Really sorry its taken so long to update, had loads of coursework, hope you all like it though!


'Male with severe head injury, hit and run' the paramedic said to a doctor as they got Carl off the back of the ambulance. 'And you are?' the doctor turned to Matthew, 'Im his brother' Matthew answered, 'Is he going to be alright?', 'We're gonna do everything we can to make sure of that' the doctor said, 'why dont you take a seat in the realtives room'.

'Look theres A and E' Scarlett said, as her Chas and Jimmy quickly ran to the building. 'Hi, er...my brother was brought in, he was hit by a car, Carl King', Jimmy said to the receptionist. 'Right, if you go and sit in the relatives room a doctor will be in to see you shortly', 'thanks' Jimmy said, and they made their way over to the room.
'Matt?' Jimmy said as he entered the room, Matthew looked up, his face was stained with tears, 'he wouldn't wake up Jim, the whole time in the ambulance he just laid there..still, not moving at all', 'look its ok' Jimmy said as he went over to him, 'Our Carls a fighter, you'll see', 'I tried Jim, i really did, he just wouldnt wake up' Matt said looking into his eyes, 'come here' Jimmy said, and hugged Matthew, 'It will be ok, dont worry....dont worry'. Scarlett and Chas had stood silently watching the scene infront of them, they both knew of these two men to be strong and real masculine, especially Matthew, and they couldnt believe the change in them.
They had all been sitting in the room for over half an hour when a doctor finally came in, 'Are you all hear for Carl King?' he asked, 'yeah how is he?' Matthew asked as they all stood up in anticipation. 'I'm afraid to say your brother is in a very critical state Mr King, he has suffered severe blood loss, a very serious head injury and he has still not gained consciousness. We will be moving him up to intensive care shortly, these next few hours are going to be critical, im sorry'. 'Whats the chances of him surviving this?' Jimmy whispered, his voice breaking. 'Well im not really sure..' 'Please' Matthew interrupted, 'Well to be honest... it will be a miracle if he makes it through the night' the doctor said and with that he left the room.
The room fell silent, they all were trying to take in what the doctor had just said, Carl could die at any moment and there was nothing anyone could do about it.

It had been 20minutes since the doctor had left the room, and not one word had been uttered since. The four of them just stood their in shock. Finally Jimmy spoke, 'look i know are all in shock, but we cant give up...theres still a chance he could survive', 'DID YOU NOT HEAR THE DOCTOR!' Matthew interrupted angrily, 'Its a miracle if he will make it through the night, A MIRACLE!..Lets face it, we've lost him'. 'No don't say that!' Scarlett screamed. 'I've only just started to know Carl, and he can't leave me too, he can't', She began to cry and Chas pulled her in for a hug. 'It's ok darlin, lets just think positive ok', This was the first time Chas had spoken, as she stood hugging Scarlett she realised just how much she had to loose. Since the break up she had always tried to put Carl at the back of her mind, and tonight she was going to do that for good, she was leaving and never going to have to see him again, but once again he had drawn her back to him, she just wished it had been in a different way.
'The Kings?' a nurse shortly entered the room, 'yes' Matt replied, 'You can see him now'. Matt looked at Jimmy as they all began to move towards the door. The walk to Carl's room felt like an eternity, but then they were there, stood outside his door. Sensing fear from the other three, Jimmy pushed open the door, 'come on guys, it will be ok'. As the door opened they could not believe what they saw, it didnt look like Carl at all. He was linked up to the machines and had loads of tubes coming out of him. 'O mate' Jimmy said, 'What have they done to you'. The four of them slowly made their way around Carl's bed, no one knew what to say, 'Hey why dont we all talk about the times we have had together with Carl' Jimmy suggested trying to lighten the mood, 'whats the point' Matt said, 'the point is' Jimmy replied 'that if this is his last night i want him to be hearing all of the good times and for us to remember them all, right i will start'. Jimmy started reeling off childhood stories, about when Carl had got stuck in a tree and when the family had all gone to the seaside for a holiday when their mum was still alive. Matt then started, ' One memory i will never forget mate, it was just me at the office and you came in with a massive smile on your face, and you just said 'I'm gonna be a daddy' mate you were so happy, and when Thomas came along you were an amazing dad, i know things changed but those years when it was good with you and colleen you were great' Matt started choking up 'Carl you've gotta wake up for them mate, Thomas and Anya, they need their dad, please mate wake up!' With that Matt started to sob, 'look i think we need a breather' Jimmy said and he took Matt outside. Scarlett and Chas were left in the room, Scarlett then started off her stories about how her and Carl use to play backgammon, and how he would always let her win...'I know we havnt been really close Carl, but i think we have started to get along a lot better' she gave a quick glance to Chas, 'You confided in me, and i will never forget that Carl, I just want the chance to get to know you more, just please wake up, I need my brother'. Chas put her arm around Scarlett, 'I'm gonna go and see where Matt and Jim are, give you a bit of time alone' Scarlett said, and she left the room. It was now just Chas and Carl, Chas just stared at him, she had been listening to all of his family stories, and she just remembered all the times they had had, the first time they had slept together after drinking too much tequila, his proposal hunt in the woods, him proving his love for her by doing the airshow, their reunion after his dad had died. There were just so many times, and she wanted so many more. It was in that moment that she realised just how much she still wanted this man and with that shebent in close to him and whispered into his ear 'Carl.....your the one'.

