Soapstars and radio presenters are going head to head in a battle for cricket pitch supremacy. BBC Radio Cleveland presenters will take to the field at Bishop Auckland on Sunday to do sporting battle with a team from ITV soap Emmerdale. Lining up for the 1pm match at the Bishop Auckland Cricket Club will be Chris Chittell, who plays Eric Pollard, Patrick Mower, who plays Rodney Blackstock, and John Middleton who plays village vicar the Rev Ashley Thomas. Batting for BBC Radio Cleveland will be presenters Brigid Press and Gobstopper's Mark Drury, sports reporter Len Brewer and BBC Look North's weather forecaster Paul Mooney. Bishop Auckland Cricket Club's Harry Smurfwaite will join the BBC side for the day. As well as the sporting attraction there will be children's rides, a bouncy castle, an inflatable assault course, a bucking bronco and a giant slide. There will also be the chance to win a signed Durham CCC bat and a Middlesbrough FC football in a raffle. Fun starts at 10am. * Tickets £2.50 for adults, £1 for children, family ticket £5, available from BBC Radio Cleveland, Newport Road, Middlesbrough, and Bishop Auckland Cricket Club, Kingsway, Bishop Auckland (every evening from 7pm) and from the BBC Bus on location.
