THE FUNERAL
-------------
The day of the funeral arrived, the weather was cold and Carl was dreading today alot of Colleens friends still considered him as
the reason Colleen had let herself get in such a mess, They thought His affairs were the reason for every think that went
wrong in her life and would never give him a chance although Carl would be the first to agree he wasn't the best husband in the world he did provide for her and his kids well , but nobody ever gave him credit for that, he knew he would be facing some fierce looks. especially as he would have Chas with him how would hey react he thought.

Come on Thomas Anya the cars are here , Carl shouted as the kids were in the kitchen scared of what the day would bring, walking back to the kitchen he saw Anya looking very scared and Thomas Cradling her with Chas trying to comfort both of them, whats up Carl said as he entered , Chas looked up,Don't know if she can handle this Carl, Chas said worried I know Carl said as he took Anya in his arms, would you like me to Carry you, Anya never answered
but placed her arms round his neck.Daddy I don't want to go Anya said as they walked out the door , Its OK sweetheart your with me you will be fine, Carl said as he got in the the car.


Arriving at the church Carl couldn't help but notice the turnout and how many people had turned up, wow he thought i never thought there would be this many people here , some he knew some he never, Anya still in his arms he he followed the coffin down the aisle wondering what it was he should be feeling this was the woman he once loved yet the only feeling he had was for his kids they were the ones he was feeling for to Carl all the feeling to wards Colleen had gone he felt a little guilty as he passed her Friends the people who had blamed him for the break up. he still felt those eyes stirring at him the same ones that did every time he visited her, the uneasiness that followed him down the aisle was also followed by guilt how many of them saw me there he thought do they know it was me who drove her to this is that why they are looking at me int disgust or is it hatred as to what I drove her to,
paranoia drove through Carl's mind at a hundred mile per hour , all the what ifs and why's passed through his mind, he stopped at the front pew and took his seat with Thomas and Anya as he led the way followed by Matt and Jimmy he quickly realized Chas had stopped at the back of the church and let the others go ahead, as he turned to face her she gave a reassuring smile and Carl at down.

Chas took her seat at the back, looking around she suddenly realized she was out of place, she never knew a single person All these people she thought was once Carl's Friends and yet she never knew any of them , sitting in her own world Chas never noticed the pretty young blond girl that sat in same pew,were you related she said in a low but sweet voice, What Chas replied suddenly realizing she was getting spoken to, Erm, Erm no Chas said as she turned to face the young girl , Oh the girl said are you a Friend then , baffled by the youngsters remark, Chas just replied sort of and faced th front wondering why a girl so young would want to come to a strangers funeral,

The service went fine apart from Anya and Thomas both being so upset Carl couldn't control them , Chas thought for a minute she had made the wrong decision in leaving them But it was only right they should be allowed their dad to themselves she thought
at least for today, Again the young girl spoke, Are they her kids she said, as she looked at Thomas and Anya, is that her husband, Erma ex husband Chas replied annoyed and yes they are her kids, Oh the youngster replied quite chocked then I think he must be my father, Chas turned in shock and looked at this pretty young girl and suddenly realized what she was saying, what Chas said, he Cant be , he is the youngster said and she was my mother.

Totally shocked Chas just sat there and starred at this pretty girl, what , how Chas said as she faced , her she suddenly seen the resemblance with Anya , but pushed it away this wasn't true she thought, no way Chas said as the Coffin was being carried back up the aisle ,followed by Carl and the kids, Yes the girl said and whats it to you , as your no relation why should you care, well I sort off am as am marrying the man you are calling your dad, father the girl said my dad he died of Cancer four months ago, he my father , he gave me up to much trouble I was to them, how do you know Chas asked, how do you know it was them , I never the young girl said for 15 years I never knew then when dad died , we had to move and I found the documents for my adoption and mum told me the truth, Chas was still starring at the young girl in disbelief when the coffin went passed them followed by Carl , looking up she met Carl's eyes with hers but this time the feelings off sympathy had gone swapped for feelings of anger.

