EMMERDALE star Richard Thorpe is swapping the bar at the Woolpack for another venue known for its beer—Oakwood Technology College.
Organisers of the Oakwood Real Ale and Music Festival have confirmed that Mr Thorpe—better known as Woolpack landlord Alan Turner—will be among the 7,000 drinkers expected at the beer extravaganza between February 18 and 21. And the festival will have a strongly Irish flavour after organisers also announced this week a key diplomat from the Republic of Ireland will launch the South Yorkshire Irish Festival during the Oakwood event. Ireland's deputy ambassador to the UK, Sean Murray, will raise a glass after meeting council chiefs to discuss forming closer links between Rotherham and the Irish Republic. Festival visitors can sample a range of 200 real ales, 30 different wines, 20 ciders and a range of food while taking in folk, rock and circus acts across four different stages. Tickets cost £6 on the door or £5 in advance from the college. q Weekend Workout has ten pairs of tickets to give away. See this week's Advertiser.
