worry, I'm on my way

Matthew runs into the office he packs all his stuff up and runs out of the office

Tim- Let me guess she's in labour right

Matthew- yeah she is, do I look that obvious

Tim- yeah you look scared, just like me when my first born son was born

Matthew- I'm totaly scared shitless about becoming a dad, god I couldn't even take care of a hamster when I was a teenager so what I'm I going to be like with a baby, my baby son or daughter

Matthew runs off and gets into his sports car and speeds off.

2 hours later Matthew arrives home

Matthew- Sadie! sadie sweetheart

Sadie- Matthew I'm up the stairs in the bedroom

Matthew runs up stairs, he runs into the bedroom the midwife is there
Tracy looked up at Matthew

Tracy- Is he the father?

Sadie- yeah he's the father

Matthew- How's it going?

Tracy- it's going well for now, there are no complications yet

Matthew- Shall we get to hospital

Tracy- No not yet she's not yet 3 centimeters dilated, it'll take several more hours yet

Three hours later Tracy moves Sadie to hospital

5 hours later

Doctor- Ok you are 10 centimeters dilated start to push

Matthew- ok push love

15 minutes later

Doctor- Ok the head is crowning boy it's taken after the father, thick jet black hair

2 minutes later the baby comes out

Doctor- congratulations it's a little girl

Matthew- A GIRL!

Matthew- No I'm thrilled to bits that it's a girl

The doctor puts the girl in Sadie's arms

Matthew looked down at the baby girl

Matthew- Oh she's beautiful

Sadie- Go to your daddy now

Matthew- I'm a dad now, I'm her daddy. Sadie puts the girl in Matthew's arms.

The baby opened her eyes.

Matthew- Oh hello there, you are so beautiful, your grandad will be pleased to hear about you

Sadie- Don't tell him

Matthew- I cannot tell him

Sadie- I don't want him any where near my baby

Matthew went up to his dad's house and can't keep it to himself and accidently blurts out to Tom about the girl.

Tom- A girl, that's fantastic! what's her name?

Matthew- Claire Mary King

Three weeks later Sadie wanted to get away from it all, dump the baby

Matthew- ........ what!

Sadie- Shall I make it simpler for you it's me or Claire

Matthew- Claire hands down

Sadie- what!

Matthew- you heard I choose our baby girl over you. I can't believe you were going to abondon our not even 3 weeks old baby daughter. During the night Sadie packs a bag and leaves, she leaves a note on her pillow, this leaves Matthew devastated but determined to bring up his baby daughter. He was crying when he read the note from Sadie

To Matt
I really do love you I do hope you tell our girl that her mum loves her very much,

Five minutes later Matthew hears the baby crying. Matthew goes upstairs and gently lifts the baby girl out of the crib

Matthe- Sssh..... princess daddy's here, daddy will always be there for you I promise

One hour later the girl hasn't stopped crying so Matthew phones Carl up to give him so advice at being a father

Matthew- Hi Carl, I really need to talk to you

Carl- what's up, is that Claire I can hear

Matthew- yeah, Sadie's left us

Carl- what!

Matthew - I need to talk to you about being a father since Sadie's gone well how do I go about feeding her? Sadie used to breastfeed her

Carl- well you need to get some special baby milk, looks like you've goy your hands full with the little one

Matthew- yeah she hasn't stopped crying for a whole hour.

Carl- tell you what I'll get the baby milk for you, and I'll come over and finally see my niece

Matthew- Will you that's a life saver Yeah come on over it's time she got to know her uncle. I'm having big trouble being a full time dad it's hard work and exhausting. I used to pick on you really bad soon after your son was born, you used to come to work totally knackered and I kept saying it's only a baby I'm sure they don't need that much taking care of, how wrong I was

Carl- just one thing where is Claire, you haven't left her alone have you?

Matthew- I'm cradling her, the phone's on loud speaker, I know you should never leave babies by them selves

Half an hour later Carl arrives, Carl walks in to see Matthew cradling a small baby girl with jet black hair, here hair is all spiked up at the front

Carl- Oh Matthew she's beautiful I can't believe Sadie abandoned her.

Carl sees that the girl is fast asleep in Matthew's arms

Carl- see she's fast asleep

Matthew- yeah she fell asleep about two minutes ago I know Sadie must have some serious problems because there isn't a thing I won't do for this little girl here.


Carl- here's the milk

Carl stays with Matthew for an hour, soon after Carl leaves Claire wakes up, so Matthew makes the milk up, he starts to feed her

Matthew- here you go sweetheart Matthew burps her then she falls to sleep

22 years later, Matthew as been a great dad to Claire, Matthew is shocked when Claire told him she's getting married, Matthew can't handle that his daughter id growing up, Matthew still sees Claire as an sweet six yearv old girl wearting pig tales, the day of the wedding Sadie turns up and is determined to stop the wedding
Sadie- stop the wedding, Matthew stops her

Claire-...........

