Thanx everyone I actually found time while I was waiting to watch the Hatton fight.

When they got to the hospital Chas was rushed straight through to resuss where she was assessed Carl and Lisa where told to wait in the reletives room while this was happening, It seemed like hours they where waiting before they heard anything ,Carl was pacing the floor trying to think what he had missed why he hadn't noticed there was something wrong about half an hour had gone by when Zak came in , wheres Shadrach Lisa asked why isn't he here .I couldn't Lisa Zak replied he was well out of it thats the last thing the lass needs . still Zak you should have told him he has a right to know he's her father, Yeah well Debbie will tell him when he wakes up any way any news , No we haven't heard anything sense we got here and he isn't helping he keeps moaning about how long its taken he's making me nervous.Zak went over to Carl come on son sit down she'll be OK in a bit you wait and see. Just then a doctor came to the relatives room to see them , Well Carl said impatiently, how is she is she awake yet,no I'm afraid not we have had to put her on life support for the time being I'm afraid while we run some tests.What why Carl shouted as Lisa and Zak just stood and stirred, Can anyone tell me how long she has been ill for the doctor asked , well she was sick today that was it there was no sign of any think last night we went out for a meal we where drinking all night she was OK thats why I thought she would be fine I thought she had a hang over , so I gave her some paracetamol and left her a bit longer.OK the doctor said we will wait for the test results to come back and see what they say.Will she be OK though Carl asked almost pleading for he doctor to say yes. its hard to say until we have th test results back from the lab but as soon as we know any think we will let you know. Can we see here Carl asked , yes the doctor replied but you must keep as quiet as possible as she in in a high dependency unit.
The doctor led them to her ward witch was situated at the side of the other wards and closed in . you must wear a mask in here the nurse said there is risk of infection ,what infection Carl asked , then the doctor said until we rule everything out we have to take percussions. we have tested her for Meningitis and until we get the results back you need to wear a mask.They put their masks on and went into the room ,Carl seemed shocked at the amount of tubes coming out of Chas and he just grabbed her had and then started stroking her face .Whats that Lisa said picking her other hand up , that mark on the side of her face don't know Zac said as Carl walked round to have a look , Well that wasn't there before Carl said do you think we should tell any one . well to be honest Lisa said I think thats one of the symptoms of Meningitis ,Carl called the nurse and showed her the mark , the nurse examined Chas again and found that there as a rash consistent with septicemia Meningitis . The nurse called the doctor back in.Well Carl said to the doctor is it Meningitis or what, Yes I'm afraid so , so what now will she be OK well its still to early to say but we can treat her with antibiotics no and hopefully start to see an improvement. but I must warn you in some cases even if she does wake up there is a chance that there will be permanent damage there is no way of knowing until she wakes, I must also warn you this is life threatening.Carl , Lisa and Zak just starred at each other . Carl just sat holding her hand not knowing what to say when the doctor said , we need to check everyone who has been in contact with her in the last 48 hours here is a small risk of infection Carl didn't take it in at first he was still thinking about the fact that Chas could die ,Sir the Doctor interrupted we need to test all your family and Friends who have had contact in the last 48 hours , what Carl said we could all have this the kids as well, there is a risk but chances are they will all be fine, Carl put his head in his arms he felt like his world was falling apart.

