Actor to launch fun run
By Jeff Weaver (The Gazette)
WELL known Bristol-based actor Norman Bowler will be in Oldbury-on-Severn next month to start the village's annual Fun Run.
The seasoned stage and screen performer, recognisable from countless TV roles recently including Frank Tate in Emmerdale, will be setting runner and walkers on their way from the Anchor Inn on Sunday, June 17. He will also be presenting prizes when participants cross the finishing line at the village's other hostelry, The Ship.
"Norman is a very well known face and we're really pleased he will be with us on the day," said Keith Sullivan, chairman of the committee which has taken over organising the popular annual event, the biggest of its kind in the South West. "As well as the four mile race itself, this year's event will include many additional attractions to make it a full day of fun."

For the first time the race will feature a second start, ten minutes after the first, to give children and families - and those who prefer a slower pace - a chance to avoid the crush.
The race will once again be raising funds for children's cancer charity CLIC Sargent while proceeds from other activities on the day will boost local charitable causes.
As well as the usual fancy dress competition at the start of the run, the 2007 event will also feature a tug of war competition, a beer festival, family treasure hunt, live music trade stalls and an art exhibition.
Race entrants can pick up registration forms from Bonds Estate Agents or Elite Fitness Centres, both in Thornbury, or by visiting www.thornburyrunningclub.co.uk.