The Burrial
---------------

At the burrial in the church grounds, Chas stood at the back of the congragation still with this pretty young girl standing next to her, Chas noticed a single red rose in her hand, Do you think they will mind the young girl asked , erm I dont know Chas replied as the girl held her gaze, looking at the rose , the young girl notice chas trying to read the card attached to the flower,Charllott the young girl said, my name is Charllott, Chas , Chas replied holding out her hand as in to greet her, My freinds call me Charli , Charllott said , ok Charli , Chas said still unsure off what to make of the situation,

Silence fell over the two of them as they watched colleens body being lowered into the ground, as Chas stood she could hear , this young girl who she never met before sniffle , turning to face her Chas put her hand on her shoulder , Its ok chas said you cry , do you think am stupid Charli replied, I never even knew her, no sweetheart Chas replied , pulling her a little closer but feelling a uneasiness , would you like me to stay here with you for a while after the service so you can say your good byes , That would be nice Charli replied as she wipped away her flowing tears with a half chuckle, I dont know what am crying for she said , I never even knew her,

As the the mourners started to leave the side of the grave , Chas suddenly realised she would have to tell Carl why she couldnt leave, explaining only that she would follow on and leaving Carl stunned ,Chas went back to Charli , and waited untill the cemetry was empty before they walked towards the grave, whitch was yet to be filled,
You ok. Chas asked as Charlie stood looking down at Colleens coffin , a single tear dropped down on Charli's cheek as she dropped the rose into the grave, Yes I think am fine now , Charli replied as she turned to walk away, you sure I can take a walk if you want come back in five minutes, leave you on your own , No Charli said sternly my mum will be woundering where I am, Oh she dosent know your here then Chas replied a little stunned but realising why this young girl was on her own, No the youngster replied am not sure she would have understood, we fell out over it when I found out because I wated to know more, So how did you find out about colleen, Chas asked as they were walking through the cemetry, His dad , my grandad , Charli replied I found all the cuttings of his death mum kept them , And then I saw her name in the paper I knew it was her, I never told mum I knew but I think she knows , she just didn't want to tell me , You should talk to your mum Chas replied , you will probably find she is supportive, no Charli said mum wouldn't understand, and neither would , Charli stopped herself, it dosent matter she continued what Chas replied what dosent matter, Nothing sorry I must hurry , Charli went to run , worried she was about to say to much, no wait Chas shouted grabbing her by the arm before charli took her stride ,have you got a mobile, can I get your dad to ring you, My dads dead Charli replied, ok Carl your father, no Charli said he has no right to phone me he gave me up, now I must go , wait Chas replied at least take my number, you can phone any time you like I wont force you to speak to him , Please Chas continued , you might like to see thomas and Anya one day, Charli looked up , they are not just their kids no more she thought they are my brother and sister, although she had heard their names before ,it had never regestered she may want to see them , now she saw them she realised maybe she did, Ok Charli replied taking her phone out of her pocket , type your number in my phone , Chas took Charli's phone and entered the number saved it under Chas and give her the phone back, I must go now Charli said as she turned quickly on her heels , phone me Chas shouted after her, maybe Charli shouted back still in her fast stride,as Chas stood watching Charli fade into the distance , she thought for a moment going over the whole thing woundering what had just happened as she really just met Carls daughter and what would she tell Carl , should she be angry or should she try to understand after all they must have been very young, Chas suddenly realised, he's lied to me again , he knew what I was going through when I struggled to explain about Aaron and How I felt, the cheepness I felt explaining how I left my son , and yet he left her , to a stranger and said nothing about how much he understood, anger welled up in Chas's stomach as she thought about how many more lies Carl had actually told her and how many more dark secrets he has , will she ever know him for real , standing against the gates of the cemetry thoughts racing through her head , Chas never noticed Carls jeep pull up , what are you still doing here Carl shouted I was worried about you , suddernly regaining her composure , Chas replied I bet you were as she opened the door and got in woundering wether now was the right time to approach him or should she leave it untill she has calmed down.