An hour later and they were all back in the room. They had decided to all stay the night incase anything happened. Scarlett and Jimmy were asleep with Scarlett's head resting on Jimmy's shoulder, and Chas and Matt were sitting on opposite sides of the bed just watching Carl's motionless body. Chas started fiddling with the bracelet Carl had got her, 'What's that?' Matt asked, 'It's what Carl was going to give me just before...' her words broke off as she could not finish the sentence, 'It says im the one' she finally spoke. 'Well not being funny, but i did wonder why you were still here and not off in Spain, he finally said it then' Matt said, 'You knew?' Chas asked. 'Chas it was obvious, he was gutted when he knew you were leaving and then there was the whole Ross thing. I know we have had our differences, but he's never got over you and its took me till now to realise that I just want him to be happy, and you make him happy Chas'. Chas could see the pain in Matt's eyes as he sat and watched his little brother, 'Matt I love him, and i dont want to do anything to hurt him, I never got over it either...I just....Oh why cant he wake up!' Chas started pushing Carl, 'Wake Up! Just Wake Up Please Carl Please!' 'Chas dont' Matt shouted, and he ran round to the other side of the bed. 'It will be ok' he said, as he restrained Chas and pulled her close to him, 'lets just see what happens'.
Chas woke up to the sound of beeping, 'Whats going on' she said, as she shook Matt awake, 'Matt somethings wrong, somethings wrong!' Matt, Jimmy and Scarlett all woke up as a Doctor and several nurses ran into the room. 'I'm going to have to ask you to step out of the room' the Doctor said as he pushed Carl's bed down flat, 'NO!' Chas screamed, 'Carl!', a nurse pushed the four of them out of the door and they were left alone in the corridor. 'Where the hell is that bloody miracle' Matt shouted.

Finally a Doctor came out of Carl's room, 'Please dont say he's dead, please please please don't!' Scarlett began to cry, 'sssh' Matt said, 'Let him speak'. 'Your brother is not dead' The doctor started, 'in fact he is doing a lot better than we had first anticipated', 'Oh thank god' Jimmy said smiling at Matt, 'I told you he was a fighter!'. 'Why were all those machines going off then? That cant have been good', Chas asked. 'Although it didnt sound good, it was the machines saying that Carl's heart rate and brain waves were becoming more natural, and we have to be alerted quickly to this in order to change his medication' the doctor explaned. 'So he's going to be ok?' Scarlett asked, 'Well i cannot say for definate, but it looks like the worse is over, looks like you got that miracle you wanted' he smiled.
Two hours later Jimmy and Matt were sitting around Carl's bed, he was still unconscious, and they were praying he would awake soon. Chas had taken Scarlett home for a shower and something to eat, neither of them had wanted to leave Carl, but Jimmy insisted they went and promised to call if there was any change.
'You ok now' Jimmy asked Matt, 'I've never seen you like that before'. 'Yeah i just...I just was so scared of losing him Jim, I know i dont show it but it gets to me how many people we have already lost in this family and for another one to be taken away its just not right', ' I understand' JImmy answered, 'To be honest I think this whole thing is gonna really push us together alot more, become a proper family, we need to look out for one another and...did you see that!', Jimmy said as he looked down at Carls hand, 'what' Matt asked, Carls arm flinched again, 'he's waking up Matt, he's waking up!'

