Carl carried on walking, he couldnt believe it, she was leaving! He had no idea what he could do, he couldnt tell her how he really felt, but he didnt want her to leave. He began to head back home, what was the point of thinking anymore thought, its over, me and Chas are over.
When Carl got back to homefarm he went straight into the lounge to pour himself a scotch. 'Well someones starting early', Scarlett appeared behind him. As Scarlett watched her brother she could see his eyes were filled with tears, and he looked as if he was going to break down any second. 'Carl...are you ok?' Scarlett nervously asked, ' do you want me to get Matt or Jimmy?' 'No dont worry about it' Carl said, and he went and sat on the couch. Scarlett didnt really know what to do, her and Carl had never really been close, well they had never really talked before, but she didnt want to leave him like this. She went and sat next to him, 'Do you want to tell me whats wrong?', 'Its nothing, im fine' Carl said, Scarlett could tell he obviously wasnt, and she wanted to help him. 'Look Carl, i know we havnt been close but i just want to help you' she said 'You can tell me anything, and i swear i wont tell anyone'. Carl looked at his sister and smiled, 'Your a good kid' he said, 'but there are somethings you just wouldnt understand', 'Try me' scarlett said. 'Is it about Chas?' she asked 'Its just i heard that you had a bit of a thing in the pub with that bloke', 'yeah it is about her' Carl answered, 'Its just such a mess' he said and put his head in his hands. 'Whats the problem Carl? If you still love her then do something about it, lifes too short to stop doing the things you want to, just do whats right in your heart, whats stopping you?'. Carl was listening to what Scarlett was saying, but how could he turn around and tell his younger sister that the reason he couldnt get back with Chas was because he was scared that the fact that he murdered their dad might come out. 'I'm just scared' Carl finally answered, 'well you cant be scared for the rest of you life' Scarlett said. Carl looked up at Scarlett, she was right, he couldnt live the rest of his life being scared that this secret would come out. He knew Scarlett hadnt meant this, but this was what he interpreted as. He had killed his dad, but that was over, that was in the past, he couldnt carry on living in the past. Carl finally realised that he was so worried that Chas would find out that he hadnt realised that surely this would be the same for Scarlett, she had no idea what her brother had done, but if the secret came out she would be just as upset. So Carl thought that he was already in too deep, what ever happened someone is going to get hurt, so why should he not be with Chas? 'Thankyou' Carl said, and he got up and for the first time he hugged Scarlett, 'what are sisters for' she smiled back at him. 'Right ive gotta go and sort something out' Carl said and he quickly ran out of the house.

It was 8.00pm, Chas's leaving doo was in full swing, but there was no sign of Carl. Everytime the pub door opened Chas checked to see whether it was him, but it never was. Her taxi was coming at 9.00pm, she couldnt believe that she might have to leave without seeing him for one last time. 'Come on Chas!' shouted Debbie 'Ive got you another one in', Chas went to the bar and carried on with the drinking, well if he couldnt bother to see her then she wasnt going to waste anymore time thinking about him. Matt and Jimmy sat in the corner of the pub, 'Im surprised Carl is not here' Jimmy said, 'I would have thought after everything he said this morning he would have been here', 'yeah' Matt replied, 'but who knows where that man's head is half the time'.
Outside the pub Scarlett and Daz were walking up the road ready to go to the party, just then Carl's jeep pulled up near them and he got out smiling. 'Your looking happier' Scarlett said to him, 'well i took your advice' Carl said, 'look what ive got' Carl handed Scarlett a silver bracelet, and when she turned it over it read 'Chas, your the one'. ' Carl its beautiful' Scarlett said admiring the jewellery, 'O wait, you've gotta see the card ive got aswell' Carl said as he went to cross the road back to his car. Carl couldnt stop smiling, he was so happy. He was so excited, he was finally gonna tell Chas how he really felt, they could finally be together! Just as Carl was crossing Scarlett heard loud music come blaring into the village and she saw it was a car speeding down the road. 'Carl watch out' Scarlett shouted, ' What?' Carl turned to look, but as he did the Car swirved out of control and crashed straight into him. The car hit Carl straight on forcing his whole body to jump up and hit the front windscreen. The car was going that fast that Carl rolled completly over the top of the car and crashed hard back onto the ground. The car stopped for a split second then roared off through the village, leaving Carl lying motionless on the ground.

'CARL!!!' Scarlett screamed as she ran across the road towards her brother who was laying motionless sprawled across the middle of the road. 'O my god' Scarlett said as tears started flowing down her cheeks, 'Daz! Daz!' she screamed, but Daz was rooted to the spot fixated by the lifeless body that lay just a few metres away from him, 'Daz! you need to go and get help! please Daz!' Daz came out of his trance and realised he was needed, but he couldnt stop looking at Carl, 'I'll be back in a second' Daz shouted and ran towards the Wool pack. As Daz burst into the Woolpack he immediately saw Jimmy and Matthew sitting in the corner, 'Whoo wheres the fire?' Chas said jokingly, Daz just ignored her, 'You've gotta come quick' Daz said to Matt and Jimmy, 'Its Carl, hes been hit by a car'. Matt jumped straight up, 'Where?' he shouted, 'just outside' Daz replied as he started heading out of the door again. 'O my god' Dianne said to Chas, 'I hope its nothing serious' but Chas couldnt answer, she was in shock at what she had just heard. 'Ive gotta see him' she finally said and headed for the door. As Matthew and Jimmy got outside they saw Scarlett in the middle of the road crouching over a figure. 'O god' Jimmy said, and they both ran over. 'Carl! Carl! can you hear me mate?' Matt was trying to get a response from his brother, but Carl just lay still with his eyes closed. By this time everyone had started coming out of the pub to see what was happening. Chas made her way though the crowd, and suddenly she saw him, 'Carl' she whispered as she knelt down beside him, ' Carl, please wake up' Chas began to cry aswell, she couldnt hold back the emotion. 'Where the hell is the ambulance' Matthew jumped up and said, 'they said they would be here as quick as they could' Jimmy answered and clutched hold of his brother, 'It will be alright Matt'. Matt was always the strongest out of the brothers, as he felt he had the duty of looking after them, but now he couldnt be strong, he was letting his guard down. 'But what if hes not Jim? We cant loose someone else, not after mum, max and dad, not Carl too, please not Carl too' Matthew started to break down, he dropped to his knees and held Carls hand, Jimmy bent down too, just behind Matt and held hold of him, 'Its gonna be alright' he said, but he had began to cry too afraid of what was to come, 'we are not going to let anything else bad happen to this family'. The two of them stayed there by Carl's side holding his hand, whilst Chas was on the other side of him with Scarlett, they all could tell it was serious by the pool of blood that was surrounding Carl's head and the fact that he had showed no signs of movement since it had happened. Everyone wondered whether these were Carl's final moments.