What happened were did you go, I was worried about yeah, Carl asked knowing something wasn't right, nothing was all Chas replied as Carl started the car, Driving in silence for a couple of minutes Carl decided to stop the car, pulling over in a layby Carl demanded to know what was wrong, Chas am not going back home arguing infront of the kids again, they are to upset for that he continued, I know Chas replied looking at Carl in the eye We need to talk Carl , Chas said holding Carls gaze , Well Carl said what is it, and why did you sit at the back of the church , what have I done Carl demanded to know, for your information Chas replied , I felt the kids needed to be with you on their own without me being there dont you think so , I mean what on earth would all Colleens freinds would have made of us two standing there with the kids, I dont care Carl replied , well I do and the kids might , am sorry but I thought it was the right thing to do Chas continued, Ok Carl said in a slightly raised voice, dosent explain why you never came home with us the kids were asking where you where, Chas put her head down knowing she was getting backed into a corner , she knew if she confronted Carl now the attmosphere at home would be unbeable for the kids, yet she couldnt keep her anger at bay , I think I should stay at zak and Lisa's tonight Chas said leave you to spend time with the kids , What Carl replied angrilly, we need to be with the kids they have been asking for you, I dont understand Carl continued you where fine before the funaral whats changed, Its nothing Chas replied I just think the kids will be better of if I spend some time away from them thats all ,I mean they are greiving for their mother they dont need her replacment thrown in their faces do they,Chas were's all this comming from Carl replied , Carl I have made my decision Can we leave now I need to see lisa see if its ok Chas replied ,Fine Carl replied as he started the engine, and started to drive off .

Approaching the village Carl started heading for the sign marked home farm, Carl , Chas stated I am going to uncle ZaKs, I thought you would need a overnight bag Carl replied, Well I thought you could pass one down later when the kids are asleep Chas replied, looking at Chas with rolling eyes Carl replied am sure we can work this out , taking her hand in his , Just tell me Carl continued I cant Chas replied not tonight any way, Turning the Car round , carl mumbled under his breathe( thought you loved us can't wait to go soon as your needed) erm what was that Chas replied nothing Carl answered yeah it was something about me loving you, well yeah Carl said stopping the car once more knowing the conversation was getting more heated,you say you love us want to be there for Thomas and Anya , well we need you now more than ever and all you want to do is leave us, some love Carl Continued, Oh thats rich comming from you Chas replied,unable to stop herself , you say you love me want to marry me , be a mother to your kids yet you dont even trust me , Chas stopped there thinking she had already said to much , Now can we please go , No Carl said I want to know what you mean you know I trust you , whatever Chas replied , NO! Carl demanded what the hell is going on here I dont understand, You stood there Carl watched me struggle to tell you how it feels to leave Aaron with his dad, Am sorry it must have bought it all back to you today Carl said not knowing what Chas was really on about but trying to make the situation go away , Chas continued your even doing it now , I dont get you am doing what now Carl asked , looking puzzled, I cant pretent to know what your going through was one of the phrases you used Carl when you was patronising me, What , Carl said looking puzzled,your not making sence , Carl continued, Oh stop trying to make out you dont know what am talking about Carl I met her , met who Carl said as he started to realise what was unfolding,Your daughter Carl I met your daughter. Carl looked stunned what he said as his voice lowered in shock, now do you want to continue this at home farm infront of the kids or shall I go and stay at Zac and Lisa, Ok Carl said still in shock as he started the Car and drove in total silence.

you will come home wont you Carl said , I can explain, pitty you never thought the need to explain before I found out Chas replied, Am sorry I, Chas cut him off oh leave it Carl she replied I wouldnt know wether it was true or not any way, look at the bright side she continued you have time to go home and get your story straight before you come and tell me more rubbish, Chas walked in wishing well cottage not even turn to look back at Carl ,Carl sat in the car with his head leaning forward resting on the stirring wheel not knowing what to do, he wanted to tell the truth but he also needed to know about his daughter , tears welled up in his eyes as he started the Car, not knowing wether they were tears of saddness as the day had started taking its toll on him or happiness because his daughter had tracked him down , Struggling with his emotions Carl headed to home farm alone.

