EMMERDALE’s James Hooton doesn’t fancy further appearances on cookery shows after his culinary disasters on Soapstar Superchef.
The actor, 33, who plays Sam Dingle in the ITV1 soap, told us: “I appeared in two shows with Andy Devine who plays Shadrach Dingle and we were dreadful!
“We were slaughtered in one by Peter Martin and Meg Johnson who play Len and Pearl in Emmerdale when we tried to make pasta.
“In another show we were beaten by two Hollyoaks In The City guys including Philip Olivier whose mum apparently is a chef.
“We’re not cooks and we were expected to lose. It was a good experience but it may not be repeated!”
While his culinary talents may be debatable, James’s acting skills are not in doubt, especially with his emotion-charged performances in the past 12 months.
In that time, his character Sam has seen his wife Alice die from cancer and his baby son Samson has been hit by meningitis.
It’s no surprise that James has been nominated for a best actor gong in the British Soap Awards.
He told us: “It’s nice to be nominated as I have had continuously tragic storylines for the past 18 months. It’s lovely to get some recognition for your work.”
