Just to warn y'all we're getting to the end of this. The ending itself is nothing special and pretty predictable tbh, but tis quite sad. So about 3 updates to go people!

Sorry about the lack of updates, I'm been a bit sick over the last couple of weeks, but here's an update! It's depressing, and not so good, but I hope you like it anyway. It's the 3rd last one so another 2 more and I'm done ;D Feedback is adored!
Chapter XI
Slowly And Steadily, Death Wins The Race [/b]
As the weeks passed, Chas and Carl became closer than ever before. But with each moment of newfound intimacy, Carl grew weaker. His morning headaches began to get last longer and the paracetamol he took as a remedy was beginning to fail. His overall sense of balance had deteriorated even further and although he had good and bad days, the number of bad days was beginning to exceed the number of good days.
No more had been said on the subject of Carl’s assisted suicide. Carl felt uncomfortable at bringing the topic back up, and Chas had no intention of agreeing to it.
But her resolve was weakening. She could see his suffering, the constant pain. She wanted to help him, but at the same time she didn’t want him to leave.
When the sun shines, we’ll shine together
Told you I'll be here forever
Said I'll always be a friend
Took an oath I'ma stick it out till the end
How To Save A Life
“You shouldn’t have lied to me.”
“What about?”
“You know… the…”
“Cancer? You can say the word, you know. It’s not taboo or anything.”
“Yeah. That. You should have told me it was terminal.”
“I didn’t want to worry you.”
“And you think the fact that you weren’t gonna have the chemo didn’t?”
“Okay, I should have told you. So shoot me.”
“No thanks.”
“What?”
“You said shoot… never mind.”
A pause.
“Chas?”
“Yeah?”
“I’m tired.”
“Go to bed then.”
“No, I meant tired of this.”
“Oh, I’m sorry, am I boring you?”
“No.”
“Well what then?”
“I’m tired of life.”
“Carl…”
“If you love me, you’ll do this for me.”
“I do love you, it’s just… I don’t…”
“Please.”
“I… fine. Fine… I’ll do it.”
“Thank you. Thank you so – “
“Don’t thank me. Just don’t say anything.”
Silence.
“How… how are… what do you…”
“Morphine.”
She shuddered at the word.
“… how am I supposed to get it?”
“I’ve been treated with it. I, uh, saved it up.”
“You did what?!”
“Chas, don’t. Not now.”
“When do you want to?”
“Tonight!”
“Tonight. Tonight, it’ll be over. Finite.”
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Okay, so you probably all think I'm dead [which I'm not, lol] but I have the first half of the final chapter! T'is quite sad, but even so, I hope you like it!!

Chapter XII
Into The West: Part I
Lay down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
You’ve come to journey's end
Sleep now
And dream of the ones who came before
They are calling
From across the distant shore
“I’m tired.”
“Not yet.”
“Will you go get it for me please?”
“Now?”
“Now.”
Chas sighed and left the bedroom. With a heavy heart, she headed towards the filing cabinet in the living room and drew out a clear polythene bag. White powder filled a quarter of the bag, visible through the transparent plastic. She glanced at the black leather chair in the middle of the room. The comfortable one, the ugly one, the one that Carl had always favoured. Chas closed her eyes and swallowed hard, feeling a lump rise up her throat. She let out a shaky breath, warning her of the tears that were to follow. The salty water built up quickly behind her eyelids, threatening to spill over and wash her away in emotion. She willed herself mentally to stay strong, to keep herself together.
Calm, Chas, okay? For Carl. Don’t cry, it’s all gonna be all right. It’s gonna be fine. Don’t worry, just stay calm.
And she repeated these words over and over again, until they didn’t seem like words anymore, just meaningless sounds. She breathed deeply for a while, composing herself and then looked at the clock.
21:44. 21:44? I’ve been down here for half an hour?
Carl would be wondering where she was. Chas attempted to swallow the lump in her throat and gravely thudded up the stairs.
“Took you’re time.”
“I love you.”
“Love you more.”
“This is really it?”
“This is it.”
Exhaling deeply, Chas brought out the plastic bag. Her hands shook as she held it.
“How… how long?”
“I don’t know,” he replied softly, smiling faintly as he looked at her. Then he turned his gaze away from her. “I don’t know.”
A tear trickled down his face. Now it was her turn to be strong.
Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away
Safe in my arms
You're only sleeping.
“It’s gonna be okay,” she whispered, holding him close. “It’s gonna be okay.”
Nodding, he opened the bag. He brought the bag to his lips. Chas couldn’t watch anymore. Seconds later she heard Carl’s hoarse voice.
“I’m done.”
