Claire was on this morning on 8th Feb.
Soaps number 1soap super bitch joins us to talk about her updated autobiography which reveals the 'secrets behind the sequins' from her time on Strictly Come Dancing and her feelings towards Bob Geldof after he denied ever knowing her. She is also here to tell us why we will be seeing more of her amongst the wildlife on BBC2's Safari School.
Safari School
Safari School sees 8 celebrities undertake a gruelling, 4 week ranger-training course at Shamwari Game Reserve in South Africa. The 4 men and 4 women set to be Safari School Trainees are; former Eastenders actress Brooke Kinsella, actors Jeremy Sheffield (Holby City, Wedding Date); Paul Usher (Brookside, The Bill) and Blair McDonough (Neighbours, The Match), Fame Academy vocal coach Carrie Grant, Jan Leeming (I'm a Celebrity), Olympic athlete Jamie Baulch and Claire King. The rookie rangers will live together in a rustic lodge and train from dawn to dusk. The reality show is presented by Dr. Charlotte Uhlenbroek. Each week the two worst performers face a head-to-head challenge to keep their place on the course. Claire said, "I went out of my way to get on the show, I just adore South Africa, it’s an amazing country. If I wasn't an actress then I would have loved to work on a game reserve, I just find nature so incredible. It was great to see the animals up close, the elephants and hippos were fantastic, but by far my favourite animals were the lions and leopards-they just took my breath away."
On being a crack shot
One of the most important roles on the game reserve is the Anti Poaching Patrols. Claire and the other celebs had to learn how to fire semi-automatic weapons: "I live in the country so I've been shooting before, but only with a shot gun, not a rifle which we used in South Africa. I wasn't bad, actually I think I was pretty good, I was the best amongst all the girls!"
Confessions Of A Bad Girl (Due out 21st Feb)
The book has been updated with the 'secrets behind the sequins' from her time on Strictly Come Dancing including behind the scenes gossip and details of Claire and Brendan's explosive first meeting and their fiery partnership and what went on backstage, the updated book also addresses Claire's feelings towards Bob Geldof's reaction to her revealing their relationship in her book (he denied knowing her). "The book is coming out in paper back so I thought I would update it with some gossip about my time on Strictly Come Dancing and a few other things, including what I think of Bob Geldof."
Her Weight Loss
Claire thanks the series for getting her in tip top shape: "I did lose a lot of weight throughout the competition, but the fat turns to muscle and now I am just super toned instead of being skinny, which I personally prefer. I live in the country so I don't go to the gym, I just jump on my horse or walk my dogs, any exercise I get is for pleasure so its not tedious, I'm lucky that I love being outdoors."
Her Arthritis
Claire admits that Strictly Come Dancing was the hardest thing she's ever done. “Having arthritis was actually one of the reasons that I decided to take part in the show-I wanted to prove to myself that I could do something that physical, so I just went for it." Claire says that she was 30 when she started to get pain in the knuckles of both hands, after the symptoms persisted she went for X-rays which showed that her knuckles were so swollen and stretched that they had almost come out of their sockets. Claire says that she keeps the pain at bay by taking MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane), a naturally occurring form of sulphur which helps maintain cartilage and joints. She is adamant that its not going to stop her from doing anything "I am not a quitter and I don't want sympathy because I have arthritis, I've never let my illness get in the way of anything."
A Desperate Housewife?
There have been rumours that Claire is set to appear in the hit US TV series Desperate Houswives as Edie Britt's secret English sister "I am going over to meet with the producers of the programme later in the year, but I don't know what role they want to talk to me about, but I would absolutely love to get the chance to appear in Desperate Housewives-I love the series!"
Children’s Society Trek
Claire is taking part in a 12 day trek in South Africa from Nov 17th-28th to raise money for The Children's Society. "I'm really looking forward to it and I love South Africa, so I see it as a chance to give something back."
