From Leeds Today
By Vicki Robinson
THEY'RE more used to the sedate surroundings of the Yorkshire Dales.
But on Thursday, stars of Emmerdale will be swapping their wellies and waterproofs for gladrags and glitter when they take part in the YEP-backed Stars Behind Bars event.
Tipped to be one of the hottest dates in the calendar, the event will see stars of stage and screen take over a city centre bar for the evening. And rather than being waited on – they'll be the ones serving up the drinks.
It's all in aid of the Sick Children's Trust which provides accommodation and practical support for relatives of poorly youngsters being treated in hospital.
The charity – which receives no official funding – has a 16-bedroom unit at St James's Hospital in Leeds. Nationally, it helps around 3,600 families every year.
Stars Behind Bars has been held for four years in London and has been a huge money-spinner for the Sick Children's Trust.
This is the first time it has been held in Leeds and organisers are hoping it, too, will help raise thousands for the cause.
Newsreader
Along with actors and actresses from Emmerdale, ITV newsreader Christine Talbot – who hosts the regional news programme Calendar – will be serving.
Several other famous faces are being kept under wraps until the night itself.
Celebrities who have taken part in the past include model and presenter Lisa Snowdon, Big Brother winner Kate Lawler, EastEnders actor Jake Maskall (Danny Moon) and DJ Lisa Loud.
Lisa said: "I had so much fun taking part in Stars Behind Bars, it was an amazing event – and it was great to do something a little bit different in the name of fundraising."
The evening takes place from 7.30pm on Thursday at Firefly in Park Row. Tickets, priced £10 each, have been selling out fast, but there are some still available.
To buy yours, call into Firefly or call 020 7791 2266 to order tickets over the phone. Alternatively e-mail roz@sickchildrenstrust.org for more information.
Organiser Roz Tennant said: "Not only will you get to mingle with the celebs, but you can also win some great prizes.
"There really is no better excuse for a great night out as all the money raised will go directly towards The Sick Children's Trust."