That afternoon all the family plus Daz and scarlet turned up at the hospital. one by one they where all tested . it was an agonizing wait and one witch was so agonizing for all of them even more so Carl as he had his kids tested as well, Carl was the last to be tested as he had only just come down from the isolation ward where Chas was being kept.
Well how long will it take for us to find out if we are all OK Matt asked. A couple of hours the Doctor replied when we have the results we will inform you. OK Doctor Matt said I will call back later . No I'm sorry nobody can leave I'm afraid until you get the all clear. You may infect some one , Well we have a business to run Jimmy said clients to meet sorry we have to go. Look the Doctor said I can get special permission witch means we can prevent you from leaving the hospital, I will do that and you would be arrested as soon as you tried to leave . No Carl said every think is fine we are all staying here giving his brothers a disapproving look.
It was early evening when the results came back and every body was relieved to learn that they had not been infected and they all went home except Carl who went back up to see Chas , When he got there he was met by shadrach who was a little worse for wear . after waking up and finding out she was in hospital he left straight away not even taken his time to have a wash or comb his hair. As soon as Carl saw shadrach he could smell the stale beer all over the room . Disgusted by him Carl could not help but tell Shadrach what he thought of him.You stink of ale haven't you no shame coming to see Chas like that in that state , Carl paused then carried on do you really think she wants to wake up to you looking like that , I'm sorry son Shadrach said lifting his head of Chas's hand , I just left as soon as I was told I never thought of any think else I just wanted to get here as quick as possible. Carl looked at Shadrach and saw how upset he was and realized he had no right to say such horrible things this was her dad , who loved her , Carl replied no its OK I'm sorry just a bit stressed thats all.
Carl and Shadrach waited with Chas all night , Jimmy had sorted out drivers for Thomas and Anya to go to school, and had also started interviewing for a nanny with Carl's permission.
At 11am the doctor came in to see Chas and let them know if the antibiotics where working, OK doc Carl said trying to sound optimistic , whats the verdict any change or not. well Yes the Doctor said the tests we took early this morning showed improvement so we can leave her on the same medication for now and hopefully she will carry on improving.But I will warn you that this could take some time so you should both go home and get something to eat maybe come back tonight. Carl realized that he was right and agreed , Well can I give you a lift home Shadrach and I will pick you up later if you want. yeah that would be great son Shadrach said , they both left.
When Carl got home he was happy to see the kids had gone to school despite the time they had got home the night before, and Jimmy had a short list of nanny,s for Carl to interview again. Wow you two have really been busy haven't you thanks , Yeah Matt said and have a guess who got the kids up this morning without any trouble from a certain young lady, oooooh nice one Matt Carl said dad always said you had a way with the laddies, are you joking Jimmy said its because she's terrified of him thats why , Carl and Jimmy started laughing, Hey she love's her uncle Matt you ask her.Well Jimmy said how is she , any change , Well yes Carl said they said the signs are good the antibiotics are working , but it could be a while so I decided to come home and get a shower and shave.and besides I had to get Shadrach out of there before people started to complain.
Later that day after he had seen the kids and had tea with them , he left to see Chas, he went to pick Shadrach up but once again he had been drinking and Carl chose to go on his own. Me and Zak will be in later on Lisa said to Carl as he left, ok Carl replied and went to the hospital on his own .
when he got to the Hospital, Carl started talking to Chas as he had heard it helps coma patients he didn't know weather it was true or not but it was worth a try, come on Chas wake up Carl said repeatedly, but there was no response, then the Doctor came in again hello he said shaking Carl's hand we are going to take her of the Machines now see if she can breath on her own , why is she getting better Carl asked , well the infection has gone down but its a matter of how much damage has been done we will not know that until she wakes up we just don't know. Carl sat anxious to know what damage had been done

Carl sat by Chas's bed for around 3 hours,In that time Chas had managed to breath on her own witch pleased the hospital staff. all they where waiting for now was for her to wake up.Carl carried on talking to her to try to wake her up but there was no response he was starting to get disheartened , then he remembered the doctor saying it could take a while , what does he mean a while Carl thought, tonight tomorrow next week next year when he thought. pacing up and down anxiously .Tears started falling down his face again as he thought of all the presents he had bought her for Christmas , ones she would not see if he didn't wake her up soon , its Christmas next week Oh come on Chas Carl said it wake up Carl said holding her hand, still with tears coming down his face.thinking the longer she lies there the more chance there is of permanent damage , this was the first time Carl had thought properly about any brain damage it had crossed his mind but he was being optimistic then , now as time goes on it was crossing his mind more and more. Why me Carl was thinking every time something good in my life happens something twice as bad comes to ruin it why me why us .
Come on Babe wake up I cant take this much longer its gone on to long you have to wake up Carl was still crying and just chatting on about anything he thought might wake Chas up .when he heard a familiar voice.