Carl sat in his Car out side Home farm for a while just thinking what he was going to tell Thomas and Anya ,If this girl came to the funeral it wont be long before she gets in touch again he thought should I tell them or should I leave it until she comes knocking, deep in a world of his own Carl never noticed Jimmy walking toward the car, and he was started when he knocked on the window,

Err you sitting out here all day Jimmy said as Carl wound the window down , and where is Chas didn't you find her, erm erm yeah Carl replied ,visibly still in shock, Whats up then are you coming in or what , and where is she any way, Erm she,s erm gone to Lisa,s she reckons the kids would appreciate time with me to them selves, Seems reasonable Jimmy replied, although Anya has been asking for her, I need a drink Carl said as he got out the Car, a stiff one at that he continued , Noticing Carl's actions Jimmy new there was more to what Carl was telling him, What is it Carl, Jimmy said as Carl headed to the drinks cabinet, ignoring him Carl poured a large whiskey and drank it straight off, nothing a few more of these wont solve Carl replied as he refilled his glass, Whats going on Matt said as he walked in the kitchen , oh he,s been arguing with Chas again Jimmy replied, as he grabbed the glass and the Bottle out of Carl's hands, is that it Matt said , In case you havn,t noticed there are two kids in there waiting for you, Matt continued, their mother has just died and you wont to sit out here getting bladdered over a stupid row with Chas, Am sorry I can't face them right now Carl replied as he tried to grab the bottle back of Jimmy, Get lost Jimmy said pushing Carl back onto a chair by the table, look am sure you two will patch things up you always do so why all the dramatics Matt remarked,I know Jimmy replied is the something your not telling us, Carl sat with his elbows on the table biting at his fingers, there is isn't the Matt said your hiding something, Just then Thomas walked into the kitchen, Can I have a drink he asked noticing the atmosphere between his dad and his two uncles, Yes son what do you want Carl said getting up to get Thomas a drink, Just water dad , Carl poured the water and Jimmy told him to go back in the parlor and sit with Scarlet and Anya, You coming in dad he asked as he was getting ushered out, yes son I'll be in soon , go on I'll follow in a bit Carl replied knowing Thomas had realised something was going on.
so come on then Matt said you going to tell us whats got you so wound up or not, Just leave it Matt Carl replied the Kids need me am going to them, Carl stood up to walk through to Thomas and Anya, oh no you don't, Jimmy said pushing Carl back down, Look Carl said it was a fight me and Chas had a fight thats it am OK now, so you come in here and try to polish of a bottle of whiskey over a silly little row with Chas Matt replied I don't think so, no me either Jimmy replied,Matt walked up to Carl ,forgive me for being a bit worried he said sarcastically, but you do tend to do the stupidest things when your in a tight situation you know like own up to murders, sleep with coppers, and god knows what else , Its not like that Carl replied, honest its not, Your going to tell us Matt said , am not a kid Matt Carl replied clearly still scared of his older brother, Matt leave him he will tell us when he is ready, Jimmy said , He wont hes telling us now Matt replied determent to get to the bottom of it, OK Carl said with tiers streaming down his face , but you have to promise not to interfere , all dad ever did was interfere Carl continued, and I don't know what to do but its got to be my decision Matt please, We wont interfere if we don't have to Jimmy said , Matt Carl said looking up, OK Matt replied as long as no one else gets hurt ,advice Carl said thats all OK Matt replied now tell us. She was there at the funeral, Erm who Matt said ,Charlotte Carl replied , she spoke to Chas, Jimmy and Matt looked at each other, so why all the secrecy Jimmy asked I thought you had been threatened again, Yeah me to Matt said bewildered, You know why Carl replied I never had a choose dad took all my choices away from me ,and Colleen he took hers to, I was scared you two would do the same as dad,who was she with Matt said still stunned, I don't know Carl replied Chas wont speak to me she wont let me explain, I need to tell her the truth but she wont listen , she probably thinks am the world worse scum bag, Hu and how is that not like she had a perfect passed is it Matt replied, Yeah but she did tell me didn't she where as I never told her, and what do I tell Charlotte ,when She comes knocking and then there's.....The three brothers were cut off by the sounds of Thomas once again Dad he shouted Anya's crying she wants mum, OK son am coming now he said as he left Matt and Jimmy starring at one another , Doesn't have it easy our Carl does he Jimmy said to Matt your telling me Matt replied,

