EMMERDALE star Jenna Coleman was in Penrith this week for the launch of Cumbria’s learning ‘Oscars’.
The 20-year-old appeared at Rheged with her off-screen boyfriend and former colleague on the soap, Karl Davies.
Jenna, who plays teenager Jasmine Thomas in the ITV show, gave a speech at the opening of nominations for the Learning and Skills Council’s Excellence in Cumbria awards.
The awards, run by Learning and Skills Council Cumbria, have six individual categories, each aimed at recognising and rewarding people who have excelled at learning.
Sarah Thomas, 20, from Currock, last year’s winner of the youth achievement category, said the prize had given her the confidence to go on and try new things.
She broke off her studies at Carlisle College when she became pregnant and won the award after returning to complete her BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care.
Now Sarah is training as a nurse at St Martin’s College and she said determination was crucial to her progress.
