From South Tynside today.
BAND READY TO SHAKE THINGS UP
A TV soap star and his musical cohorts will be singing the blues in South Tyneside next week.
Shake Ya Tailfeather will perform at the Customs House next week in a show featuring their unique blend of rhythm and soul.
Formed last year, the seven-piece band, which features Emmerdale star Dale Meeks on vocals, have proved a hit both at home and away.
Bassist Iain Cunningham, 27, said: "We got the idea back in 1998 when we were performing the play the Machine Gunners in Edinburgh.
"We originally had three ideas, one was to do murder mysteries, one was to do theatre group Boyle-Yer-Stotts and the other one was to put a band together called Shake Ya Tailfeather.
"We did the other two straight away, but the band was put on the back burner.
"Then when Dale landed Emmerdale he couldn't be part of Boyle-Yer-Stotts anymore, but said 'I'd really like to do things, so why not get the band together'."
Using contacts within the South Shields amateur scene, the band began to take shape.
Meeks, 30, would be lead singer, Cunningham on bass with South Shields lads Wayne Miller on rhythm guitar and Paul Westgate on drums.
Joining them would be Mark Fairley on saxophone, Ian Trollope on keyboard and Ian Brown on lead guitar.
The lads added that being such close friends has proved essential in their success.
Mr Miller, 27, added: "A lot of other bands have lots of problems internally because they don't actually get on with each other.
"But when we eventually started jamming it clicked, just like a band should be."
After their first gig at the Trimmers Arms, Commercial Road, word of mouth played a major key in attracting the right crowd.
Performances at the Cookson Festival led to a number of charity gigs, including a set at Old Trafford in Manchester for the Blossom Appeal.
Although the lads are keeping tight-lipped as to whether they'll rattle out a few tunes at Mr Meek's wedding to fiancée Lisa-Marie Flynn, from Burnley, next year, they promise not to disappoint on Friday, June 9.
n Tickets for the show, at 7.30pm, are priced £8.50 (£7.50 concs) and are available from the box office on 454 1234.
