A few days later everyone was out and Carl and Chas were at home farm themselves.

Chas was sitting on the couch holding Ellie, who was laughing away.

Chas was extremely surprised with herself, she had taken to motherhood better then she had expected. She just wished she had done a better job with Aaron.

Carl looked up from reading the paper and smiled at Chas and Ellie.

Carl looked round to the door as he heard the post falling through the letterbox.

Carl “I’ll get it”

Chas just gave him a smile as he left the room

It had arrived the envelope that would determine if Bradley was his or not, when he had went to the medical centre the other day they said they would post he results out. He took the letter into the Kitchen and sat at the table. He wasn’t sure what he wanted it to say. He opened the letter and turned it over.

The results from the DNA paternity test conducted on the 25th June show that Bradley Atkinson’s DNA did not have a positive match with yours.

Carl just sat there he wasn’t sure if this was good news or not, he was just getting used to the idea that Bradley might have been his. He heard Chas opening the lounge door, but she went up the stairs. And put Ellie down for a sleep.

He stood up and put the kettle on.

Five minutes later Chas entered the kitchen o see Carl sat at the table, he seemed deep in thought.

Chas “You a ‘right babe?”

Carl just sat there he hadn’t heard Chas

Chas “Carl”

Carl snapped out of his daydream

Carl “What? Sorry was a mile away”

Carl pulled Chas down so she was sitting on his knee.

She wrapped her arms around him, she seen the letter on the table

Chas “Is that the results?”

Carl nodded in response

Chas “Well what do they say”

Chas picked up the paper, and read it. She didn’t know what to say to Carl she couldn’t tell if he was happy or sad.

At this point Carl and Chas both looked at each other as they heard Ellie beginning to cry. Chas got up and was about to up and get her. When Carl asked if he could. Chas said yes and Carl went up the stairs.

He picked Ellie up from her mosses basket and sat with her on him and Chas’ bed.

He loved her so much; Carl thought to himself that maybe Bradley not being his was a good idea, it might have caused problems. He was so happy and he didn’t want that to be ruined. He placed Ellie lying down on the bed beside him. And opened his bedside drawer. He pulled out a small bag and then pulled a box out of the bag. He opened it and looked at the ring. Pure white gold, and a real diamond he knew Chas would love it. Now he just needed the right moment to propose.

Carl jumped as he heard Chas coming up the stairs, and quickly put the ring in his drawer he would hide it later. He picked up Ellie and tried to get her back to sleep, Chas smiled as she walked into the room and seen Carl and Ellie. Carl smiled back as Chas sat on the bed behind Carl and lay her head on his shoulder looking over at Ellie.

They were just putting Ellie back down in her mosses basket and closing the bedroom door as the doorbell rang. Carl said he would get it and Chas went into the kitchen and put the kettle on so her and Carl could get some time to themselves.

As Carl pulled the door open he knew immediately who it was. He knew Chas wouldn’t like this so before the woman even got a word in Carl stepped outside and closed the door.

Carl “What do you think your doing turning up here”

Faith “Got a call from Shadrack saying I was a grandma so I thought I should pay a visit”

Carl knew that Chas and her mum had never got on; the minute Chas came home and told her she was pregnant with Aaron their mother daughter relationship was ruined.

Carl “Well you can turn around and crawl back into whatever hole you crawled out of, cause she wont want to see you”

Before Carl could stop her Faith had shoved past Carl and swung open the door of home farm

Chas came out into the hall to see what was going on, she was shocked when she seen her mother standing their, Chas had made it perfectly clear the last time she seen her mother that she never wanted to see her again.

Chas still stood their not knowing what to say, Carl walked round behind Chas and placed his hands on her shoulders as if he was protecting her. Why when things start to go right does something always come up.

Faith “Well, well you’re certainly not my little girl anymore are you”

Chas “I stopped being your little girl when you left me and Cain, to live with the pathetic excuse of a human being as a father, but the only thing is he might be a waste of space but at least he stuck around”

Chas just ran out the house, Faith was about to follow when Carl grabbed her arm and told her to leave Chas alone.