Hello dad Thomas said running over to Carl , hello trouble Carl said ,Carl looked up and saw Matt standing in the doorway , what the hell you bought him here for are you out of your mind Carl said , No Matt said we are out going to pick up a take away for supper and Thomas asked could he come and see Chas, and sinse the infection has gone I didn't see why not , Any way its a good job we did your sitting there talking to yourself, Matt said, no I wasn't I was talking to Chas asking her to wake up they say its been known to work. Yeah it might work Matt said for some people but look at you Carl Matt said , what Carl asked whats up with me, Well apart from the fact tat your ugly ,Matt joked would you want to wake up to a miserable sod like you , Very funny Carl said so you seen me cry get lost Matt Carl said angrily.Carl ,Matt snapped I'm serious if the sub conscience can hear things then at the moment all she is getting is unhappy vibes, talk about the good things you've done together and stop that winging and have a laugh with her, Easier said than done every time I open my mouth I just want to cry and at the moment all I can do is think the worse , Well ill start you off shall I Matt said, Erm lets see , Hey Chas remember the time when Edna caught you and our Carl in the woods having sex, and she called the police Matt, Carl said Thomas is here, Thomas give Carl a boyish shy grin, Carl started laughing ,Er its working Matt said hes laughing Thomas look, What did the police do Thomas asked cheekily,Nothing because nothing happened , anyway isn't it about time you got that supper in Jimmy and Anya will want to know where you are. Look getting all embarrassed ask Chas Matt said to Thomas , Thomas went to whisper in her ear there was no response but they all found it amusing.Ask him about Edna,s dog Matt said to Thomas ,erm arnt we supposed to be talking to Chas , Carl interrupted knowing Matt was going to embarrass him even more, We are arnt we Chas Matt said , Yeah thought so Thomas I read her mind she thinks its a good idea its a funny story, So what did Edna's dog do dad, Thomas asked , nothing Carl replied hes joking . No am not Thomas , Matt looked up slyly at Carl to make sure he was OK, when he saw he was he continued , well your dad and Chas were there in the woods , you know don't ye, yeah Thomas replied, well Matt said Edna saw them , in the nood Thomas asked cheekily, yeah , Carl tried to interrupt , Matt he said, but Matt just carried on,Well she had a fright screamed all over the place , dropped the dog at run away .The dog saw them got scared jumped up and bit your dad in his privates. Carl started laughing historically at Matt's total fabrication .I think Thomas knows thats not true Matt Carl said , Yeah but it worked now if your talking to Chas have a laugh with her, OK you win now get out and go and get that supper before Anya falls asleep. Matt and Thomas where on there way out when Carl said , hey if you see Zak or Lisa tell them thanks they where supposed to be coming in tonight, yeah Matt said they'll be in the woolly now , they don't care Carl , Yeah I know Carl said .hey Matt snapped don't let them get to you ,OK I wont Carl said now just go. Matt and Thomas left the hospital Carl walked over to Chas and started speaking to her , Hey Chas he said just me and you know babe , so let us have a laugh hey .

Carl had stayed up all night talking to Chas , He had taken Matt's advice and spoke about all the good times they had together he spoke about Christmas and all the presents they had bought for the kids , OK you win Carl said to Chas , you got our own way i ll cook the turkey but I'm warning f it burns your still eating it.Or shall we have lamb this year i think that will be easier and its also my favorite so what do you think , Chas lamb or turkey . Carl was getting tired he hadn't had much sleep at all since Chas first got sick, it was now early hours in the morning and his eyes had started to feel very heavy.Still trying to put sentences together Carl fell asleep holding Chase's hand.He was sitting in a chair next to the bed and his head had fell forward and was resting on the side of the bed next to their hands . Suddenly Carl felt a slight squeeze on his hand , Carl jumped and looked at their hands , was that real or was I dreaming he thought , Carl starred at their hands waiting to find out , he was just about to rest his Head down again when it happened again , Chas , Chas Carl called can you hear me , Chas started making a gurgling noise because of the tube she had up her nose and in her mouth was making her choke a little , Nurse Carl shouted as he pulled the emergency cord, 2 nurses came rushing in , I think shes waking up Carl said look she cant breath,thats normal don't worry the nurse said, so is she waking up then Carl asked, Yes I think she is , Welcome back lovie the nurse said to Chas as she started taking feeding tubes out so that Chas could breath, Is she OK does this mean she will be fine Carl asked the nurse anxiously , Lets just give her time to wake up shall we and we will wait for the Doctor to come round, You got yourself a good man here love, the nurse said , he's hardly left your side for 2 days, Carl was looking on waiting for a reaction, And we have heard all your secrets tonight he never shuts up your fella does he. Suddenly Chas started to make a small laugh,and she nodded as in agreement with the nurse, E ,R the nurse sad she understands , I don think we will have any problems but we will wait until the doctor comes around later on he can do a full assessment, you should give her a bit of time don't expect to much from her she will be groggy for a while yet, OK Carl said, she hasn't spoke though Carl said whats up, like I sed the nurse said she Will be groggy and she probably has a sore throat with all the tubes it is very common not to speak at first.In fact e nurse said she will probably drop of to sleep for a couple of hours before we get a proper reaction , you wouldn't think so but although she has been asleep for a while it makes you very sleepy. OK Carl said ,and the nurse left the room. Carl sat back in his hair and held Chas's hand again , this time all his worries where gone and as he looked at Chas she gave him a reassuring smile and squeezed his hand then she fell back asleep Carl put his head back at the side of their hands and drifted off to sleep as well.

