Soap's Mr Nasty in charity climb bid
(Daily Record Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)EMMERDALE'S Mr Nasty will show a nicer side when he tackles one of Scotland's most famous climbs for charity - even though he is terrified of heights.
Chris Chittell, who plays dodgy dealer Eric Pollard in the ITV soap, will attempt the OldMan of Hoy onOrkney next month for charity.
Despite his vertigo, the 57-year-old is determined to conquer the 450ft sandstone sea-stack, the islands' best known landmark.
For the last two months, in between his gruelling filming schedule, he has undertaken an intensive rock-climbing course.
And during his climb, which will be filmed for a documentary, he'll be helped by top climber French-Algerian Catherine Destivelle, 44, who has completed a solo ascent of the route. Chris said: "It is a little bit scary for me. I have never done anything like this.
"It is still early days and I have a long way to go. Rock climbers can hold on to the the tip of a ballpoint pen and think that is safe - I'm not quite at that stage yet."
Former England cricketer Bruce French has also been helping Chris prepare with a series of tough climbs in the Dales.
But the actor admitted he still doesn't know what to expect.
He hopes to raise money for the charity UCAN, who are planning to open a centre for people with urological cancers in the north of Scotland.
Chris has already raised thousands of pounds in other charity events, including running through the deadly heat of the Jordanian desert three years ago.
I have a mate who lives on the island who likes taking photos, if he can he said he'll take some and send me.