Sadie- I'm your mum

Claire- My mum! dad told me what you did, I don't care about you and I'm getting married. You may be my mum by name but I don't personaly know you. Dad's always been there when I needed him

During the cermony Sadie sits with Matthew, during the service Matthew starts crying

Sadie- hold it together

Matthew- I'll miss her, the house is going to be so quiet without Claire there, I can't handle this, I can't accept my little girl is growing up

Sadie- god I've never seen you like this

Matthew- well I looked after her since she was first born, I've fed her, bathed her, changed her nappies even wiped her tears when she was upset, usually about a boy. When Claire was 14 I started to become paranoid about boys, I started to protect her from the wrong guys. I knew what those guys wanted because that's what I wanted at their age then she got a little big older then I started to worry about meeting the right guy, I was always worrying about her it comes with the job I suppose, when Claire started going out I had many sleepless nights, I was always worrying if she's ok and where she is? I would have done anything to keep our daughter safe and sound. I love our Claire to bits, there is nothing I won't do for her.

After the wedding

Sadie- why didn't you tell me that Claire was getting married

Matthew- because it was nothing to do with you, you forfeited your right to be in our daughter's life when you walked out on us.

Sadie-Why didn't you come with me? I thought you loved me

Matthew- I do love you but there's someone who I love even more that's our Claire, how can you abondon your baby like that Sadie!

right since I've finished all my uni stuff i find the story and write some more,

back in the past it's just after the birth Sadie stops Tom and Matthew's brothers Carl and Jimmy from seeing the girl so when Sadie leaves Matthew went to stay with his dad for a couple of days

Tom is thrilled to bits when he finally meets Claire

Tom is at home when Matthew turns up with a suitcase a baby holder

Tom opens the door

Tom- Matthew are you all right son?

Matthew- Sadie's gone

Tom- Oh I'm so sorry..... what about the baby did she take her with her( then Matthew opens the back door of his car and picked up the baby holder with the fast asleep three week old baby girl)

Matthew- Can we stay for a few days?

Tom- you and Claire can staty has long has you want. Matthew gets into the house, he sits down on the sofa

Matthew- So then dad do you want to hold her?

Tom- I love to

Matthew gently lifts the sleeping baby girl out and gently puts her in Tom's arms

Tom- Oh she's beautiful

13 years later Matthew finds out that Claire has an boyfriend, Matthew decides it's time to talk to Claire about the birds and the bees

Matthew- Claire I need to talk to you, you've got a boyfriend so what's his name

Claire- he's called James, he's 15 years old

Matthew- he's what! he's 15, he's too old for you. I want to talk to you about the birds and bees, I hope your not having sex yet, you are way too young to get involved in boys

Claire- don't worry daddy I'm not having sex

Matthew- if James hurts you in any way he'll have me to answer to.

two months later after this Matthew comes home from work early he walks up stairs and he walks in and finds his 13 year old daughter in bed with James.

Matthew- WHAT THE HELL...... IS GOING ON HERE!

Claire- DAD! (embarrased)

Matthew- YOU! GET OUT OF MY DAUGHTER' BED

Matthew drags him out- SLING YOUR HOOK

James runs off

Matthew drags Claire out of bed and marches her around the doctors

Matthew- THAT'S IT YOUR GOING ON THE PILL!!

Claire-.............

Matthew- And your going to the All girls school in London

Claire-..... but........

Matthew and Claire march into the doctors- private doctors

Matthew- I need to see Doctor Jones tell him it's Mr Matthew King and his daughter to see him

Receptionist- Mr Jones there is a Mr Matthew King and his daughter to see you

Doctor- Ok send him through

Receptionist- Ok you can go through

Matthew walks in with his daughter

Doctor Jones- it's been along time, god.... last time I saw you Claire you were a tiny baby. You were only a couple of days old
Ok....... enough talk of memory lane what shall I do for you Mr King?

Matthew- first I need to get a morning after pill

Doctor- a morning after pill? what for you?

Matthew- No for rampant annie over there

Doctor-................. Ok then anything else?

Matthew- and I want to put her on the pill

Doctor- erm ok.......

The doctor gives Matthew his order

Sunday came and Matthew drive down to London with a furious little girl, Claire didn't say a word to Matthew the whole way down to London

Matthew when he dropped her off

Matthew hugged her and said see you princess, see you at christmas, I'm looking forward to it. Claire looks at him

Matthew- Look sweetheart you mean the world to me you know that. I know that your mummy really loves and cares about you, I know she's never around but that doesn't mean she doesn't love you.
Matthew- I know she loves you, she has sent you birthdays cards and christmas cards
Claire- No she hasn't
Matthew- yes she has but I hid them from you I thought they would upset you and I thought walking out on you on that day she gave up any right for a say in your life

Claire- you should not hide things from me let me make my own mind up about my mum.

