Emmerdale star Liz Estensen enjoys a blast from the past in this week’s A MOMENT IN TIME. The actor, who plays Woolpack landlady Diane Sugden, revisits the beach at South Gare near Redcar with photographer/presenter Neil Atkinson.
But the icy winds near the mouth of the River Tees are far from her childhood memories of sunny days with her father. Liz chose the view when Neil asked her what treasured place she would like to have captured on camera.
The striking picture he comes up with is a view reminiscent of the Antarctic but when Liz is presented with the framed print on the Emmerdale set in Leeds she loves it.
She also likes the portrait Neil took of her in among the green fishermen’s huts near the dunes. It’s hardly a typical celebrity photoshoot but he captures the windswept moment perfectly.
Musician John Harle chooses a far more sedate location for his favourite place. The world renowned saxophone player and composer has worked with Sir Paul McCartney and has written the scores for TV programmes including ‘The History of Britain’ and ‘Silent Witness’.
He takes Neil to the Clocktower Restaurant at Wallington where his parents used to take him on Sunday afternoons. It was here that he heard Northumbria pipes for the first time - an experience that was to inspire him to pursue a career in music.
Before Neil takes his picture on the famous stone h
eads in the grounds, John treats visitors to the National Trust property to an impromptu saxophone performance in the grounds. Appropriately it’s an improvisation on a Northumberland folk tune.
Neil travels to John’s home in Highgate, London to present him with the two framed prints.
The ITV Tyne Tees website (www.tynetees.tv) includes photographs featured in A MOMENT IN TIME as well as extra information for the technically minded.
A MOMENT IN TIME is produced and directed by Steve Robins. The executive producer is Jane Bolesworth. It is an ITV Tyne Tees production.
