Short update to get me back into this!
Chapter V
DEAN
I’ve acted like a complete idiot. So what? That Gordon Livesy has decided to ask Chas out. Who the hell does he think he is? I just want to rip out his liver and shove down his throat and… I’m ranting again aren’t I? I never thought she would do it. She knew he liked her and she always used to pretend that she didn’t care. Maybe she doesn’t. Maybe she does. I don’t know what to think. Ever since that meeting with Mrs Edwards in Eolas, I hoped there was something there. I was almost certain there was. Evidently I was wrong.
I’m on my way to Physics – on my own. All my mates (including Chas) have sensed my dark mood and kept well out of my range. Physics is such a pointless subject. A crap teacher for a crap subject. We have a double on Thursday afternoon where we sit back and watch documentaries about Global Warming. Usually I sit at the back of the class with Chas, but I doubt that is what will happen today. She’ll be sitting on Gordon’s table.
I walk into the classroom. Well, when I say walk I mean storm, but you get the picture. Mr Bailey is at the front. He glares at me for my brazen attitude, so I smile sarcastically back.
“Excuse me Mr O’Riley?”
“What?”
“You’re late for my lesson.”
“Well observed.”
“I think an apology is in order, don’t you?”
“Not really.”
“Apologise.”
“How about no.”
“Dean! Out now! We will continue this conversation outside.”
“Argh!”
I walk out angrily, making sure the slams in his face before he follows me out.
“The rest of you! Quiet!”
He turns around quickly and walks out of the classroom.
“You think you’re being clever don’t you? You think you’re being cool in front of your friends.”
“I do actually.”
“You’re not.”
“Uh, yeah, I am.”
“Do not answer me back Mr O’Riley.”
“Whatever.”
“Mr O’Riley!”
“What?”
“It’s yes sir.”
I stay silent.
“You can show off in your own time, not in mine. Back inside.”
He pushes me back inside. Normally I would have made a scene involving an accusation of sexual abuse, but I’m not in the mood.
I look at the back of Chas’ head as I walk back in. She refuses to acknowledge me and completely blanks my presence.

This part is a bit boring, but as this story's A/U, you all need to get know my characters, particularly Dean. Hope you like it!
Chapter VI
CHAS
“Hey! Chas!” Instinctively I turn at the call of my name. Damn. It’s a guy with black hair and silver eyes. Dean. I turn back around and carry on walking down the corridor, trying my hardest to ignore him.
That's what I've been doing on a daily basis now. Totally blanking his existence.
Since that afternoon in Physics, Dean has been… I don’t know… just… well, weird. Sometimes he pretends I don’t exist, others he gives me daggers, and sometimes just randomly shouts at me for stupid things, like the fact it’s raining. And then he acts like nothing’s happened. What is wrong with him? What the hell have I actually done wrong? I don’t get it. I really don’t get it. I mean, is it because I’m going out with Gordon? I know he doesn’t like him, but seriously, acting like a complete lunatic over it is a bit OTT.
He’s been seeing more girls than usual. Normally, he just does it whenever he feels like it or he’s got something on his mind. It’s not exactly hard to find someone to do it with, practically every girl in the school wants him – he’s hot, he’s funny and he’s popular.
I pretend it doesn’t bother me, but deep down, it – OW!
“Stupid hairbrush… if I wanted to pull all my hair out, I’d get some chemical to do it for me, not wind it around a brush.” I mutter to myself darkly. I'm getting ready for school, and Leah's waiting at the corner for me. Crap, I've only got a few minutes.
“Chas!” Oh great. It’s Cain, my dearest older brother. I really cannot be bothered to have another row with him now. “Chas, what the f-ck are you doing?” He struts into the middle of my room.
“Prancing around in pony land. What the hell do you thing I’m doing?”
“Going f-cking insane the sound of it.”
“Oh aren’t you a funny one?”
“I try my best, but really it just comes nat – are you going to get a longer skirt or do you want to be a classed a first degree sl-t?!”
“We can’t afford it.”
“Nick one then.”
“I’m quite happy with this one, thanks.”
“But – “
“I’m going to school.”
“Not with that Dean.”
“No, he hates me right now.” And as I speak I can feel a lump rise in my throat. What is wrong with me today? I swallow quickly, and thankfully my voice didn’t waver.
“Oh yeah? Why’s that?”