Ive managed one more update before Xmas.


Carl and Chas had been asleep for a few hours when he woke up still holding Chas's hand , he hadn't moved an inch .He just sat for another hour looking at Chas waiting for her to wake up. He wanted desperately to go to the toilet but he dearn't move in case she woke up and he wasn't there. At about 10am Chas started to come round as she did Carl started stroking her face and her hair. As Chas opened her eyes she found herself looking directly into Carl's eyes, Hello again Carl said , Chas smiled , Carl stood up and kissed her on the forehead, Ive missed you Carl whispered into her ear.What happened Chas whispered to Carl as she was still having trouble with her groggy voice.You had meningitis , you scared us all me especially I thought I had lost you,Chas whispered back you wont get rid of me that easily.Chas started to look confused, Carl noticed, whats up he asked are you OK,yeah Chas whispered I'm just wondering , I mean I can't even remember being sick , Well I suppose us getting drunk didn't help but I'm glad you don't remember because you were pretty bad and I stupidly thought it was a hang over.What do you mean a hang over you have to be drunk to have a hang over , Yeah Carl said you know them things you get when you drink to much, Yeah I know Chas whispered but I hadn't been drinking, Carl starred at Chas for a minute realizing that Chas had no recollection of their night out, you mean you don't remember Carl asked , remember what , Chas replied , Do you remember going for a meal with me and coming home and drinking in bed till the early hours, no Chas whispered the last thing I remember is getting ready and Anya helping me. Oh Carl said realizing she couldn't remember him asking her to marry him, he sat in silence for a minute and said oh it doesn't matter I'm sure you will remember soon.Look Carl said I need to go to the toilet , then to phone people up let them know you've woke up why donut you get some rest before the doctor comes around.Carl kissed Chas on the head and left the room .

Hello is that you Jimmy , Yeah Jimmy replied , just letting you know Chas has woke up , Oh great Jimmy replied how is she feeling , shes fine actually shes a bit groggy but she seems fine , no side effects then Jimmy asked , Well I don't think so Carl replied she spoke to me and that but she cant remember the last few hours so I don't know, Oh that will probably come back to her later , yeah Carl replied.Anyway will you let everybody know , and don't forget Zak and Lisa , yeah OK Jimmy replied, wish her all the best and we will try to get in later, OK Jim thanks I'll see you later bye.Carl went back to the ward just as the doctor got there , Hello the doctor said , so your back with us then yeah Chas replied, The doctor started examining her and asking questions about family and friends , dates and general stuff to make sure her memory was good.Carl interrupted , she can't remember the last few hours is that normal, yes the doctor said its the brains defense mechanism , when the brain detects a trauma or a illness in this case it wipes out any think it thinks is harmful.So will it come back to her Carl asked, Its highly unlikely the doctor replied.
Well I think your through the worst now the doctor smiled at Chas, We might even get you home for Christmas day Chas smiled , and said that would be Lovell.you do need plenty of rest though so I suggest you let him go home while you get rest.
The doctor left Chas and Carl alone, Look Chas said, you should go home see the kids, And you will have loads to sort out for Christmas. Are you sure I would rather stay here with you , look Chas whispered you heard the doc , now go home . Carl smiled kissed and hugged Chas and left the hospital.

At home Farm everyone was surprised to see him, You back Jimmy said Yeah Carl replied I was ordered home while she gets some rest, she might be home for Christmas depending on weather she carries on improving so if that means I have to leave her for a while so be it. well did she remember the night out in the end then Jimmy asked, No Carl replied the doctor said she probably wont ever remember that.Matt started laughing , does that mean your not engaged now since she can't remember saying yes , Well yeah I suppose it does Carl replied , hahahaha Matt found it funny , hey Carl who's to say she can't remember , I bet its an excuse so she doesn't have to marry you , Carl started laughing she's said yes once , she,ll say it again , But secretly Carl had been worried about this all day .
