Fashion victim!
Kelly manages to turn a comical disaster into an exciting new opportunity.
She may dream of becoming Hotten's next top model, but Kelly Windsor's ambitions come literally crashing down around her ears this week, as a modelling job goes horribly wrong. After she's booked to help promote a range of power tools, Kelly's left looking like the biggest tool on show when she loses control of a hedge trimmer and almost scalps the audience - before bringing the scenery crashing down on to her head!
"Kelly being Kelly, it was always bound to end in disaster!" laughs Adele Silva, who plays the wannabe model. "She really wants to get her career going again, but nothing ever goes smoothly for her."
Nevertheless, determined Kelly starts the week with some high hopes.
"Her agent, Ricky, doesn't go into much detail," explains Adele. "But he gives Kelly the impression that it's a really glam gig he's got for her. It's no wonder he doesn't let on that the job's an in-store equipment demonstration - there's no way she'd accept it if she knew that beforehand!"
Unaware of what she's let herself in for, Kelly's quick to start bragging to anyone who'll listen about her 'big break'.
"Ricky's convinced her that it's a catwalk event," says Adele. "So she starts boasting to Viv about it and invites Donna along, thinking they'll both be able to help themselves to the racks of free clothes she imagines will be on offer!"
But Kelly arrives at the venue to find that it's less DKNY and more DIYSOS...
"She's horrified to see that the place is a dirty warehouse," Adele reveals. "Then the sleazy store manager hands her a pair of hot pants and tells her to get on with it!"
It doesn't compare with Paris Fashion Week, but in true professional style, Kelly decides that the show must go on.
"She only agrees to go on stage after the manager ups her fee," shares Adele. "But after that, she decides that she might as
well just for it.In fact once she gets going she has a whale of a time.
"Meanwhile, the manager is a total creep," she continues. "He makes a degrading comment about women beir rubbish at DIY, and it really gets Kelly's goat. She thinks, 'I'll show you!'."
Unfortunately, Kelly's efforts to silence the bloke only end up underscoring his sneers that women & power tools do not mix.
''She switches on the hedge trimmer to demonstrate that she knows how to use it'' grins Adele.
"But it's a massive tool, and she can't control it. Within seconds, she's swingir it wildly over the heads of the audience. and then brings the stage scenery down on top of her after sawing through a rope "The whole thing's very funny," adds • actress. "I can't wait to watch the scent myself, because we had such fun filming it. It was hard to keep a straight face."
Poor Kelly's not laughing, though, and her mortifying modelling experience isn't the end to her humiliation.
"Kelly's hoping that she can forget all about it," sighs Adele. "But by the end of the week, the incident is all over the internet, thanks to an audience member who filmed it on their phone!"
And Kelly's cheeks begin to burn as the villagers revel in her embarrassment.
"She's completely humiliated," groans Adele. "Paul can't help taking the mick, and of course Sharon's loving it. It's quite sad in a way that Kelly can't see the funny side, but she wants people : to admire her, and for her fiance, Jimmy, to be proud, so she's not a happy bunny." However, Adele's pleased to report that Kelly has the last laugh just this once - when she becomes an unlikely internet star! "Loads of people see her antics on the net, and 'power-tool girl' gets quite a cult following," she smiles. "Kelly gets booked for loads of modelling jobs as a result, and ends up enjoying a happy ending for once!"
