later that day Carl made afresh statement in the presence of his solicitor, and he was interviewed by inspector Desiri and inspector Jones .deeari asked why did you claim you were the one who killed your father. Carl said i was receiving emails text messages and phone calls threatening my kids and my girl friend . have you got proof of this . yes Carl replied , i tried to trace them but they were all untraceable ,what do they want from you , at first just money, i gave them 150 grand , but then they was threatening the kids and Chas ,they were enjoying it ,they have the statue i hit dad with i swear when i left him he was shouting at me . why didn't you come to the police because i was scared , when the statue went missing i thought right away that someone was trying to blame me thats why i wanted to find out who it was before you got the statue . but when they started threatening the kids and Chas ,i didn't know what to do any more , have you still got the pictures on my computer, and i saved the text messages on a memory card , so Carl if you saved all this information why did you admit to it. because i got out of my depth they were knew my kids school they sent me photographs of thm in school they knew were they lived ,one day i answered the phone and it was Thomas , he was just saying , dad dad hello dad ,then they said see we can get them when we want.then Carl looked up at them and said nervously they are safe arnt they , tell me you know their safe . yes Carl his solicitor said they are safe .Desiri said Carl we need to talk to you about your mobile phone , what about it. how have you got inspector barraclough number and name in your phone , Carl looked shocked his solicitor noticed and said, Carl you don't need to answer that , Carl answered no comment.OK Desiri said but we will need to talk about that later, we need your computer and all what evidence you have , we will drop all charges and release you you can have your phone back incase they get in touch again you must not arrange to meet them .they let Carl go and sent someone to pick his computer up.when Carl got home he was exhausted , but he still could not rest he got on the phone to the kids he was tell in them how much he loved them ,and he asked Coleen could they come and stay for a few days she refused as she had t get told about everything she said it was to dangerous, please Carl said we have heavy security i need to see them. you can stay as well if you like please i need to see them , well you can have them tomorrow she said angrily she still hadn't got over what he had put her through all their married life and she always made things hard for him.when he put the phone down he decided he had had enough he was mentally exhausted and went to bed .

the next morning Carl woke up early ,although he had got a few things off his chest he couldn't help thinking he had done the wrong thing,he had been up a good 2 hours before anyone else ,he was nervously awaiting the arrival of his kids he didn't feel they were safe until they were with him, the fact that it was only 7am didn't seem to register although he kept looking at his watch. at 7,15 am jimmy got up, your up early you alright , yes Carl replied what time do you think the kids will get here,Carl its only quarter past seven, why dont you just sit down and relax,i cant jimmy when they find out what i have done , Carl paused well who knows what they will do.still very edgy Carl said do you think Chas will be up ,no leave it she,ll be here later to stay its to early , no jimmy I'm going to get her before any of this comes out i dont care how early it is. this way we will be safe the earlier the better. look Carl jimmy said you need to calm down your getting yourself in a state for no reason . it was 8am when Matt got up ,Carl had just picked his car keys up , were are you going Matt asked , I'm going to get Chas , and will you arrange someone to pick the kids up . Carl dont you think its a bit early , no this is going to get out i want to be looking after them when it dose ,Matt said just down soft lad no i going to get her ,look Matt said phone her first. Carl picked the phone up and dialled Chas , Chas answered , hello, Chas its me I'm coming to get you now so be ready , Chas said hang on Carl Ive only just got up , well how long will you be , Carl asked , about 1hour Chas replied well i,ll be there in 1 hour then ,Chas sensed the panic and said Carl you really do need calm down , you know you've come through worse than this you've got to keep it together ,OK i will Carl said its just .........im scared Chas I'm just scared , i know darling Chas said but i promise every thinks going to be fine now,OK ill see you in 1 hour then they rang off ,Chas seemed to calm Carl down for a while , and Matt and jimmy were relieved.jimmy made a fried breakfast and Carl actually ate all of it ,soon enough the hour had past and Carl said right I'm off i,ll see you in a bit , no Matt said i,ll get her your to uptight , no I'm going Carl said, well we,ll both go , to witch Carl agreed ,when they got there Chas was ready , she looked at Carl he was now more nervous than ever and Chas could see it , she hugged him and said Carl you cant carry on like this , it could take a while for the police to sort this out ,you've got to get it together , i,ll be alright when you and the kids are with me Carl said , well i hope so Chas said because you will frighten the poor things ,ill try Carl replied, it was noon when the car pulled up with the kids in Matt had arranged security guards to pick the kids up , and to everyones surprise colleen wasn't with them ,as Carl had offered her to stay , instead the kids had a letter of their mum saying (i think under the circumstances the children will be safer with you i know you have very good security i have no wish to stay with you and your girl friend so i will go on Holiday for a week i will be in touch) they were quite surprised at how she didn't seem that worried about her kids ,Matt said well your kids lives are threatened and you go on Holiday without them , how strange he thought, the rest of the day went without a hitch and Carl seemed to calm down as the day went by. as the day went by and Carl played with the kids you would think it was just an ordinary day . that night the police called at home farm ,we have computer experts looking over your computer , and your memory card but we need to speak with your son , what the hell for Carl said you might frighten him ,Carl we need to know how they got his voice on the phone we need to know if he knew what was happening, we have spacial officers to talk to children Carl asked ,what about colleen hasn't she got to be informed no your his father you have the same rights Carl agreed and they arranged for Thomas to get interviewed the next day.