Chas was sitting on a wall just outside one of the stables now deep in her own thoughts………….

What right did her mum have just to turn up after all these years? Chas always felt like she was a bad mum to Aaron because her mum hadn’t been there to support her, she knew she was stupid to get herself pregnant at 13 but she always thought the one person that would always be there for her was her own mum.

A single tear ran down her cheek. Chas pulled herself together and went back inside. Her mum was still there sitting on the couch, looking around the room. Carl had went into the kitchen to make some coffee, as Chas went into the kitchen Carl could see she had been crying slightly and put his arms around her.

Carl “Do you want me to get rid of her”

Chas “No, I think I should talk to her, she is my mum after all”

Carl “Well how about I take Ellie out and leave you to?”

Chas “why don’t you go to the pub, Matt and Jim will be there and I’ll go and get Ellie, my mum wont leave until she’s seen her”

Carl “You sure”

Chas nodded in agreement to the arrangement. Carl picked up his coat from the chair and headed out the back door.

Chas felt slightly awkward as she went into the living room, Chas and Her mum sat in silence for a few moments neither of them knowing what to say.

The silence was broke by the sound of Ellie waking up once again.

Chas Stood up and told her mum she’d be back in 2 minutes

A few minutes later Chas re-entered the lounge with Ellie cuddled up to her. Faith looked at Chas and felt proud, at how well her daughter had turned out.

Faith “She’s gorgeous, looks just like you”

Chas just smiled still not knowing what to say.

Chas “Do you want to hold her”

Faith “I would love to, you don’t mind do you?”

Chas handed Ellie to her mum and felt quite happy maybe rebuilding a relationship with her mum wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.

Before either of them knew it they were deep in conversation……..

A few weeks later

Chas was already downstairs with Ellie, she thought Carl could do with a lie down, the last few months had been tiring but she really loved being a mum, she had surprised herself at how naturally all these maternal feelings came to her.

After feeding Ellie and getting the pram ready Chas was just about to get her coat on when Carl appeared at the bottom of the stairs.

Carl “Morning babe, you ok”

Chas “Fine, just need to get her in her pram”

Carl “Are you sure you don’t want me to come with you today”

Chas “We’ll be fine, am just going to see my mum for a bit, and before you say a word I’ll be fine getting the bus, Katie’s going into Hotten so am going to meet her just now before I go, ok”

Carl “Ok, tonight everyone is going out so it’ll just be us three”

Chas kissed Carl on the cheek before putting Ellie in her pram and heading out the front door.

3:30pm

Katie and Chas were walking down the street, Chas had had a surprisingly good time with her mum, they had went for lunch and then just a walk about, Chas had got some new stuff for Ellie and Faith got Ellie a bracelet with her name on it. Chas was really glad her mum had showed up the other day, and was happy that they were rebuilding their relationship.

Katie "Do you wana go for a quick drink before you go home"

Chas "Ye why not, one wont hurt"

The two headed over towards the pub

Back at home farm

Carl knew chas would not be back for a few hours so headed into the office t do some paperwork.

The next day

Chas and Carl were both in the kitchen, Carl was finishing off some contracts and Chas was sitting cuddling Ellie. Chas had noticed before ,but thought it would be OK, but today she could really see Carl getting annoyed at Matthew, so decided to bring it up, hoping Carl wouldn't think the idea was stupid.

Chas "Babe, don't you think its a bit crowded here"

Carl looked up from his paper

Carl "Suppose it is a bit, why?"

Chas "Well I was thinking that now Ellie's here maybe we should move into our own place"

Carl "Do you know what, it would be perfect wouldn't it"

Chas smiled glad that Carl liked the idea.

Carl "Where were would you want to live, do you want to stick around here?"

Chas "Not really, but you've got the business and Matt, Jim and Scarlett"

Carl "Well i know i should have told you but yesterday i signed all my shares in the company over to Jimmy, and all th money will go into my account tomorrow"

Chas was slightly shocked at what Carl had just told her, but at the same time also relived this means that her and Carl had once less thing keeping them here. Chas didn't want to leave her family but at the same time hated this village so much, so many bad things had happened here, Now her and Carl and Ellie could move anywhere in the world.

