EMMERDALE hunk Matt Healy has confessed that his screen lover Patsy Kensit is "a great kisser".
Matt, 38, who plays bad boy Matthew King in the ITV1 soap, proposes to Patsy's character Sadie King next Thursday, but disaster strikes when she is trapped in the rubble after a house explosion, to be screened the following day.
Matt told us: "It’s been great to be her screen lover – blokes who recognise me in the street think I'm great because I have kissed Patsy Kensit. And I have to say that she's a great kisser."
The actor - who has been romantically linked to co-star Emily Symons - says he will miss the former Mrs Liam Gallagher when she quits the show later this summer and defects to BBC1 to join Holby City.
And Matt admits he makes special preparations before a snog-fest with Patsy, revealing: "I always make sure I clean my teeth and have a Polo mint at hand.
I try not to eat anything with garlic or a curry the night before. Sometimes I have forgotten but she hasn’t told me off yet.
"I’ll be sad to see her go as we have been working together for nearly three years – but I am sure Matthew with his romantic track record will find someone else".
He added: "It was odd doing the proposal scene as I’ve never proposed in real life. I guess I’m still waiting for Miss Right."
Matt won’t reveal whether Sadie perishes in the disaster at the opening of the King’s show house on a new building development.
Emmerdale bosses have confirmed that six characters – Sadie, Jimmy King, Diane Sugden, Noreen Bell, Dawn Woods and Danny Daggert are trapped in the rubble – and at least two die.
Matt said: "It's one of the biggest ever storylines for the show. The explosion scene took three days to set up and the director was very nervous as we only had one chance to get it right.
"It was a hell of a bang and it’s really spectacular. Viewers will see me scrabbling at the rubble in my suit when Matthew realises that Sadie and Jimmy are trapped.
"Cynics might think he’s trying to recover the £25,000 engagement ring that he’s bought Sadie!"
Having joined the cast in early 2004, Matt did think about quitting acting after spending 18 months working as a courier while playing a string of small parts.
He said: "I thought things couldn’t get any worse but now I’m thoroughly enjoying myself. I’m contracted for at least another six months and I’m happy to stay for the foreseeable future.
“But you never know with a soap, I guess I’m frightened of being killed off. It’s always in the back of your mind.Your fate can be changed overnight if something happens to your character.
“I think for the moment the disaster brings the family together and there is the likelihood of Matthew and his dad Tom facing corporate manslaughter charges in the coming months.”
One thing Matt is confident of though is that the hour-long explosion special will hot up the ratings war with rival soap EastEnders.
He beamed: "We always do very well head-to-head with EastEnders and I think we could beat them again."