After tucking Thomas and Anya safety in bed and watching them nod off to sleep,Carl started getting a overnight bag ready for Chas, Wondering weather she would let him explain or not .
Thinking about things through he knew she would understand, after all it was before they met , years before she's just angry I never told her , putting the holdall over his shoulder, Carl made his way down the stairs, as he walked past the living room he just headed straight out the door knowing Matt and Jimmy would stop him,because he had had a drink. I can phone from the car he thought as he got into the car, after all , he thought I never had much and it was hours ago,

Where the hell are you Matt shouted down the phone, I thought you were still upstairs, I wont be long Carl said just taking some stuff to Chas, you idiot Matt shouted back at him you are well over the limit, Just watch the kids Carl replied , I wont be long,and put the phone down. to Matt's annoyance. Am telling you Jimmy , he's an accident waiting to happen driving that car after all that drinking , It was hours ago Jimmy replied, Well he can tell the police that hey when he gets pulled Matt replied , and it wasn't that long ago either he had another just before he put the kids to bed.

Pulling up outside wishing well Carl noticed Chas pacing the path, Its OK he's here Chas said down the phone as Carl pulled up.Whats up Carl asked as he got out the car, What the hell are you playing at Carl, Chas asked , You wanted clothes Carl replied, Oh so you drive over here after a skin full and I get the blame Chas asked, and don't tell me you came for me , Chas continued you came for yourself, Am sorry Carl replied sheepishly, I just can't think of anything else since you told me, I know am being selfish, and leaving the kids tonight of all nights, I know they need me , but , can't you understand , you know what its like Chas to not see Aaron , I mean why do you think I did all that stuff for him, I knew it couldn't happen for me, I thought it would be many years away, At least I told you , No you never Chas, Carl replied I knew, you saw him all the time like I saw my kids, its different Carl said reaching out and grabbing her arm, please Chas let me explain, I have got to face Thomas and Anya with this Carl continued in a more softer tone, please I need your help.we need to get back to the kids Chas said avoiding the issue, I promised Jimmy I would drive you back, So are you coming home Carl replied, almost sounding like he was pleading, Chas looked at Carl she could see he was hurting, and there was things he needed to explain, but she was far to angry at the moment , she couldn't tell why she just felt let down , even though Carl hadn't lied to her Chas still felt he had deceived her , sorry Carl, Chas said as she took The keys out of Carl's hands, am getting my car and coming back I told you I need time to get my head round it.and I don't , Carl replied, you think its easy for me is that it ,Just get in the car Carl , Chas replied as Carl's voice was raising , no am not getting in the car, your asking me why I haven't said nothing and then wont listen when am trying to explain , Oh your loving this arnt you Carl continued, makes you look like the perfect mother, at least you give it a go is that what your thinking, Leave it Carl , Chas said butting in , no come on tell me , what is it your so mad about , because you struggled through it , while I was just the spotlit little boy who got what he wanted , clicked his fingers and his daddy sorted things out for him , that what you think, Chas looked at him with rolling eyes, Carl looked at Chas , who was stunned at his outburst, but was standing firmly with her arms folded in front of her, oh forget it Carl said , walking to the passenger door, stay where you like, Erm I never asked for all this you know Chas shouted back at him,I mean you've got more baggage than Heath-row, whatever Carl replied just take me home.