Chas "Well if thats what you want then i dont mind"

Carl "We could move anywhere in the world, just the three of us, a whole new life, together"

Chas smiled at the idea.

sorry its not to good, am not really sure where to take the story now, so i think i might finished it soon, but if i do i am going to start a new Chas and Carl story.

ooh i just realised you and me are endings our fics at like the same time!! *coughs* anywaz, i'm so glad u started posting again even if it is going to end.

i am sooo upset with emmerdale right now, cos they're permanantly split up and when Carl and Lexi flirt with eachother i just want to punch the screen and...

before i end up waffling on about how unfair emmerdale is being, thanks for writing the fic, it was Amazing!!

A few days later

Carl and Chas didn't want anyone to know that they were leaving. Chas looked over at the clock on her bedside table and seen that it was only two hours until they had to leave the house.

"How much stuff do you actually have? Carl laughed jokingly trying to zip up the last suitcase.

"Most of that stuff is actually yours and Ellie's" Chas replied slightly naked at Carl's' comment

"I was only having a laugh babe, are you OK, you seem kinda stressed" Carl said, trying not to start an argument

"Ye am fine just a bit tired, i mean she's been up all night" Chas replied trying to convince Carl that she was OK.

About ten minutes later Carl finally had the suitcase shut and all three cases and the pram were downstairs, they had arranged to stay with Charity and her new bloke in Spain until they got somewhere of their own.

Carl really didn't mind leaving without saying goodbye to anyone, he would get in to touch with Colleen and the kids once him and Chas were settled. But Chas on the other hand although not saying anything to Carl, wanted to leave, but not without saying goodbye. Carl was making sure they had everything because the taxi for booked for 3pm and it was already quarter to. when he noticed Chas wasn't about, he put Ellie in her pram and quickly stepped into the kitchen as he didn't want to leave Ellie to long. He seen Chas sitting at the kitchen table she had a few tears streaming down her face.

Carl put his arms around Chas

"Its not to late babe, we can still stay if you want to" Carl said as he wiped away her tears.

"No, no I'm fine honest, i can phone my dad once we get there" Chas replied trying to satisfy Carl.

Chas knew how much Carl he wanted to leave and get away from the village that had caused them both so much pain.

"Look, why don't i phone the taxi and re-arrange for it to come at half three, we'll still get to the airport on time. I can feed Elie and you could write your dad a letter explaining"

Chas nodded in response as Carl gave her a kiss.

Carl made a swift exit from the kitchen as he heard Ellie crying. Leaving Chas in the kitchen. She wanted to write her dad a letter explaining why she was leaving, and that he could come and see her or Ellie when ever he wanted.

It was quarter past three, when Chas had finished writing, she had found it so hard to get what she was thinking down on paper.

Dad,

You might not have always been the best person in the world, but you've always been there for me. When mum left and in the beginning when Gordon wanted nothing to do with Aaron you were there for me. I might not always have told you but to me your the best dad in the world, maybe sometimes you get just a bit too drunk and make a complete arse of yourself, but i still love you.

Whenever you want you can come and see me or Ellie, you can and when or should i say if me and Carl ever get married or have anymore kids you'll be the first to know.

Chas went through to the office and put the envelope addressed to shadrach in Zak's jacket pocket. She walked through to the hall were Carl was just putting Ellie into her pram.

"Hey babe you OK now?" Carl asked wrapping his arms around Chas.

"Ye fine, you ready?"

"Yip"

A horn sounded from outside the front door. Carl and Chas took one final look around them and headed out the front door, Carl got the cases into the boot of the taxi, he double checked that he had all three passports. Chas locked the door to home farm as no one else was there in and posted both hers and Carl's sets of keys through the letterbox.

Carl had got himself and Ellie in the taxi, Chas climbed in to. Carl lent over and kissed Chas as the taxi began to move, both of them so Happy to be leaving Emmerdale for good.