it was round mid day when the police came to interview Thomas,they wanted to have a special room to set up in and it all had to be taped on video,so it took around 1 hour to arrange ,they had to make him feel relaxed , so there was toys and stuff spread around the room .Carl went to get Thomas ,Thomas there is someone i would like you to meet ,they want to talk with you for a little while , do you mind, no but what do they want me for, its alright i will be right there ,every thinks OK. OK dad Thomas replied.they entered the room Carl was allowed to stay with him there were also 2 specialized officers and Carl's solicitor. but they soon made Thomas feel relaxed . when he was relaxed enough they started asking him questions , mostly not to do with the case , then they said do you have a mobile phone Thomas , no Thomas replied , I'm to young , oh i see , do you know how to use one , yes Thomas replied there easy my mates have them their parents let them have one.have you ever used one of your friends then , yes there easy peasy lemon squeesy , Thomas said without realizing he was getting interrogated.i bet you've phoned loads of people haven't you they asked trying to bring themselves down to Thomas,s level, no not really , they only let me use it some times.who then who have you phoned ,only my house Thomas replied , when i thought mum was late , but she never answered so i only got the answer phone. did you talk to the answer phone yes i said mum were are you ,and then she pulled up on the car. is that the only time you've used a phone ye Thomas replied,it was good though i listened to it when i got home , i sounded funny,Thomas just rabbeted on about how funny he sounded on the phone like he was amazed, he was sitting putting lots of voices on and he ha everyone in stitches , then the officer asked don't you ever phone your dad up , no mum always does that we are not allowed , she always says he is very busy , or sometimes she says he doesn't want to talk to us any more , now hes got a new girlfriend,she says that when she,s mad though, everyone turned and looked at Carl who had gone totally red with embarrassment, you don't believe that do you son ,Carl said stunned,no she just says that cuz you got a new girlfriend, Carl was quickly told to try not to interfere, but Thomas carried on embarrassing Carl ,with tales of him cheating ,and his mum being left with nothing, Carl was getting furious he knew he hadn't left his kids with nothing he had never missed any maintenance payments ,and even paid her more than what she was entitled ,he was getting more and more in a rage he had to ask could he leave the room. it was OK as Carl's solicitor was there. when Carl left the room they decided to try to hurry things up as they thought Thomas would soon want to join has dad.Thomas has any one ever asked you to talk to your dad on the phone, its important that you remember, no Thomas said are you sure even if he wasn't there when you got the phone.Thomas quickly replied no i would know if i did . Thomas started getting agitated , probably because his dad had left the room the police decided that Thomas had had enough and they hopped he might well remember something another time. they had just started to pack away when Thomas said sometimes i pretend to phone dad ,do you Thomas ,everyones head turned as they quickly turned the tape back on , yes me and Anya play with the phone sometimes and if you dial my number in the phone the answer phone goes on and you can leave yourself a message, and you can listen to yourself talk , its funny i always pretend to phone dad up , and then next time i pretend i am dad ,and i talk like that ,putting a very deep voice on , as they packed away they asked Carl did he think there was a possibility his ex wife could be involved he said no way .she would have had to be at the wedding and if she was she would definitely been noticed, well we will leave it there for now if he mentions any think else get in touch,we will inform you when we have the results of the computer back .the police left and Carl went to go and reassure his son that he did love him no matter what his mother said.

a whole week had gone by , when the police returned ,they found it very strange Carl hadn't heard of the blackmailer , on his mobile or his computer, they wanted to question him more, it was a Saturday and colleen was due to pick the kids up soon ,you have to be quick Carl said Ive got to get Thomas and Anya ready to go home , and sort out the security, OK Mr king Desiri said but we need to know have you had any contact with anyone concerning this case, no Carl said , so am i a suspect again Carl said getting agitated , i mean last week my name was Carl , now its Mr king , Mr king at this stage everyone is a suspect and yes including you . did you tell anyone about the blackmail other than your family and Chas, no Carl answered ,are you sure well they told Chas,s boss the pub landlady.i really cant see her having any think to do with it.is there anyone else no Carl said . OK we will be in touch. later that day the police called at the woolie to question Dianne, can you come to the station they said to Dianne , what for Dianne asked . in connection with the tom king murder, what Dianne said totally shocked , am i under arrest,no Mrs sugden we just need to clear a few things up.Dianne left the pup and all the customers were standing staring in disbelief. at home farm colleen had phoned and asked could Carl send the kids home in a car ,no Carl said you had better get over here now ,theres a few things i want to ask you ,oh yeah Coleen replied you can ask on the phone,tough Carl said you don't come for them you don't get them back.Carl slammed the phone down.meanwhile at the station Dianne was getting questioned , how did you find out Carl king is getting blackmailed , Chas told me , why because they didn't want any one to know he had handed himself in, did you tell anybody no Dianne replied. i swear i haven't told anybody Mrs sugden its important , if you have told anyone we need to know i havn,t told anyone Dianne insisted. OK Mrs sugden you are free to go. meanwhile at home farm, Carl and the kids were sitting waiting for colleen the kids wanted their mother, Carl wanted to know why she had told the kids lies about him. they waited and waited ,until there was a knock on the door, the kids run to greet their mum , Carl stood up waiting to confront her ,when Thomas opened the door colleen was not there it was inspector Desiri ,what now Carl said , can we have a word Carl , Desiri said,Carl new something was wrong and quickly ushered the kids out the room , oh dad whens mum coming Anya said i want my mum , soon Carl promised just go and sit with Chas for a minute i,ll be right back, Carl came back OK whats up he said , Matt and jimmy entered the room ,well you found out anything yet Matt asked , yes we have the results of your computer and your memory card. I'm afraid we have arrested your ex wife colleen king in connection with blackmail, Carl Matt and jimmy all looked at each other in disbelief.