“Is that code for ‘Chas, I want to die, please kill me now’?”
“I’ve got a right to know. You’re my little sister, and I want – “
“Yeah, yeah. Less of the protective brother talk before I remove your ability to have children.”
“Violence, dear sister gets you nowhere.”
“And you’d know all about that, right?”
“Too right. I’m addicted to violence, and look at me, the sodding prime minister of Ireland.”
“Ok, I’m going. I said I’d meet Leah at the corner.”
“Fine. Ditch me for some sad little year 10. See if I care.”
“I love you really. See you later!”
Cain’s been a lot more relaxed lately. He doesn’t seem to fly off the handle at me anymore. And while I’m quite attached to the new Cain, I want the old one back. Okay, so that probably seems completely crazy, but this new, calm, happy Cain is not the Cain I know. It worries me. Something’s not right.
I keep wondering what he’s hiding from me. I know it’s not drugs – he would have no qualms about bringing them into the ‘family home’. Ha. Our family home. It’s a two-bed council semi, complete with broken cooker, damp walls and no central heating. It’s awesome. Not.
Anyway, I’d better get going. I grab my school bag off the table and walk out the front door. On my way out, I see Dad sprawled out in the hallway. He smells off stale beer and… things I don’t want to think about. I close the front door behind me. The wind whips my hair out of my face – why does it always have to be windy all the bloody time? Good, I can see Leah, just. She’s so short – I’m not exactly what you’d call tall, but Leah is a midget.
“Oi! Short-arse!” Aren’t I polite?
“Where the hell have you been? I’m bloody freezing here!”
“What a welcome! I drag myself out of bed, at 8 in the f-cking morning, and you complain – “
“Well we’re gonna be late now anyway. So pass me your maths book.”
“My maths – oh sh-t!”
“Argh, what? I was gonna copy off you!”
“Me? Since when did I do homework?”
“Good point. Looks like we’re in for another detention tonight.”
“As long as Dean’s not there I don’t give a damn.”
“What is with him at the moment? He never talks to us anymore.”
“He talks to you, doesn’t he?”
“Not in your presence. And even when we’re alone, it’s just, like, the niceties.”
“Oh. That sucks.”
“Yep. And it’s all your fault, sister.”
“No it isn’t! He’s so f-cking annoying! I can’t talk to him; I can’t even bloody look at him without him doing his nut. Or he ignores me. And then when – “
“Has it ever occurred to you that he might be jealous?”
“Why would he be jealous of me?!”
“Not jealous of you, you silly cow. Of Gordon!”
“Gordon? What about – oh. You cannot be serious!”
“Well, why not? You’re pretty, clever in a I-can’t-be-arsed way, popular – “
“Steady on, before I get the wrong idea.”
“Shut up, Chas. You tell me this every day. And that’s another thing that makes you perfect for Dean. You’re both obnoxious, arrogant, bigheaded gits.”
“Sheesh. Thanks a bunch Lee.”
“Anytime. But anyway, please sort it out, cos it’s like the rest of us have to take sides.”
“I’m not forcing you to do anything!”
“You know what I mean. Connor feels really bad. He’s stuck in the middle cos he’s the go between of you and Dean. And Oran… Oran is seriously p-ssed off, full stop.”
“So what are you saying?”
“I’m saying that it’s not fair on us if you both don’t get something sorted.”
“I never told you all to pick sides! And Keira’s not bothered.”
“That’s because Keira doesn’t know what’s going on. She wouldn’t have a clue if Dean turned up with a purple head tomorrow.”
“She’s actually that stressed about a bloody GCSE module?”
“Uh huh. But that’s not the point. The point is – “
“That I need to talk to Dean.”
“You got it.”
“What if I think he needs to talk to me first? I never did anything wrong!”
“Chas… he’s your best mate. Apart from me, obviously.”
“So? He’s a stupid, arrogant, sh-tty – “
“Chas, do not finish that sentence.”
“Why not?”
“Because – “
“Alright Lee?”
I hadn’t realised we were outside school. And Dean was walking towards us, his eyes deliberately turned away from me.
Lee’ and Dean walked together, talking about some English homework that was supposed to in for today. Lee’ gave me a pleading look and gestured for me to follow. I shook my head faintly. My heart seemed to drop a few centimetres. I smiled bitterly to myself and slouched off to the lockers.