Carl's eyes opened, and he began to cough from the tubing in his mouth. Just then a Doctor came in the room, 'ahhh nice to finally see you awake Mr King' he said as he removed the tubing. 'What..where...' Carl began to speak, 'hey kid' Jimmy started, ' You were hit by a car, but your alright now'. 'You had us worried' Matt chipped in, 'but we knew you would be ok, us Kings are fighters' he smiled. 'Do you remember anything from that night' jimmy asked Carl. 'Just little bits' he whispered, his throat still sore from the tubes, 'where was i hit?', 'outside the wooly' Matt answered, 'the buggers didnt even stop they hit you and drove off, but dont worry the police caught up with them'. ' I don't remember' Carl said, just then Scarlett and Chas walked in the room, ' Oh my god Carl ' Scarlett shouted and ran to give him a hug, 'ooo' Carl winced in pain, 'careful love' he smiled, 'sorry' Scarlett said and retreated back. Carl look at Chas and smiled, 'hey' she said, 'hey' he replied. Sensing the tension, Scarlett, Jimmy and Matt left the room, claiming they were going to get coffees. Chas walked over to the bed and sat down, 'you had us all worried' she said, 'sorry' Carl replied. 'Hang on, arnt you suppose to be in Spain or somewhere' Carl asked, 'yeah thats right, i remember you said something about a bar'. 'Yeah thats right' Chas smiled, 'but I couldnt leave you like this'. 'Well i guess you are able to go now' Carl answered, 'I appear to be ok'. He looked at the ceiling, he didnt know whether it was the right time to tell her about his feelings, and he didnt want to hold her back from travelling. 'Carl' Chas said softly, 'look at me', he turned to face her and she was smiling, 'is there nothing you want to say to me' she asked. 'What do you mean?' Carl said. Chas slid the bracelet off her wrist, ' well i was hoping you could explain this'. Carl's memory started flooding back, the talk he had had with Scarlett, having the bracelet engraved, going to the pub to stop Chas, the car metres away then bam! Carl looked at Chas, 'I was coming to stop you from leaving' he said and he turned to look at the ceiling again. 'I know' Chas replied, 'Scarlett told me everything'. 'Well that was nice of her' Carl said sarcastically, 'dont get angry with her' Chas said, 'If she hadnt of come after me I would have left, I didnt know you still felt like that, I was going', 'So why did you stay?' he turned to look at her again, ' she showed me the bracelet ', she answered 'and when i saw you lying here i knew how much i couldnt bare to loose you and how much i still loved you, and from the words on this bracelet and from what Scarlett had said i presumed you felt the same' Chas stopped, she had put herself out there and told him how she felt, she couldnt bare it if he turned her down now. 'I meant what was written on that bracelet, and everything I have said to Scarlett was true, but i wish you could have heard it from me' he said. 'Well why dont you say it now' she whispered, he smiled at her 'ok' he answered. 'Chas, I never stopped loving you, just things happened and stuff got on top of me, and i knew that by staying with you i would just end up hurting you more so i thought it was best to end it then. I know i did it in a horrible way, but it was the only way i knew you wouldnt come back, but i have regretted it every day since. Chas i love you so much it killed me to see you with other blokes, thats why when i saw how much Ross had hurt you i went mental, i just didnt want to see you in anymore pain.' Carl stopped, he looked at Chas, she had tears streaming down her cheeks, 'the bottom line is your the one, always have been, always will be' he smiled at her.