Chas drove back to Home Farm it was only a small ride back , and the car was completely silent all the way,don't forget the holdall you might need that ,Carl said sarcastically, grabbing the holdall and ignoring his comment Chas followed Carl into Home farm , making straight for the whiskey again and being followed by Matt and Jimmy who where screaming abuse at him running of in the car, And guess what am having another one Carl replied to the abuse, no your not Jimmy said, you've drank enough for one day, Oh didn't you know Chas butted in thats the answer to all his problems get bladdered, It works every time doesn't it sweetheart , Chas continued sarcastically, sure beets listening to you going on down my ear Carl replied, awwwwwwwww don't worry you don't have to listen to me all night, drink as much as you like , am just glad I wont be here to clean up the bathroom after you ,Whatever Carl said as Chas walked past him with her keys, she stopped at the door way and looked back, she did feel sorry for him, she knew whatever happened had been hard she could see, but somehow she still felt angry too, and felt unfair on Thomas and Anya to see tension at such a time, see you tomorrow Chas said as she went to leave , whatever Carl replied starring at the blank wall ahead of him. come on Carl jimmy said as Chas left the room, your getting worked up over nothing am I Jim am I , Chas hates me , Charlotte never came near me so she obviously doesn't like what she saw and when the kids find out. You have to snap out of this Matt said Chas will come round she always does, yeah Carl replied you hit the nail on the head there Matt she always does , sort of implies we don't get on very well doesn't it.

Look who I found on the in the hall, Carl turned to where Chas's voice was coming from, she's a bit upset Chas said to Carl in a soft voice as to not let Anya see the friction, Daddy I had an accident Anya said sobbing as Chas soothed her, Its OK sweetheart Carl said as he picked Anya up in his arm , again acting like everything was fine, Matt and Jimmy where almost pleased Anya had wet the bed as it make Carl put the bottle down, and automatically went into father mode without knowing it. Come on lets go and get you cleaned up Carl said, Daddy can I sleep with you and Chas tonight Anya asked still sobbing, looking up and catching Chas's eye not wanting to put her on the spot,Carl said you can sleep in my bed darling , but Chas has to go to see Belle today because she misses her, Chas stood and watched as Anya sobbed in Carl's arms , Daddy Belle's got her mummy, will you ask Chas to stay with me, at the door Chas stood starring at them she knew she had already formed a bond with Anya and they had already had a mother daughter type relationship, this was hard , Please ,Carl mouthed to Chas as he returned her glance, Chas stirred for a moment and Carl shook his head at her, just go he said as he walked with Anya to the bath room clearly annoyed that she would let Anya down when she wanted no-one else but her, am afraid its just me and you sweetheart Carl said, as he turned the taps on in the bath, Daddy why couldn't Chas bath me , I want Chas to bath me she is a Girl, I know , maybe next time hey Carl replied as he started to get Anya ready, Chas always baths me Anya sobbed she does it better than you, come on Anya , no she doesn't Carl said trying to make her feel better I splash more, and I can make big bubbles with the soap , thats for babies Anya replied see you don't know cuz am a girl, Carl was starting to get upset not knowing what to say next, when he heard Chas's voice, well I suppose you better let me come in then, Carl turned , yeah I suppose I had Carl said , smiling broadly at her , as she gave Anya a hug, come on you Chas said lets get you bathed,
you staying Carl said lightly so Anya couldn't hear, do I have a choice Chas replied looking at Anya, no I don't think you do Carl replied smiling. I want to know everything and I mean everything Chas said splashing Anya, every last detail I promise Carl replied.
