Star backs hospice night of music
HIS on-screen character is part of a ruthless business family who will stop at nothing to get what they want. But Emmerdale actor Tom Lister, who plays Carl King of King and Sons, proved he is far more compassionate when he visited a hospice yesterday.
Tom took time out to visit Derian House Children's Hospice in Astley Village. He chatted to staff and children, toured the facilities and signed autographs to promote the hospice's spectacular music extravaganza planned for June 17.
Pictures in the Park, a night at the movies with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, is a huge outdoor concert planned for Astley Park. Tom's business character made him the perfect choice to launch the corporate hospitality side of the event.
Companies can enjoy a champagne and canape reception in Astley Hall, followed by a four-course dinner in the themed corporate marquee in the park.
Tom, 27, of Ingleton, said: "I think the hospice is fabulous. It's got a fantastic atmosphere. Meeting the staff and seeing the facilities I think the work they do here is wonderful. It's humbling really."
Tom plans to attend Derian House's summer fair on June 10-11 as well as the main event: "Everything that goes on here is done to such a high quality. In order to keep that up and to broaden their skills and the facilities, so much money is needed."
Yesterday Tom signed a portrait created by Jackie Williams, of event sponsors Primary Graphics, which will be auctioned on the company's website, with the highest bidder invited to a champagne reception before the concert and the chance to hopefully meet Tom and accept the framed original.
Concert organiser Susie Poppitt said: "We are thrilled that Tom has agreed to come along to the hospice and help us to launch the corporate side of our event. We couldn't have wished for a better person."