Claire gets out of the car

Matthew a few hours later arrives back in emmerdale and it doesn't take long for Matthew to start to miss his little girl

A couple of months later Claire seems to be not settling in her new school so Matthew takes her out and puts her back in her old school

Claire came home from London for christmas with her dad

Matthew went to pick her up and when Claire saw Matthew

Claire- daddy! and she ran up to him and jumped into his arms

Matthew- God! did you miss me

Claire hugged him and said yeah....

Matthew hugged her more- I've missed you too......

Matthew- Come on grab your stuff

Claire grabs her stuff

Matthew while driving- after the christmas break you can go back to your old school

Claire- really thanks

Matthew- I would do anything to make my girl happy you know that and anyway I've missed you too much

Claire- Aww.... dad

Soon after Claire came back to her old school she got into a fight at her school, a girl started having a go about her mother abondoning her.

Girl- see your own mother didn't want you

Claire-..........

Girl- your mother was a *very *friendly* person my dad knew your parents, your dad is...... well great

Claire right hooked her and said MY MUM IS NOT A SLAG

Headmaster- right you two stop it, come on and he marches them into the headmaster's office

Headmaster- RIGHT BOTH YOUR PARENTS HAVE BEEN INFORMED!

girl- Don't you mean my parents and her dad!

Headmaster- SHUT UP MISS JOHNSON!

A hour later Matt furiously slams into the headmasters office

Headmaster- Oh hello there Mr King

Matt- OK...... WHERE IS SHE......

Headmaster shouted Claire, who was in the another room behind the headmaster's office

Claire walked in

Matt- CLAIRE MARY!

Claire thinks to herself- god I must be in trouble my dad never calls me that.

Matt- I'LL SORT THIS OUT and he grabs Claire by the arm and pushes out of the school building

Matt- ME AND YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE A TALK WHEN WE GET HOME

Matt and Claire get in the car

Matt sees that Claire who is sat in the back hasn't got a seat belt on

Matt- please put your seat belt on?

Claire just inored him

Matt- SEAT BELT! ON NOW!

Claire- Ok.... ok

Half an hour later Matt was just pulling into home farm

Matt drags Claire out of the car

Matt- INSIDE NOW!!!

Claire and Matt go in

Matt- LIVING ROOM NOW!

Jimmy and Carl hear Matt's shouting

Jimmy comes running down

Jimmy- what the hell is going on.....

Matt- Nothing for you to worry about- I'm just talking to Claire

Jimmy- shall I talk to her?

Matt- No! I can talk to my daughter by my self. I want a father daughter talk with her

Jimmy- Ok..... come on Carl, lets go down to the pub

Jimmy and Carl walk out

Matt walks into the Living room to see Claire cowering in a corner

Matt has seemed to calm down

Matt- I aren't going to hit you, I'm not a monster I can't hit my baby girl

Matt- sit down

Claire sits down

Matt- Ok then..... can you please tell me why you got into that fight. I couldn't believe it when your headmaster phoned me up today and told me, I couldn't believe it you never got into a fight before what's up sweetheart whatever it is you can tell me, I'm your father I'm here to help

Claire- erm....... someone was bullying me for not having a mum, but the final straw was when she called my mum a slag

Matt- Oh sweetheart- I'm so sorry, I know you are upset about your mum but there is no need for violence.

Claire- I know but she made me so angry

Matt- I once hit a man he was your mother's ex boyfriend, he came back Mum was eight months pregnant and he started to stalk her at one point he hit her and said something like your not having another man's baby. So me being over protective of your mother and you I hit him and he then realised that it was over between mum and himself so he said congratualtions to me, mother and myself kept in touch with him last thing I heard from him was he was living in Australia with his wife and they were expecting a baby
He asked about your mother so I told him what she did, he couldn't believe it, he asked about you, so I told hi you were fine.

Claire- aww that's sweet that you were over protective for me and mum

Matt-........ and by the way Claire you are grounded for 2 weeks

Claire- what that is so unfair

Matt-unfair shall make it four weeks

Claire- WHAT!

Claire- what did school do?

Matt- they were going to to suspend you but decided to put you in detention

Claire- Oh,

Matt- but don't think you are going to get off likely with this, I have told you that your grounded and you'll work with me after school and on weekends

Claire- dad.......

The next day it is Saturday. Matt wakes his daughter up at 7am

Matt- Claire! get up!

Claire- erm........ and looks at the time- god it's only 7o clock, I aren't getting up yet

Matt drags her out of bed and says while he is doing it- Oh yes you will

Claire gets up and ready

Matt- first start by cleaning up in the horses stables

Claire-what.... I aren't going to do that

Matt- YOU WILL DO WHAT YOU ARE TOLD
